Abstract

ABSTRACTBackground: The label on the food packaging contains the content, type, nutrients information, expiration date and other important informations. Reading food labels will affect the consumer in selecting the food products in the market. This study aimed to determine the relationship between the level of knowledge and attitudes toward compliance with reading food labels in college students.Methods: This study was designed using a cross-sectional survey. The consecutive sampling method is used in selecting the subject. Research data was obtained by sending research questionnaires to 106 Diponegoro University students and conducted between May and June 2022. The research data was obtained using a questionnaire that included questions about demographic characteristics, level of knowledge about nutrition and food labels, attitudes towards food labels, and level of adherence to reading food labels. Data then analyzed by a bivariate correlation test using Spearman's rank correlation.Result: There is a significant correlation between knowledge about nutrition labels and attitudes towards food labels (p=0.019), as well as attitudes towards food labels and reading food labels compliance (p<0.001). There is no significant correlation between knowledge and compliance to reading food labels (p=0.26). Reading food labels compliance is influenced by attitudes, age of respondents, and expenditure on food.Conclusion: Reading food labels compliance relates with attitudes, respondent’s age, and expenditure on food. Knowledge about nutrition label relates with the attitudes towards food labels.Keywords: food label, knowledge, attitude, compliance ABSTRAKLatar belakang: Label pangan berisi tentang informasi mengenai komposisi, nilai zat gizi, jenis, tanggal kadaluarsa dan keterangan penting lainnya. Kebiasaan membaca label pangan akan mempengaruhi keputusan seseorang dalam membeli makanan yang akan dikonsumsi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis hubungan pengetahuan dan sikap terkait label pangan dengan kepatuhan mahasiswa Universitas Diponegoro dalam membaca label pangan.Metode: Desain penelitian cross sectional dengan jumlah subjek 106 mahasiswa Universitas Diponegoro, berlangsung pada bulan Mei-Juni 2022. Metode pengambilan subjek dengan consecutive sampling. Data penelitian diperoleh dengan menggunakan kuesioner yang meliputi pertanyaan mengenai karakteristik demografis, tingkat pengetahuan, sikap terhadap label pangan, dan kepatuhan membaca label pangan. Analisis bivariat dengan uji  korelasi spearman.Hasil: Terdapat hubungan antara pengetahuan tentang label pangan dengan sikap terhadap label pangan (p=0,019), serta sikap terhadap label pangan dan kepatuhan membaca label pangan (p<0.001). Tidak terdapat hubungan antara pengetahuan tentang label pangan dan kepatuhan membaca label pangan (p=0,26). Kepatuhan membaca label pangan dipengaruhi oleh sikap, usia responden, dan pengeluaran untuk pangan.Simpulan: Kepatuhan membaca label pangan berhubungan dengan sikap, usia responden, dan pengeluaran untuk pangan. Pengetahuan tentang label pangan berhubungan dengan sikap terhadap label pangan.Kata kunci : pengetahuan, sikap, kepatuhan, label pangan

Abstract

Household Double Burden Malnutrition dapat terjadi dalam satu rumah tangga. Salah satunya dikenal dengan fenomena Stunted Children and Overweight/Obese Mothers (SCOM). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis perbedaan karakteristik balita dan keluarga Normal Children Overweight/Obese Mothers (NCOM), Normal Children Normal Mothers (NCNM), Stunted Children Normal Mothers (SCNM) atau Stunted Children and Overweight/Obese Mothers (SCOM. Penelitian dilakukan dengan desain kasus-kontrol. Jumlah subjek penelitian adalah 72 anak usia 6-36 bulan di kota Semarang (36 subjek balita stunting dan 36 subjek balita normal). Subjek stunting dipilih secara sampel purposif dan subjek kontrol dipilih dengan mencocokkan usia dan jenis kelamin dengan subjek stunting. Data karakteristik diperoleh melalui wawancara menggunakan kuesioner, pengukuran antropometri anak meliputi pengukuran BB dan PB (anak usia ≤2 tahun) atau TB (anak usia >2 tahun), dan pengukuran antropometri ibu meliputi BB, TB, LP, dan LiLA. Data dianalisis secara kuantitatif meliputi analisis univariat dan bivariat (one way Anova/ Kruskall-Wallis test). Terdapat perbedaan hasil pengukuran antropometri balita pada kelompok SCOM, SCNM, NCOM, dan NCNM yang meliputi  indikator  BB aktual,  LiLA, z-score BB/PB atau BB/TB, z-score BB/U, dan z-score PB/U atau TB/U (p < 0,001). Terdapat perbedaan pendidikan ayah dan ibu antara kelompok balita stunting (SCOM dan SCNM) dengan kelompok balita normal (NCOM dan NCNM) (p = 0,009 dan p = 0,036). Terdapat perbedaan pengukuran antropometri aktual (BB, IMT, dan Lingkar pinggang), dan pengukuran antropometri selama kehamilan (BB sebelum hamil dan LiLA selama hamil) pada 4 kelompok (p < 0,05). Tidak terdapat perbedaan karakteristik lain pada balita, ayah, dan ibu pada 4 kelompok. Kelompok NCNM memiliki antropometri anak dan ibu yang lebih baik dibandingkan kelompok NCOM, SCOM, dan SCNM. Pendidikan orang tua pada kelompok SCOM cenderung lebih rendah dibandingkan kelompok lainnya.

Abstract

ASI Eksklusif yaitu  bayi yang  hanya diberi ASI saja tanpa diberi  tambahan cairan lain seperti susu formula, air, madu, dan tambahan makanan padat seperti pisang, pepaya, biskuit, nasi dan nasi tim selama 6 bulan. Cakupan pemberian ASI eksklusif di Kabupaten Sukabumi  mengalami penurunan dari tahun 2022 sebanyak 64,3% menjadi 61,2% pada tahun 2023.Tujuan penelitian untuk mengetahui faktor sosial budaya dalam  pemberian ASI eksklusif. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian desain analitik cross sectional. Teknik sampling dengan total sampling sebanyak 67 responden yang mempunyai bayi usia 0-6 bulan. Variabel bebas penelitian ini sosial budaya dalam mendukung asi ekslusif. Variabel terikat penelitian ini adalah pemberian ASI eksklusif. Hasil penelitian didapatkan proporsi pemberian ASI eksklusif dengan dukungan dari sosial budaya setempat adalah 39 ibu (58,2%). Faktor sosial budaya berhubungan dengan keberhasilan pemberian ASI Ekslusif dengan nilai p value 0,00 PR: 6,2 (2,1 -18,1). Terdapat hubungan yang bermakna bahwa faktor sosial budaya yang masih melekat kuat pada masyarakat dengan berbagai mitos dan kepercayaanya menjadi hal yang dapat mendukung atau bahkan menghambat pemberian ASI Ekslusif pada bayi.

Abstract

Intraindividual double-burden malnutrition, Wasted-Stunted (WaSt), frequently occurs in the same child simultaneously or at different moments throughout their life. This study aims to identify differences in the sociodemographic characteristics, incidence of infectious diseases, food security, and environmental conditions in the family of children with and without WaSt. The research employed a cross-sectional design conducted from April to October 2022 in Semarang City involving 133 subjects. The independent variables included toddler, mother, father, and family characteristics. The dependent variable was WaSt. The statistical tests used were the Kruskal-Wallis test with the Mann-Whitney U test for data that were not normally distributed and the one-way ANOVA test with the Bonferroni post hoc test for normally distributed data. This research shows that 19% of toddlers have WaSt. There were differences in the incidence of infectious diseases, home sanitation hygiene, father’s education, and food security between toddlers with normal nutritional status and the other two groups (stunted and WaSt) with a p-value <0.05. There were no differences in the incidence and types of infection between WaSt and stunted groups. Most family expenditures were allocated to food (70% in the WaSt and stunting groups and 60% in the normal nutritional status group). The government and related stakeholders need to pay more attention to families of children under five with limited access and facilities for hygiene and sanitation, low income, low parental education, and low food security to prevent an increase in the risk of WaSt.

Abstract

Background: Family characteristics, food security, expenditure, and diversity are indirectly associated with children's nutritional status. Objectives: This study aimed to examine the differences between food security, expenditure, and diversity among children under five with and without concurrent wasting and stunting (WaSt) in Semarang City. Methods: This study utilized an observational analytic approach with cross-sectional design. Subject selection using a consecutive sampling method obtained 72 subjects consisting of 18 subjects in each group of normal, stunted, wasted, and concurrently wasted and stunted (WaSt). Structured questionnaires collected data on the characteristics of fathers, mothers, and families. Interviews were conducted using the Household Food Insecurity Access Scale (HFIAS), which was obtained to measure food security among families. In contrast, the Individual Dietary Diversity Score (IDDS) was used to obtain food diversity. Differences were analyzed using one-way ANOVA and the Kruskal-Wallis test. A confidence level of 95% was utilized, and the results were significant, with a p-value<0.05 Results: There were significant differences in age, maternal nutrition knowledge, family income, food security, food expenditure, and food diversity between children under five with and without WaSt (p-value=0.010; 0.002; 0.026; 0.001; <0.001; 0.021). Conclusion: The WaSt group has a different age composition, maternal nutritional knowledge, family income, food security, food expenditure, and food diversity from other groups.

Abstract

Stunting adalah permasalahan gizi yang persentase angka kejadiannya masih tergolong tinggi. ASI eksklusif berkontribusi memenuhi kebutuhan asupan gizi bayi, yang berefek pada tumbuh kembang serta imunitas tubuh bayi. Balita yang mengalami stunting cenderung tidak menerima ASI eksklusif. Faktor yang mempengaruhi terlaksanya pemberian ASI eksklusif adalah paritas dan jenis persalinan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan paritas dan jenis persalinan dengan riwayat pemberian ASI eksklusif pada balita stunting. Penelitian ini termasuk penelitian cross sectional. Subjek penelitian adalah 50 ibu dengan balita stunting di wilayah Kota Semarang. Data yang diambil berupa riwayat pemberian ASI Eksklusif, paritas, jenis persalinan, usia ibu, pekerjaan, dan pendidikan. Analisis dilakukan dengan uji fisher exact untuk mengetahui hubungan antar variabel. Sejumlah 13 ibu (26,0%) tidak memberikan ASI eksklusif, 34 ibu (68,0%) seorang multipara, 20 ibu (40,0%) melahirkan secara caesar, 16 ibu (32,0%) usia berisiko, 36 ibu (72,0%) tidak bekerja, dan 14 ibu (28,0%) berpendidikan rendah. Terdapat hubungan paritas dengan pemberian ASI eksklusif (p=0,002), sedangkan jenis persalinan, usia, pendidikan, dan pekerjaan tidak berhubungan dengan pemberian ASI eksklusif. Terdapat hubungan yang signifikan antara paritas dan riwayat pemberian ASI eksklusif pada balita. Tidak ada hubungan antara jenis persalinan normal dan persalinan caesar dengan pemberian ASI eksklusif pada balita.

Abstract

Background: Stunting is a failure in growth and development among children, influenced by various factors such as birth condition and health services. After the Covid-19 pandemic in Indonesia, mothers’ perspectives on Posyandu have changed, and data entry in the e-PPGBM, an application for recording and reporting community-based nutrition,has increased, particularly in Semarang City.Objective: The study aimed to utilize e-PPGBM to analyze the relationship between Posyandu visits post-Covid-19 adaptation and low birth weight (LBW) with stunting among toddlers in Semarang City. Materials and Methods:This case-control study used secondary data from e-PPGBM in Semarang City. The case and control groups each included 1,153 gender-matched toddlers aged 12-59 months as of December 2022. The independent variables were Posyandu visits post-Covid-19 adaptation and low birth weight (LBW). The confounding variables included vitamin A supplementation, birth length, early initiation of breastfeeding (EIBF), birth order, and age. Analysis was conducted for bivariate with chi squares and multivariate with logistic regression.Results: Posyandu visits post-Covid-19 adaptation, LBW and EIBF were not associated with stunting. However, incomplete vitamin A supplementation (OR=0.66, 95% CI=0.54-0.81), short birth length (OR=2.39, 95% CI=1.74-3.27), third or higher birth order (OR=1.52, 95% CI=1.15-2.01), children aged 24-35 months (OR=1.85, 95% CI=1.36-2.53), and children aged 36-47 months (OR=1.58, 95% CI=1.16-2.16) were associated with stunting. Conclusion: Non-routine visits to Posyandu post-Covid-19 adaptation and LBW were higher among toddlers with stunting than normal toddlers. However, this relationship was not significantly related to stunting in Semarang City in December 2022.

Abstract

Background: Food consumption practices in preschool children play a crucial role in shaping their dietary habits in later years. Effective nutrition literacy strategies are essential to foster healthy and nutritious food consumption among preschoolers. Aims: To identify problems, interviews were conducted with members of the kindergarten community, including teachers, parents, and students, and observations of the school environment. Methods: Community service with problem-based learning activities were conducted at At Tiin Kindergarten in Semarang City from July to September 2024. The participants in this initiative included 52 preschool children attending Class A at At Tiin Kindergarten. Participants were divided into two groups: a control group (Class A1) receiving a single storytelling session with story books and an intervention group (Class A2) receiving repeated storytelling sessions with story books. Results: The identified issues among the preschoolers included overnutrition (WHZ 17%; WAZ 7%; and BAZ 12%), undernutrition (WHZ 4%; WAZ 10%; BAZ 7%), and stunting (HAZ 4%). Following the implementation of storytelling and storybook-based interventions, children's nutritional literacy improved, especially in the intervention group (16 children), who participated in repeated storytelling sessions, compared to the control group (13 children), who only received one session. Conclusion: Repeated storytelling sessions led to greater gains in balanced nutrition knowledge and improved understanding of the MyPlate guidelines in preschool children. Suggestion: To further enhance nutritional literacy and promote balanced nutrition practices among preschool children, it is recommended that periodic activities be implemented to address and mitigate the issue of malnutrition in this age group.

Abstract

Anak usia dini merupakan anak yang berusia 0-6 tahun. Pada masa tersebut merupakan masa keemasan atau yang disebut golden age, dimana pada masa tersebut terjadi pertumbuhan yang sangat pesat. Pemantauan perkembangan anak pada rentang usia tersebut sangatlah penting, sehingga anak akan tumbuh dengan baik sesuai dengan umurnya. Pemantauan status gizi anak dapat dilakukan salah satunya di sekolah. Para guru juga berperan dalam mengetahui status gizi para muridnya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui dan memantau status gizi anak usia dini. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kuantitatif dengan rancangan survei yang dilakukan di TK Islam Siti Fatimah, Semarang. Jumlah sampel pada penelitian ini adalah sebanyak 76 sampel. Pengambilan data dilakukan dengan pengukuran berat badan dan tinggi badan dan dianalisis menggunakan WHO Anthro dan WHO Anthro Plus. Berdasarkan hasil pengukuran diketahui bahwa rata-rata z-score BB/U tergolong gizi baik, TB/U tergolong normal, IMT/U tergolong baik dan BB/TB tergolong baik. Sehingga dapat disimpulkan bahwa status gizi anak di TK Islam Siti Fatimah tergolong baik.

Abstract

Food neophobia, defined as the avoidance of unfamiliar or familiar foods due to fear and negative perceptions, can significantly influence children’s dietary variety and nutritional adequacy. Previous studies have highlighted inconsistent findings on its relationship with protein intake, yet limited evidence exists in Indonesia. This study aimed to examine the association between food neophobia and animal protein consumption among toddlers aged 3–5 years in Semarang City, Indonesia. An observational analytic study with a cross-sectional design was conducted from May to July 2024. Data were collected through interviews with parents/caregivers using the Child Food Neophobia Scale (CFNS) and a Semi-Quantitative Food Frequency Questionnaire (SQ-FFQ). Statistical analysis applied Chi-Square tests and logistic regression at a 95% confidence level (p < 0.05). A total of 73 toddlers participated in the study. Findings revealed a significant correlation between food neophobia and frequency of dairy product consumption (p < 0.001), with neophobic children being 13.4 times more likely to consume dairy products than food-neutral children. However, no significant associations were observed with the adequacy or frequency of seafood, poultry, or red meat consumption. These findings indicate that while food neophobia may restrict dietary variety, the preference for dairy can serve as a compensatory nutrient source, particularly for calcium and protein, supporting growth and development. In the Islamic perspective, the inclusion of milk as a wholesome and pure food aligns with Quranic teachings, reinforcing family health practices that integrate both nutritional and spiritual well-being.
