Abstract

This study aims to find out the students’ learning outcomes in the application of e-learning through the use of WhatsApp-assisted Edmodo in the concept of sound waves. In addition, students' responses to the treatments given were also observed for the sake of evaluation. This research used a quasi-experimental research design carried out at SMA Negeri 1 Gorontalo in the even semester of the 2019/2020 academic year. The subject of the research was class XI IPA 8 consisting of 20 students. Tests were administered to students to obtain data of the students’ learning outcomes. The data collected were then analyzed by using normality test and statistical t-test. Based on the research results, it is known that the t-value (5.53) is greater than the t-table (1.72), so H0 is accepted and H1 is rejected. It means that there is a significant positive effect of using whatsApp-assisted edmodo on learning outcomes in the concept of sound waves. It can be seen from the difference of mean score between the pretest and posttest scores of the experimental class. Therefore, it can be concluded that the increase in students’ learning outcomes on the concept of sound waves is in the strong effect category.

Abstract

Science learning is often regarded as difficult by students due to the many concepts that are abstract and not well understood. Therefore, a learning model is required that can enhance students' academic performance. One of them is the cooperative learning model known as Think-Pair-Share (TPS), which encourages students to think independently, engage in paired discussions, and share ideas within their groups. This research aims to determine the effect of the Think-Pair-Share type cooperative learning model on the learning outcomes of simple machines and efforts in SMP Negeri 1 Kwandang. This study is an experimental research, utilising a one-group pretest-posttest Design. The sampling technique employed in this research is Cluster Random Sampling. The sample in this study uses class VIIIC as the experimental class, grouped through a random lottery. Data for this research were collected using a testing technique, which included normality tests, hypothesis tests, and n-gain tests. The analysis results indicate that the calculated values for all sample classes are greater than the tabulated values; thus, the hypothesis (H1) is accepted. The N-gain value of 0.80 indicates an improvement in learning outcomes that falls under the high category. The application of the Think-Pair-Share model, specifically for the material on simple machines and business, has rarely been researched before. This model has been proven to help students connect abstract concepts with real-life situations, fostering active participation in the learning process. Thus, the TPS type cooperative learning model has a significant impact on improving students' learning outcomes. This research also provides practical benefits as a basis for teachers to implement the cooperative model of Think Pair Share in learning to create a more active, effective, and meaningful learning atmosphere.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of local wisdom-based Problem Based Learning (PBL) on junior high school students' learning outcomes in temperature and heat. The method used was a quantitative experiment with a one-group pretest–posttest design; the independent variable was PBL based on local wisdom integrated through Google Sites (e-modules, worksheets, videos, and contextual tasks), while the dependent variable was learning outcomes measured by achievement tests that had been validated by experts and declared to be highly valid. Data analysis included descriptive statistics, Shapiro–Wilk test for normality, Wilcoxon Signed-Rank test for paired comparisons, and N-Gain for effectiveness. The results show a significant increase: the class average increased from 45 to 84 and from 41 to 84; the posttest data was not normal, so Wilcoxon was used with results of Z = 4.111 and Z = 4.021 (p < 0.001), confirming a significant difference between the pretest and posttest. The average N-Gain = 0.69 (moderate category) with individual distribution in the moderate to high range, indicating that PBL based on local wisdom is effective in strengthening conceptual understanding and encouraging learning engagement. It is recommended to continuously integrate the local cultural context into science units through digital platforms, strengthen teacher training to facilitate PBL, and conduct further research with control groups, larger samples, and mixed approaches to examine conceptual changes and misconception reduction more comprehensively. It is recommended that local cultural contexts be continuously integrated into science units through digital platforms, that teacher training be strengthened to facilitate PBL, and that further research be conducted with control groups, larger samples, and mixed approaches to examine conceptual changes and misconception reduction more comprehensively.

Abstract

. Understanding science concepts among junior high school students is a crucial aspect because science requires the ability to reason, make connections, and apply scientific concepts in everyday life. However, low levels of conceptual understanding are still frequently found, partly due to the dominance of conventional teaching methods and the limited use of technology. Information and Communication Technology (ICT)–based multimedia is considered to have the potential to improve the quality of learning through visual, audio, and interactive presentations of material. This study aims to analyze the effect of implementing ICT-based multimedia in science learning on students’ conceptual understanding. The study employed a quasi-experimental method with a one-group pretest–posttest design. The research subjects were ninth-grade students of SMP Negeri 3 Gorontalo, consisting of two classes (Class IX C = 21 students; Class IX D = 22 students), selected using saturated sampling (N = 43). The research instrument was an essay test of conceptual understanding based on the indicators of interpreting, exemplifying, classifying, summarizing, inferring, comparing, and explaining. Data were analyzed using the Kolmogorov–Smirnov normality test, Levene’s homogeneity test, and hypothesis testing with a One-Sample t-Test at a significance level of 0.05. The results showed that the mean scores increased from pretest to posttest in both classes (57.54 to 88.10; 55.78 to 86.74). The One-Sample t-Test indicated that the posttest scores were significantly higher than the minimum mastery criterion (KKM) of 75 (Sig. = 0.000). These findings imply that ICT-based multimedia is effective as a science learning strategy to strengthen students’ conceptual understanding at the junior high school level.
