Abstract

The low learning outcomes of students in the SMAW Welding subject indicate the need to implement a learning model that can increase engagement, understanding, and practical skills in the vocational learning process. This study aims to improve the learning outcomes of eleventh-grade students in Welding, Fabrication, and Metal Engineering at SMK Negeri 1 Guguak through the implementation of the Project Based Learning model. This study used a Classroom Action Research (CAR) method conducted in three cycles, with the stages of planning, action implementation, observation, and reflection. The research subjects consisted of 26 students. Data were collected through knowledge tests, observation, and project assessment of welding skills. The results of the study show that the students’ mean learning outcomes increased from 59.80 in the pre-cycle to 70.95 in Cycle I, 76.47 in Cycle II, and 80.10 in Cycle III. Classical mastery also increased from 30.76% in the pre-cycle to 38.46% in Cycle I, 76.92% in Cycle II, and 88.46% in Cycle III. The conclusion of the study affirms that the implementation of the Project Based Learning model can improve students’ learning outcomes in SMAW Welding, both in terms of knowledge and practical skills. The implications of this study indicate that project-based learning can serve as an effective alternative vocational learning model to strengthen active engagement, conceptual understanding, and practical skills among vocational high school students.

Abstract

Although the teaching profession has a strategic role in ensuring the quality of vocational education, not all students in education study programs show a strong interest in pursuing a career as teachers. This study aims to analyze the effect of students’ perceptions of the teaching profession on interest in becoming teachers among students of the Mechanical Engineering Education Study Program at Universitas Negeri Padang. This study used a quantitative approach with an associative ex post facto design. The population as well as the research sample consisted of 72 students from the 2022 cohort, determined through a total sampling technique. Data were collected using a four-point Likert-scale questionnaire distributed through Google Forms. The research instrument consisted of 35 valid items with a Cronbach’s Alpha reliability coefficient of 0.949. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, normality testing, linearity testing, and simple linear regression with the assistance of SPSS. The results showed that students’ perceptions of the teaching profession were in the good category, with the largest percentage of 36%, while interest in becoming teachers was also in the good category, with the largest percentage of 44%. The regression analysis produced the equation Y = 10.348 + 0.448X, while the t-test obtained a value of 4.718 with a significance of 0.000 < 0.05. These findings indicate that students’ perceptions of the teaching profession have a positive and significant effect on interest in becoming teachers. The conclusion of this study affirms that the more positive students’ perceptions of the teaching profession, the higher their interest in choosing a teaching career. The implications of this study emphasize the importance of strengthening understanding, experience, and a positive image of the teaching profession in vocational education programs so that students’ interest in becoming teachers can develop more optimally.

Abstract

This study analyzed the pattern of student violations at the Vocational Engineering Academy with a total of 5,901 recorded cases. The purpose of the study was to identify the distribution, temporal trends, and factors influencing violations, as well as formulate policy recommendations. The method used is descriptive-quantitative analysis with secondary data, including frequency analysis, categorization, correlation, and visualization using Python (Pandas, NumPy, Matplotlib, Seaborn). The results showed the dominance of verbal violations (85.5%) compared to written violations (14.5%), with the most categories being Other (43.6%), Assignments/Reports (23.9%), and Delays (21.6%). Temporal analysis revealed a pattern of student adaptation: violations were high in the early semester (especially equipment breakdowns and Other categories), decreased in the middle semester, but delays increased in the final semester due to academic load. Other findings showed low violations of Rules of Conduct (6.6%) and Equipment Damage (4.3%), reflecting relatively controlled non-academic discipline. The implications of the study highlight the need for a multi-tiered coaching system, improved task management, digital presence, and revision of breach categorization for data accuracy. Recommendations include the development of an integrated task management platform, academic mentoring programs, time management workshops, and data-driven policy evaluations. This research provides an empirical basis for institutions to design effective violation prevention strategies, especially through preventive approaches and real-time monitoring systems.

Abstract

Penelitian ini berfokus pada pengembangan purwarupa mobil listrik empat penumpang berdaya 3000 Watt untuk aplikasi mobilitas terbatas seperti di lingkungan kampus. Permasalahan utama adalah kurangnya studi komprehensif yang mengintegrasikan perancangan, fabrikasi, dan pengujian sistem penggerak serta suspensi EV menggunakan sumber daya dan material lokal yang terjangkau. Tujuan penelitian adalah merancang, memfabrikasi, dan menguji kinerja prototipe tersebut guna membuktikan kelayakan teknologi dan desainnya. Metode yang diterapkan adalah metodologi rekayasa sistematis, meliputi: analisis kebutuhan, perancangan konseptual dengan evaluasi alternatif berbobot, fabrikasi chassis dan suspensi dari baja hollow galvanis melalui proses pemotongan, pengelasan, dan perakitan, serta integrasi sistem penggerak (motor BLDC 3000W, controller 3 fasa, diferensial). Pengujian kinerja dilakukan secara komprehensif terhadap fungsi kontrol, kemampuan traksi, stabilitas, kenyamanan, dan keamanan struktural. Hasil utama menunjukkan bahwa prototipe berhasil difabrikasi dan beroperasi dengan baik. Sistem penggerak bekerja optimal, sementara struktur chassis dan suspensi terbukti mampu menopang beban hingga 300 kg dengan stabil dan aman, sesuai hasil perhitungan analitis dan uji fisik. Sintesis gagasan utama menegaskan bahwa pendekatan design-for-manufacturing dengan pemanfaatan material lokal merupakan strategi yang efektif. Disimpulkan bahwa mobil listrik berdaya 3000 Watt dapat direalisasikan secara fungsional dengan teknologi sederhana, memberikan kontribusi nyata bagi pengembangan EV aplikatif sekaligus mengisi gap antara desain konseptual dan validasi eksperimental dalam literatur teknik otomotif nasional.

Abstract

The low learning outcomes of Grade X Welding Engineering students in the Fundamentals of Welding Engineering and Metal Fabrication course at SMK Negeri 1 Sumbar were influenced by a learning process that remained dominated by the lecture method, resulting in students being less active and motivated to participate in learning. This study aimed to describe the implementation of the guided inquiry learning model and analyze its effect on students’ learning outcomes. The study employed an experimental method with a one-group pretest–posttest design. The research sample included all 35 Grade X LAS students at SMK Negeri 1 Sumbar. Data were collected using a learning achievement test that had been assessed for validity, reliability, difficulty level, and discriminating power. The data were analyzed through normality and homogeneity tests, followed by hypothesis testing using a paired-samples t-test. The results showed that the mean posttest score was 83.86, which was higher than the mean pretest score of 61.20. The hypothesis test yielded a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05; therefore, H₀ was rejected and Hₐ was accepted at a significance level of α = 0.05. These findings indicated a significant difference in learning outcomes before and after the implementation of the guided inquiry learning model. Thus, the guided inquiry learning model had a significant effect on the learning outcomes of Grade X LAS students in the Fundamentals of Welding Engineering and Metal Fabrication course at SMK Negeri 1 Sumbar. The implementation of this model can serve as an alternative learning approach that promotes student activeness and improves learning achievement in vocational education.
