Abstract

Segara Anakan Mangrove Forest in Cilacap is one of the most extensive mangrove forests on the southern coast of Java Island. This study aims to determine the level of herbivory and environmental conditions. The sampling technique used was purposive random sampling, which considered the different characteristics of the vegetation. Sonneratia caseolaris dominated Station 1, while Station 2 was more diverse, including Avicennia marina, Avicennia alba, Rhizophora mucronata, Sonneratia caseolaris, and Aegiceras corniculatum. Each station is spread over three points, each with five sampling plots, representing the distribution and zonal homogeneity of carrying capacity. The research was conducted in May, August, and November 2023, based on the different temporal seasons in Indonesia. The results showed biotic factors from herbivory activity and abiotic factors such as the hydrological cycle caused mangrove leaf damage. The class of leaf damage caused by herbivory at all observation stations was mainly in class I (<2.5%). The most leaf damage was found in old leaves, which is related to the optimal photosynthesis process producing carbohydrates as a food source for herbivores. Additionally, tannin content in the leaves plays a role in protection from excessive UV radiation during the dry season. This condition indicates that Segara Anakan mangrove forest is still in good condition. PCA analysis results show that mangrove leaf damage is closely related to the age of the leaves.

Abstract

Sungai Tambak bulusan termasuk di pesisir Demak. Potensi desa ini selain adanya tambak juga pantai. Khusus untuk wisata, desa ini memiliki brand "Istambul" atau Istana Tambak bulusan sebagai daya tarik wisatanya. Selain untuk wisata Muara sungai ini sering dijadikan jalur transportasi sehingga kondisi ini akan berdampak terhadap kualitas perairan yang dapat mengakibatkan terjadi pencemaran dan mempengaruhi makrozoobenthos. Tujuan penelitian adalah mengetahui tekstur sedimen, bahan organik dan kelimpahan hewan makrozoobenthos di muara sungai Bulusan Demak. Penelitian dilaksanakan pada bulan Desember menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif, dan Teknik sampling purposive sampling method, total pada  6 stasiun. Hasil uji tekstur sedimen yang diperoleh yaitu fraksi sand berkisar  antara -2,9 – 21,24 %, fraksi silt berkisar antara 43,096 – 52,136 % dan fraksi clay berkisar antara 36,0244– 58,406 %. Pada bahan organik rata rata dapat dikategori sedang kecuali pada stasiun 2 titik dua yaitu sebesar 17,06% dan pada stasiun 5 titik kesatu yaitu sebesar 31,27 % (kategori tinggi). Jenis Makrozoobenthos yang didapatkan selama penelitian terdiri dari dua filum yaitu Molusca dan Annelida. Filum Molusca terdiri dari dua kelas yaitu Kelas Gastropoda dan Bivalvia. Sementara itu filum Annelida ditemukan Kelas Polychaeta.

Abstract

Sungai Beringin merupakan salah satu sungai yang mengalir di Kota Semarang dan sering dijadikan sebagai jalur transportasi oleh warga sekitar untuk menangkap ikan dan  jalur ke arah laut serta ke daerah mangrove. Kondisi ini akan berdampak terhadap kualitas perairan yang dapat mengakibatkan suatu pencemaran dan mempengaruhi makrozoobenthos yang hidup di dasar perairan dan dapat dijadikan sebagai bioindikator karena habitat hidupnya relatif menetap. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui konsentrasi bahan organik dan tekstur sedimen di muara Sungai Beringin, Kota Semarang. Pengambilan sampel dilaksanakan pada tanggal bulan September tahun 2019 menggunakan teknik purposive random sampling dengan total 4 stasiun. Sampel yang diambil adalah substrat dasar perairan dan makrozoobenthos. Hasil penelitian menyatakan bahwa nilai fraksi sand berkisar antara 21,4 – 94,24 %, fraksi silt berkisar antara 0,12 – 1,2 % dan fraksi clay berkisar antara 5,56 – 71,88 %. Konsentrasi bahan organik berkisar antara 4,5 – 12,73 % dengan konsentrasi bahan organik tertinggi terdapat pada stasiun 2 dan konsentrasi bahan organik terendah pada stasiun 1. Hubungan anatara bahan organik dan tekstur sedimen memiliki korelasi yang kuat.

Abstract

ARTICLE HIGLIGHTS- Nickel mining activities significantly impacted the ecological integrity of the Pomalaa coastal area in Southeast Sulawesi, particularly in the mangrove ecosystem.- The exposure of overburden waste in the mangrove ecosystem has led to the loss of important gastropod species and a decline in population of surviving species- The low population of gastropod species in nickel mining impact areas indicates extensive environmental damage caused by these activities.ABSTRACTGastropod resources in the Dawi-Dawi mangrove ecosystem, Southeast Sulawesi are greatly influenced by the input of overburden waste (sediment) from nickel mining activities. This condition has been going on for the last 2 decades and has degraded the habitat and structure of the gastropod community. The upstream connectivity (the existing nickel mining area) and the Dawi-Dawi River estuary mean that the mangrove forest (estuary) in this area is continuously affected by (massive) overburden runoff. This research was carried out in June-August in the mangrove ecosystem of Dawi-Dawi Village, Southeast Sulawesi Province. This research aims to determine the existing condition of mangrove gastropods affected by overburden. This research began by conducting initial observations in the field, to identify mangrove ecosystems affected by overburden. research stations were determined using a purposive sampling technique (targeted) and sampling gastropods using a simple random sampling method. The ecological index of the mangrove gastropod community affected by overburden shows a tendency for a medium diversity index (H'=1.81), low species richness (R=1.42), high evenness (E=1.12), and no dominance of certain species (C=0.19). The gastropod species found are typical types that make up the mangrove fauna, namely Terebralia sulcata, Terebralia palustris, Faunus ater, Telescopium telescopium, Hebra nigra, and several taxa (genus) of climbing Littoraria snails (periwinkle) which are found in the roots, stems and leaves of mangroves. The abundance of gastropods obtained was also very low, namely around 0-12 Ind./m2. At some points (rarely) schools of small snails of the type T. sulcata (5-21 Ind./m2) are sometimes found. This research shows de facto that overburden waste eliminates (survival) or reduces the diversity and richness of gastropod species (ecological index) in the mangrove ecosystem of Dawi-Dawi.

Abstract

Western Segara Anakan Lagoon (WSAL) is a semi-enclosed lagoon located in the Cilacap, Central Java Province, Indonesia which has two outlets called pelawangan. West Pelawangan is an open channel from WSAL and the Indian Ocean, which has vast sediment input. It impacts the sediment deposits and delta formations in WSAL. This research aimed to determine the sediment characteristics deposited in the WSAL specifically in the delta formation area, and the mean size of sediments (D50), sorting, and skewness. The research used the survey method while data collected were sediment-bed, bathymetry, and satellite imagery Sentinel 2A with the ebb-tide condition. Sediment was analyzed by sieve and gravimetry and interpreted as a Ternary diagram, D50, sortation, skewness, and fraction percentage spreading map. Satellite imagery Sentinel 2A was searched by the ebb-tide condition. Shorelines and delta was extracted by the Normalized Different Water Index. Bathymetry built from depth points data 2018. The results of the Ternary diagrams analysis were the Citanduy River had a sand grain size, the Pelawangan Barat Waters (PBW) were dominated by sand and the lagoon was dominated by a fine grain size and silt. The result of sediment D50, sortation, and skewness in the Citanduy River and the PBW were dominated by sand, and the lagoon was dominated by fine sediment: silt, and clay grain size. The sediment fractions were sorted very well; skewness was dominated by the fine skewed (positive skewed). Abstract

The Karimunjawa National Park area has various coastal resources and ecosystems, such as mangrove forests, seagrass, and coral reefs, which provide a habitat for several vital organisms. The presence of natural and human factors in coastal areas causes environmental degradation. Changes in environmental conditions, increasing population, and land requirements in Karimunjawa National Park can have negative impacts if not appropriately managed. Therefore, coastal management strategies are needed to maintain sustainability and prevent the extinction of coastal resources. The research locations are Karimunjawa Island and Kemujan Island. This research aimed to develop a coastal management strategy based on changes in the shoreline of Karimunjawa Island and Kemujan Island. The SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) analysis model was used to identify coastal management strategies through the most effective priority scale. The research results showed that in 2008-2023, the average erosion on Karimunjawa Island was -11.41 m or -0.75 m/year, and accretion was 13.30 m or 0.87 m/year, while the average erosion on the island rainfall was -13.74 m or -0.90 m/year and accretion is 13.30 m or 1.07 m/year. Management strategies that can be implemented are (1) forming a board or committee; (2) conducting outreach and education activities; (3) identifying critical areas; (4) developing protection and utilization programs; (5) conducting research; (6) monitoring; (7) formulating policies.

Abstract

Mangrove litter is a critical component of the nutrient cycle, reflecting soil fertility and water quality within the mangrove ecosystem. This study investigates the dynamics of litter productivity in the Segara Anakan mangrove forest in Cilacap. The study area is divided into two locations with three points, with five litter traps installed at each point. Sonneratia caseolaris dominates vegetation characteristics at Station 1, while Station 2 has more diverse vegetation, including Sonneratia caseolaris, Aegiceras corniculatum, Acanthus ilicifolius, Derris trifoliata, Rhizophora mucronata, Avicennia alba, and Avicennia marina. Sampling follows seasonal changes in Indonesia, covering June 2023 to March 2024. The primary data for this study include aboveground litterfall production, estimated using litter traps, and the litter layer on the forest floor collected through soil transects. Secondary data comprise weather measurements, including air temperature, rainfall, wind speed, and humidity. Litterfall and litter layer were collected four times: June (dry season), September (transition from dry to rainy season), December (rainy season), and March (transition from rainy to dry season). The results indicate a total litter productivity of 18.99 tonnes ha-1 yr-1. The lowest litter production was observed in September, while the highest was in March. Leaf litter contributed the most, accounting for 71.49%, followed by twigs at 19.19%, flowers/fruits at 8.31%, stipules at 0.62%, and the lowest portion from other unidentified materials at 0.39%. Litter productivity shows a strong correlation (0.99) with rainfall. The main factors influencing litter productivity include environmental factors, primarily rainfall, and physiological factors, such as flowering and fruiting phenology.

Abstract

Limbah pada sedimen tambak bandeng berupa bahan organik, bersumber dari sisa pakan dan hasil metabolisme. Limbah ini mengandung protein yang tinggi, apabila tidak diproses dengan baik dapat mencemari lingkungan perairan. Aktinomisetes merupakan organisme tanah yang memiliki peran penting dalam proses dekomposisi bahan organik dengan bantuan enzim. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengisolasi aktinomisetes yang mampu menghasilkan enzim protease. Jenis penelitian yang dilakukan yaitu deskriptif eksploratif. Sampel sedimen diambil dari dasar tambak ikan bandeng Kecamatan Tugu, Semarang pada 2 titik outlet tambak dengan metode coring modifikasi. Proses isolasi dilakukan menggunakan media IM5, IM6, IM7 dan IM8 dengan metode pour plate, sedangkan purifikasi dengan media IM6 dan IM8 menggunakan metode streak plate. Isolat diskrining dengan media spesifik Skim Milk Agar untuk melihat zona hambat di sekitar koloni sehingga diketahui Indeks Proteolitik (IP). Sebanyak 11 dari 17 isolat aktinomisetes mampu memproduksi enzim protease, tiga isolat berasal dari media IM6 dan 8 isolat dari media IM8. Diperoleh tiga isolat dengan kemampuan paling baik dalam menghasilkan enzim protease dengan nilai IP diatas 1,5, yaitu isolat VTB 1.1, VTB 1.2 dan YTB 1.2. Penelitian lanjutan perlu dilakukan untuk membuktikan bahwa ketiga isolat tersebut mampu menjadi agen pendekomposisi kandungan protein berlebih pada sedimen tambak.

Abstract

Udang Putih dan Udang Tenger adalah hasil tangkapan udang yang tertangkap trap net di Sungai Lepasan Babalan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui komposisi dan distribusi ukuran hasil tangkapan udang dengan trap net, serta aspek biologi udang yang terdiri dari tingkat kematangan gonad dan hubungan panjang berat di Sungai Lepasan Babalan. Penelitian dilaksanakan di bulan April-Mei 2024. Metode pengambilan sampel yang digunakan adalah random sampling dan metode pengumpulan data dengan menggunakan data primer dan data sekunder. Hasil tangkapan utama trap net di Sungai Lepasan Babalan adalah udang putih (P. merguiensis) dan udang tenger (M. ensis). Modus ukuran panjang karapas udang putih berkisar 35,36 – 40,96 mm, sedangkan modus ukuran panjang karapas udang tenger berkisar 27,24 – 29,04 mm. Udang putih memiliki 44 ekor betina dengan tingkat kematangan gonad TKG I, sementara udang tenger memiliki 46 ekor betina dengan tingkat kematangan gonad TKG II. Hubungan antara panjang dan berat udang putih dan udang tenger berbeda-beda: udang putih jantan memiliki W = 0,0000501L3,253 dan betina dengan W = 0,0000405L3,319, sementara udang tenger jantan memiliki W = 0,000293L2,781 dan betina dengan W = 0,000155L2,975. Nilai CPUE tertinggi berada pada bulan Juli 2023 dengan jumlah 11,084 kg/trip.

Abstract

Sungai menjadi salah satu penyedia air yang bermanfaat bagi kehidupan manusia di berbagai kegiatan. Limbah hasil dari aktivitas manusia yang masuk ke perairan dapat mempengaruhi tingkat kesuburan perairan tersebut. Penelitian ini dilakukan di Waduk Jatibarang, Kecamatan Gunungpati, Kota Semarang. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah mengetahui tentang bagaimana status kesuburan di perairan Waduk Jatibarang, dan juga untuk mengetahui faktor-faktor apa saja yang mempengaruhi kondisi kualitas perairan di Waduk Jatibarang. Metode yang digunakan pada penelitian kali ini yaitu metode deskriptif kuantitatif dengan penentuan lokasi pengambilan sampel dengan menggunakan metode purposive sampling. Parameter yang digunakan pada penelitian kali ini meliputi parameter biologi, fisika, dan kimia. Parameter tersebut diambil secara langsung di lapangan kemudian dianalisis di laboratorium Pengelolaan Sumberdaya Ikan dan Lingkungan, hasilnya dihitung dengan rumus Giovanardi dan Vollenweider sehingga diperoleh nilai TRIX dari perairan di Waduk Jatibarang. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa nilai dari setiap parameter tidaklah terlalu rendah ataupun tinggi, yang mana dapat disimpulkan bahwa nilai parameter pada perairan Waduk Jatibarang masih tergolong baik untuk organisme perairan tumbuh dan berkembang. Nilai dari tiap parameter ini bervariasi, yang mana disebabkan oleh aktivitas manusia yang terdapat dari masing masing stasiun berbeda. Berdasarkan pengukuran dan perhitungan yang telah dilakukan diperoleh hasil bahwa nilai TRIX di perairan Waduk Jatibarang berkisar antara 2,4-2,78 yang berarti terdapat peningkatan kadar N dan P, namun kondisinya masih dalam batas toleransi dan masih tergolong baik untuk organisme perairan tumbuh dan berkembang.
