Abstract

Lokasi Pantai Zakat memiliki keragaman jenis tertinggi, yaitu sebanyak 17 jenis. Lokasi dengan keragaman ikan laut terendah adalah Pulau Baai yaitu hanya sebanyak delapan jenis.Province of Bengkulu with its 14.929,54 km2 sea waters and 525 km shoreline is expected to correlate with a high diversity of marine fish. Abstract

This study aims to analyze and compare the quality of dug well water and bore well water around the UNIB Kandang Limun campus. The descriptive method was used to analyze 60 samples, consisting of 30 water samples for each dug well and drilled well. The parameters measured were the degree of acidity (pH), total dissolved particles (TDS), salt content, and electrical conductivity (DHL). This study found that only 35% of the samples met the class I water quality standards. The samples consisted of 7 dug well samples and 14 drilled well samples. Most of the samples (53%) had an acidic pH below 6.5, while the other 12% did not meet the quality standards from TDS, DHL, or both. The pH value of dug well water was significantly lower (more acidic) than drilled well water (p < 0.0001, F1.58=27.28), but the TDS and DHL values in drilled well water were significantly higher (p < 0.01, F1.58=9.09 for TDS; p < 0.001, F1.58=15.89 for DHL). In conclusion, the water quality of drilled wells in the Kandang Limun Campus area is better than that of dug wells. Keywords: Lemonade Cage, Water Quality, Drilling Well, Excavation Well

Abstract

This study aims to determine the inhibition of T. cacao L. leaf extract on the growth of E. coli bacteria and the correlation between the concentration of T. cacao L. leaf extract and the formed E. coli inhibition zone. The method used is experimental post-test only control design using Completely Randomized Design (CRD). The inhibition zone of T. cacao L. leaves against E. coli was tested using the disc diffusion method with six treatments (concentration 25%, 50%, 75%, 100%, positive control and negative control) repeated five times. The results showed that the diameter of the inhibition zone of the leaf extract of T. cacao L. against E.coli was at intervals of 5-10 mm and was included in the category of moderate inhibition, but the results of Duncan's test showed that there was no significant difference between the inhibition zones formed at concentrations 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100%. In conclusion, the leaves of T. cacao L. were less effective in inhibiting the growth of E. Coli, but the leaf extract of T. cacao L. was positively correlated with the inhibition zone formed. Abstract

This research aims to determine the quality of Bengkenang River based on the physicochemical factors and macroinvertebrates community. The measuring of physicochemical parameters was carried out at three stations, namely Sukarami Village, Durian Seginim, and Padang Burnai with two periods for each station: April 2019 following the peak of the rainy season and September 2019 following the peak of the dry season. The physicochemical factors were analyzed descriptively, while macroinvertebrates community were analyzed as the indices of Shannon-Wiener diversity index (H’), Ephemeroptera-Plecoptera-Trichoptera (EPT), and Family Biotic (FBI). The temperature, dissolved oxygen, degree of acidity, and total dissolved solids of this river in each station were in the normal range. This study found 611 individuals of macroinvertebrates that were divided into 21 species (21 families; 4 phyla; 5 classes). The highest species abundance was Epeourus aculeatus, 22.42% of the total sample.  The H’ index from up- to downstteram were 1.79; 2.03; 1.80 respectively, indicating the Bengkenang River is slightly to moderately degraded. The total number of EPT individuals was 305, with mostly found at the downstream and dominated by Heptaginidae (Ephemeroptera). The FBI values were 3.81; 4.18; and 4.33 showed that the quality of the water is “very good”. Based on this physico-chemical factors, H’, EPT, and FBI data, it can be concluded the Bengkenang River is in a good quality.

Abstract

The sources of clean water is very important for everyone to support their life needs. However, Talang Tinggi Village, Seluma Regency has poor water supply conditions, indicated by the physical condition of the water which smells, the color is brown, and has sediment. This condition is getting worse because the source of water will be mixed with soil and mud. Talang Tinggi village does not have PDAM access yet, so the need for clean water only relies on natural water sources, swamp water and well water. This community service aims to overcome the problem of water resources in Talang Tinggi Village, Seluma Regency, Bengkulu Province by utilizing coconut fiber waste, as a filter media in the Slow Sand Filtration method. The results of the activity showed that there was a very significant improvement in water quality. The water that was cloudy and smelled becomes clearer and odorless. The value of acidity (pH) of the water sample also increased from 6.05-7.38 to 6.5-9.0. These results indicate that coconut fiber, which has been considered as waste, can be used to an effective filter for cleaning water.
