Abstract

Abstract

Early Initiating Breastfeeding after cesarean delivery can increase the risk of hypothermia in the baby due to the cold temperature of the operating room and the mother's lowered body temperature. To prevent hypothermia, a heating method during breastfeeding initiation is needed. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of using aluminum foil warm blankets in preventing hypothermia in newborns after caesarean during early breastfeeding initiation. The study used a True Experiment Pretest Posttest Control Group Design with consecutive sampling. The research groups were randomly allocated. A total of 50 infants were included, with 25 infants receiving aluminum foil warm blankets in the experimental group, and 25 infants receiving warm blankets only in the control group. The treatment was given for 30 minutes in the recovery room, and the infant's temperature was measured with an axillary digital thermometer. Data analysis using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test showed that the body temperature of infants increased from moderate hypothermia (35.75°C in the experimental group and 35.8°C in the control one) to mild hypothermia (36.34°C in the experimental group and 36.12°C in the control one). The Mann-Whitney U test showed a significant difference in the average body temperature of newborns between the experimental group and the control group, with a p-value<0.05. The study concluded that using aluminum foil warm blankets is better than using warm blankets alone in increasing the body temperature of babies born through cesarean section during early breastfeeding initiation in the recovery room.

Abstract

During labor, mothers frequently report having excruciating contractions that continue for hours or even days. An assistive gadget is required to expedite labor and aid in the baby's head drop. The Zelisken Ball, an invention of the research group, is a bolster-shaped ball used in basic exercises or physical care. The study aimed to determine whether using the Zelisken Ball could shorten the time pregnant mothers spend in the first stage of labor. Pregnant women's level of comfort and satisfaction while using it, along with its effects on each delivery stage, were highlighted. Using a control group, the study used a quantitative methodology and a quasi-experimental post-test-only design. Purposive sampling was employed to identify 50 postpartum patients for the sample. The Zelisken Ball was utilized by the intervention group in this study, while the Peanut Ball was used by the control group. Questionnaires were used to gather data, and SPSS software was implemented to perform an Independent Sample t-test to determine differences between the two groups. The mothers who utilized the Zelisken Ball advanced through the first stage of labor more quickly, according to the data, with a difference of 1.29 hours (77.4 minutes) between them and the control group (8.3 hours) who used the Peanut Ball. The results of the data analysis indicate that mothers who used the Zelisken Ball and those who utilized the Peanut Ball had significantly different first-stage labor durations (p-value of 0.026, <0.05). As a result, the Zelisken Ball shows great promise as a useful tool for accelerating the early stage of labor. The research has been modified to create Zelisken, which is two-thirds the size of a peanut ball and has an indentation of ½ on the ball. The outer material of Zelisken is made of Oscar fabric, and the inside is filled with foam, whereas the peanut ball is made of PVC and has an interior filled with air. Future research, however, needs to increase the sample size to include a wider range of respondents to strengthen the findings' generalizability.

Abstract

Background: Uncontrolled population growth leads to various issues, including social, economic, political, and security concerns. The solution to address this is through a family planning program. However, family planning programs are predominantly focused on women. Male participation in family planning is still very low, as indicated by the low coverage of male contraceptive use. Limited knowledge among men about family planning is one of the causes of low male participation in family planning. Purpose: To determine the relationship between knowledge level and family planning participation in men in the working area of Koba Central Health Center. Method: The research is a quantitative study with a case-control design. The population consists of all fertile-age male couples (reproductive age group) in the UPTD Koba Health Center area, Bangka Regency. The sample consists of 53 respondents for both the case and control groups, selected through accidental sampling. The case group comprises reproductive age group participants in family planning. The control group consists of reproductive age group individuals who are not family planning participants. Data collection was done using a questionnaire. Data analysis techniques used chi-square. Results: The knowledge level of family planning in the case group mostly falls under the good category (71.7%), while in the control group, it mostly falls under the poor category (50.9%). Male participation in family planning mostly involves condom use (92.5%), has been using contraception for ≤ 5 years (58.5%), and regular condom users (87.8%). There is a relationship between knowledge level of family planning and male participation in family planning, with a chi-square value of 4.772 and p-value of 0.029 (p < 0.05). Men with good knowledge of family planning are 2.631 times more likely to be family planning acceptors compared to men with poor knowledge of family planning. Conclusion: There is a relationship between knowledge level of family planning and male participation in family planning. Keywords: Knowledge, Family planning participation, Men.

Abstract

Background: Child sexual abuse (CSA) is a major global public health concern, affecting 18% of girls and 7.6% of boys worldwide. In Indonesia, over 14,000 cases were reported in 2022, underscoring the urgency of preventive action. Early sexuality education effectively reduces CSA risk; however, its implementation is limited by cultural taboos, parental discomfort, and inadequate communication skills. Mothers play a vital role in teaching body safety and personal boundaries, but related behaviors and influencing factors are underexplored in Indonesia. Objective: To examine mothers’ behaviors in providing sexuality education to young children and identify the influencing factors and barriers. Methods: A descriptive-analytical survey was conducted among 42 mothers of kindergarten students in Sawangan District, Magelang, from January to March 2025. Mothers’ behavior in delivering sexuality education served as the dependent variable, while independent variables included intention, self-efficacy, attitude, perception, communication barriers, and husband’s support. Data were collected using validated questionnaires and analyzed using descriptive statistics and path analysis. Results: Mothers mainly discussed topics related to family roles, boundaries, and hygiene, but rarely covered pregnancy or childbirth. The analysis showed that intention influenced behavior (β = 0.486, p = 0.000), and was predicted by self-efficacy (β = 0.714, p = 0.000). Self-efficacy was shaped by barriers, perception, and attitude, while husband’s support helped reduce barriers. Conclusion: Enhancing mothers’ self-efficacy, addressing cultural barriers, and involving fathers can strengthen the delivery of sexuality education. This study advances understanding of parental determinants in CSA prevention within Indonesia’s cultural context.

Abstract

Cases of sexual violence against young children in Indonesia show an upward trend every year. Children's lack of knowledge about the forms and ways to prevent sexual violence is one of the main factors that make them vulnerable to becoming victims. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of educational media in the form of an animated video entitled “My Body is Precious” and a picture book in increasing knowledge about the prevention of sexual violence among young children. The study employed a quantitative method with a quasi-experimental pretest-posttest design with a control group. The research was conducted at TK ABA Dukuh I and TK ABA Mlangi, with a sample size of 70 children aged 5–6 years divided into two groups (video and picture book). The instrument used was a picture questionnaire filled out through direct interviews by the researcher. Data analysis used the Paired T-test and Independent T-test. The results showed an increase in knowledge scores in both groups, but a higher increase was found in the group given animated video media, with an average posttest score of 72.83 compared to 62.97 in the picture book group. Statistical tests indicated a significant difference (p=0.000). The conclusion of this study is that animated video media is more effective than picture storybooks in improving knowledge about the prevention of sexual violence in young children, making it an attractive, easy-to-understand, and relevant educational option for children.
