Abstract

Mangrove forests play an important role in protecting the coast from abrasion, providing habitat for marine life, and sequestering carbon. However, mangroves are threatened by land conversion, unsustainable activities, and lack of public awareness. This program aims to build a generation that cares about the environment and encourages active community involvement in coastal conservation. This approach is expected to create a generation that not only has environmental knowledge, but also has the care and skills to contribute to conservation efforts. The program began with field observations and interviews to collect data on the geographical conditions and understanding of the local community regarding mangrove ecosystems. The results of observations were used to design teaching media in the form of mangrove species identification books, books about mangrove ecosystems, animal association books in mangroves, and educational games about food chains in mangroves. Based on the results of the activities, this study shows that the use of teaching media in the form of mangrove food chain posters, pictures of mangrove ecosystem fauna, and books about mangrove species is effective in increasing children's knowledge about mangrove ecosystems.

Abstract

The development of the Mandalika Tourism Special Economic Zone (SEZ) is still running. Fluctuated economic and politic condition is in line with the changing national situation regarding policies of this SEZ. Being a new magnet of tourism, The Mandalika SEZ has demonstrated its role for coastal areas development in West Nusa Tenggara province. The sustainable development of this SEZ in the future are highly influenced by numerous action scenarios setting by stakeholders in multiple different layers. This research was aimed at analyzing a sustainable policy strategy for the Mandalika SEZ development in Central Lombok, Indonesia. It was conducted on October 2019 to March 2020. Data were gathered through in-depth interviews, Focus Group Discussions (FGD), and field observation. The MULTIPOL (a multicriteria-based policy analysis software) was used in seeking sundry possible implemented scenarios, policies, and actions. This research focused on establishing three scenarios, five policies, seven actions, and eleven evaluative criteria in analyzing the sustainability of the Mandalika Tourism SEZ. These numbers of scenarios, policies, actions, and criteria are established based on this research. The results of this research indicate the development of Mandalika Tourism SEZ currently can be conducted by integrating investment and local capacity empowerment (Blend-Based Scenario). The range values of this scenario starting from 12.2 (local-entrepreneurship policy) to 14.2 (man-made policy). This scenario accommodates policies both, developing local potency policies (local-entrepreneurship, and culture-tourism) and policies possibly opening investment (man-made, transportation-infrastructure, and adoption of information-communication-technology). The attention on balancing programs on either investment or empowering local capacity needs to be looked after by stakeholders in multi-level institutions. Abstract

Human Resource Management (HRM) plays a pivotal role in ensuring the sustainability and success of a company. As a discipline dedicated to managing human resources—recognized as the most valuable asset—HRM aims to achieve organizational goals and optimize performance. The irreplaceable role of humans in production, innovation, and achieving organizational objectives underscores the critical importance of HRM. Even with advanced technology and superior resources, organizational goals are difficult to achieve without active human involvement. HRM encompasses key aspects, including recruitment, selection, development, and performance management. Human resources contribute significantly through their talents, motivation, creativity, and innovation, all of which support organizational sustainability. The primary focus of HRM is to ensure the optimal and efficient utilization of human resources by creating a conducive work environment, providing continuous training and development opportunities, and maintaining harmonious work relationships. The strategic importance of HRM is further demonstrated by its capacity to address complex organizational challenges, such as formulating effective recruitment strategies, implementing training programs, and improving workforce quality. The HR department plays a critical role in designing policies and strategies to ensure a competent workforce that aligns with organizational needs. Consequently, HRM serves as an integral component of the overall management system within an organization. This study employs a literature review methodology, drawing on a wide range of sources, including books, national and international journal articles, and other supporting references. The objective is to provide a comprehensive understanding of the critical role HRM plays in supporting companies to achieve their objectives. HRM not only functions as an administrative manager but also as a key driver, prepared, willing, and capable of making significant contributions to organizational success.

Abstract

Abstract

Title: The Willingness of the Community to Accept the Loss of the Ecological Function of the Coastal Ecosystem in Wakatobi Regency The coastal protection program aims to prevent the impacts of rising sea levels, but it has resulted in negative effects on the functionality of the white sandy beach ecosystem. The community perceives that the program reduces access for ships and the availability of land in the coastal area. This study aims to assess the community’s willingness to accept the loss of the beach ecosystem’s functionality. A survey method was used to collect data and information for addressing the research problem. The sample consisted of 135 respondents from Wapia-pia Village, Waha Village, and Koroe Onowa Village in Wangi-Wangi District, Wakatobi Regency. The data analysis used a logit model with a cumulative logistic function approach, where the response variable was the coefficient of community answers, and the explanatory variable was the bid offered. The study found that the distribution of “yes” answers was smaller than the “no” answers from the community regarding the bid offered. The community’s WTA for the loss of the beach ecosystem’s functionality was calculated at Rp. 68,559 per individual per month, with the total WTA value reaching Rp. 1,092,825,457 per km² per year. The value of the beach ecosystem reflects the costs and benefits that should be compensated to ensure that the impacts of the coastal protection program are acceptable to the community. The feasibility study of the coastal protection program, as outlined in Government Regulation No. 06/2020 on Buildings and Installations at Sea and Minister of PUPR Regulation No. 07/2015 on Coastal Protection, must take into account the true value of the goods and services provided by the coastal ecosystem so that public policies align with the principles of sustainability and fairness.
