Abstract

One of the most common cancers among women is cervical cancer. Various sociodemographic factors such as age, socioeconomic status, and sexual activity, as well as smoking, history of sexually transmitted infections, chronic trauma, and a family history of cervical cancer, all contribute to its development. The government’s effort to prevent cervical cancer is carried out through early detection using the Visual Inspection with Acetic Acid (VIA) test, which is currently implemented in all community health centers across Indonesia. However, most women do not undergo early detection because they are unaware of the program. Health cadres are expected to serve as the frontline in communities, being responsive and attentive to local health issues, while also encouraging community participation to achieve optimal health. Training serves as a capacity-building strategy for PKK cadres. The community service program was conducted by providing information and guidance to health cadres through lectures, question-and-answer sessions, and video screenings on cervical cancer early detection. This activity took place on Friday, July 1, 2022, with 35 participants. Evaluation was conducted using pre- and post-tests. The results showed a significant increase in knowledge about cervical cancer early detection before and after the training, with a p-value of 0.001. Keywords: IVA, Papsmear, community empowerment.

Abstract

Background: Indonesia had the third-highest number of new HIV/AIDS cases in the Asia-Pacific. Adolescents are more vulnerable, for almost half of all new cases worldwide. HIV/AIDS cases among 15–19-year-olds have increased in Indonesia for the last three years. Media is necessary to increase teenagers' awareness of and favorable attitudes about HIV/AIDS prevention. Objective: This study assessed the influence of the Ludo Healthy Smart Game on adolescents’ knowledge and positive attitudes toward HIV/AIDS prevention. Methods: The study was quasi-experimental with a non-equivalent control group design. Senior high school students in Yogyakarta were the study samples. There were 130 respondents divided into two groups. Questionnaires used for data collection have been subject to validity and reliability tests. Univariate and bivariate data analyses were used. Results: This study found that the Ludo Healthy Smart Game is effective in improving adolescents’ knowledge about HIV/AIDS (p=0.000). The Ludo Healthy Smart Game does not affect positive attitudes toward HIV/AIDS prevention (p<0.005). However, there was an improvement in adolescents’ attitudes following the treatment. Conclusion: The Ludo Healthy Smart Game can be used as health educational media to increase knowledge about HIV/AIDS among adolescents. The higher the adolescents’ knowledge about HIV/AIDS, the better their behavior toward HIV/AIDS prevention.

Abstract

Adolescence is a vulnerable period to reproductive health problems, especially regarding issues of sexuality. Healthy adolescent behavior is needed to achieve the SDGs targets by 2030. This study aimed to analyze personal factors such as attitudes, perceptions, and self-efficacy, as well as environmental factors like family, school, friends, community, and social media's role in adolescent reproductive health behavior and health promotion models. This quantitative analysis was conducted using the survey method with 326 respondents at 32 senior high schools, involving 159 male and 167 female adolescents, as samples taken through a multistage random sampling technique. This study used a questionnaire that was pre-tested for validity and reliability. Data were analyzed using path analysis. The results showed that adolescent perceptions, attitudes, self-efficacy, and the role of parents and social media positively influenced reproductive health behavior. The role of parents is the most influential variable among female adolescents. Social media directly affects male adolescents' behavior and indirectly influences female adolescents. This study recommends integrating social media campaigns with parental involvement to enhance reproductive health literacy. Moreover, health interventions should be sex-specific and consider different ways through which social media influence adolescents.

Abstract

Curing and eradicating Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)/Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) are to the core principles of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The incidence of HIV in the world remains high. Although midwives play a pivotal role in PMTCT implementation, the factors associated with midwives’ role in its implementation are not well understood. The aim of this study was to determine factors associated with midwives’ role in implementation of PMTCT. This study used a cross-sectional design. The subjects were 80 midwives at 14 primary health care in Yogyakarta City, Indonesia. The study was conducted from April to August 2017. Data were analyzed through univariate, bivariate with chi-square and Fisher’s exact test, multivariate with logistic regression. The results showed that 47.5% of midwives were in the poor category regarding implementation of PMTCT. Information availability through socialization (p-value = 0.047) and knowledge level (p-value = 0.016) were found to be related to PMTCT implementation. There was no relationship between age, length of work, education level, marital status, availability of information, midwife’s attitude, perception of the availability of facilities and institutional support with midwife behavior in PMTCT implementation. Multivariate analysis showed that level of knowledge was the most dominant factor affecting PMTCT implementation (OR:6.2; CI 95% = 1.8-21.4). We recommend that efforts should be made to continuously improve the knowledge of midwives on PMTCT implementation through peer support and training in order to achieve sustainable development goals.

Abstract

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) can hinder the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Posbindu involves the community's participation in conducting early detection activities and monitoring of NCD risk factors, carried out in an integrated, routine, and periodic manner. Integrated NCD risk factors (heart and vascular disease, diabetes, acute obstructive pulmonary disease, and cancer) as well as disorders due to accidents and acts of domestic violence are managed by the community through integrated guidance. These activities combine Posbindu activities to prevent NCDs, anemia, and Chronic Energy Deficiency (CHD) in women in accordance with the direction of Indonesia's Health Transformation. CHD is a condition in which a person's nutritional status is poor and they experience chronic malnutrition that causes health problems. Pregnant women with CHD are at risk of stunting babies. The aim is to empower the community through Posbindu and prevent NCDs, anemia, and CHD. Capillary blood tests using strips revealed that 16.7% of the participants suffered from anemia, 20% had high blood sugar, 23.3% had high cholesterol, and 36.6% had high uric acid levels. At the same time, upper arm circumference measurements revealed that 6.7% had CHD, and blood pressure measurements showed that 40% had hypertension, as a recommendation to integrate anemia and CHD screening into Posbindu activities.
