Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the long exposure to Cadmium (Cd) on the levels of calcium and phosphate bone white mice. This study uses a white rat bone exposed and unexposed Cd were 24 male rats were divided into 4 groups for 0, 2, 4 and 6 weeks. After the surgery and then measured levels of calcium and phosphate bone white mice. The results showed that there were significant differences in the levels of Ca between control and treatment groups. White rat bone Ca levels decreased respectively 118,067 mg/gram of bone; 87,267 mg/gram of bone; 39,667 mg/gram of bone and 13,067 mg/gram bone at weeks 0, 2, 4 and 6. The results of statistical tests performed by Kruskal-Wallis (p=0.000; p<0.05), it is stated that long exposure to Cd can significantly reduce levels of Ca in the bones of mice. This happens due to a decrease in absorption in the intestine Cd Cd compete with, so that the levels of Ca in bones decreased. In addition the research also showed levels of phosphate bone consecutive weeks 0, 2, 4 and 6 is equal to 335,583 mg/L; 258,583 mg/L; 251,833 mg/L and 208,667 mg/L. Results of statistical tests performed by Kruskal-Wallis (p=0.116; p>0.05), which means that exposure to Cd can not lower phosphate levels significantly due to the reciprocal relationship between Ca and P which resulted in secretion of parathyroid hormone so the bone does not release phosphate in the number of great. Thus concluded that exposure to heavy metals cadmium (Cd) for 6 weeks can reduce bone calcium white mice, but have not been able to reduce levels of phosphate bone white mice significantly.

Abstract

The problems in rebon shrimp processing business at household scale in Desa Muara Kintap  are in processing, utilization, and improvement in processing business which have not been maximized, and rebon shrimp quality of the business community at household scale because of inappropriate processing and handling, lack of interest, and cheap selling price. To overcome these problems, one possible way is to provide proper handling to the products of rebon shrimp either in producing or packaging as well as diversifying the processing of rebon shrimp. Therefore, this study aims to (1) determine benefits, eligibility, fluctuation and variation in price and (2) analyze marketing channels of rebon shrimp in Desa Muara Kintap. The significance of this research is that it can be used as an input or a reference in order to increase profits and development of business prospect of rebon shrimp processing at household scale in Desa Muara Kintap,Kecamatan Kintap,Kabupaten Tanah Laut, South Kalimantan Province; and it is also useful for those who want to learn more about the development of business prospect of rebon shrimp processing at household scale in Desa Muara Kintap,Kecamatan Kintap,Kabupaten Tanah Laut, or for those who are interested in the issues in this study. The results showed that the processing business of dried rebon shrimp in Muara Kintap was profitable to do because the total revenue was greater than the total cost, and based on the analysis of the eligibility on the season of NPV, Net BCR, and IRR were on top of the value of 13%, making it eligible to do business processing, and there was also a price fluctuation with an average selling price fluctuation of rebon shrimp in Desa Muara Kintap  between ‘season’ and ‘not season' the prices was 41.05%, and the variation of the fishing season prices ranged from Rp 19,000 to Rp 20,000, while during ‘not season’ the prices were between Rp 26,000 and Rp 30,000. This happened because of the difference in total costs incurred by the fishermen and rebon shrimp processors and the difference in rebon shrimp production volume, and there were two marketing channels of rebon shrimps in Desa Muara Kintap.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the effects of the concentration and duration of submersion in the extract of ‘belimbing wuluh’ on the decrease of the weight of formaldehyde residue, and also to analyze the concentration and optimum submersion length of time to produce the decrease of the highest weight of formaldehyde residue on the formaldehyde tuna fish. The study used an experimental method. The design used was a completely factorial randomized design (CRD), using two factors: duration of soaking factor (A) and the concentration factor (B) extracts of ‘blimbing wuluh’. Factor (A) was implemented for 15 minutes, 30 minutes, 45 minutes and 60 minutes, while factor (B) was done for 0% (control), 20%, 40%, 60%, 80% and 100%. Based on the experiments, the research showed that prolonged submersion gave significant effects on decreasing the residual formaldehyde, while the extract concentration ‘blimbing wuluh’ gave very significant effect in reducing the residual formaldehyde of tuna fish. For optimum results,  a concentration of 60% with prolonged submersion for 30 minutes  resulted in the reduction of residual formaldehyde percentage of 81.25%, the highest percentage compared with other treatments.

Abstract

The uncontrolled condition of settlements on the banks of the river city of Banjarmasin has made the settlements of the river banks as slums. Almost all river banks in each kelurahan are categorized as slums so that the actual river banks can be assets of the city of Banjarmasin, on the contrary, it is a bad face for the city. The program and arranging of structural slums in the river bank settlements in Kelurahan Sungai Bilu have indeed been carried out, but basically, they have not been successfully managed completely. Identification of the characteristics of riverbank slum settlements needs to be done to find out the aspects and variables that affect the slum of riverbank settlements to then formulate an appropriate arranging concept and can be implemented in riverbank slum settlements in the study location. Data analysis in identifying the characteristics of riverbank slum settlements is by presenting tabulated data on the results of a statistical questionnaire completed with mapping and field documentation and through narrative exposure. The theory triangulation analysis is used to formulate the concept of arranging suitable riverbank slum settlements and can be carried out at the research location. The results were obtained for the characteristics of slum settlements and the concept of arranging slum areas in the river banks in Kelurahan Sungai Bilu are arranging in aspects of the function and form of residential building mass, arranging environmental infrastructure, arranging environmental utility systems, arranging public and social facilities, and arranging on non-physical aspects.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the processes and factors behind the conversion of land into oil palm plantation and to analyze land-use changes that affects to environmental, economic, and socio-cultural changes in local community. This research was conducted in Murutuwu Village, East Barito Regency, Central Kalimantan. This study used a qualitative approach. The number of informants as a sampel was 33 people who were determined purposively. The criteria for informants were people who clearly knew the development of the Murutuwu Village area or local communites and/or rubber farmers who transferred land ownership to become oil palm plantation. The result showed that the process of land conversion in Murutuwu Village started from 2007-2008 which was marked by the presence of oil palm plantation investors and the issuance of plantation location permits in 2009 by the local government. The community-owned rubber plantations were then converted into plantations and the construction of an oil palm processing factory. Factors that caused land-use change were externally due to government intervention and intervention from the private sector (companies), and internally due to the high flow of land sales by the community.  The impact of land conversion into oil palm plantations has caused social changes which are characterized by: 1) changes in the environment, either directly (biophysical), or indirectly (demographic), 2) changes in the local community's economy including shifts and diversification of livelihoods as well as changes in income, and 3) there are socio-cultural changes in the local community including the loss of community identity as farmers, the occurrence of social competition, the erosion of community cultural values, and reduced mutual cooperation activities in the community.

Abstract

GedambaanBeachlocated on Jl. Berangas Km. 14 Kabupaten Kotabaru is one of coastal tourism objects in South Kalimantan.  Which is rich of coastal potential as tourism attraction. Based on experience and pre-observation on environment management activity in several coastal tourism object the result appeared differently, especialy in waste treatment becauase there were waste production rising in some particular spots that occurred in less good management system. Considering the importance of mangrove ecosystem existence in coastal area and inclination of polution cases in the area that mostly caused by the waste, it is needed to get describtion about waste treatment methode in tourism object that included in coastal resources use. Therefore the objective of this research is to know the factors that influence the waste management around the tourism object which are 1) Supporting factors, 2) Number of waste Production and waste volume, 3) Waste sort and waste compocition,      4) Waste reduction and waste treatment, 5) To know the environment condition around the tourism object by measuring the fly density. The observation (during May until July 2011) on environment management that related to waste management and environment observation by measuring the fly density in the area should that 1) Supporting factors consist of organization, personal, tools, and budged, 2) Waste production number and waste volume are depend on the number of visitors (128 – 342 individuals perday) and climated change.  The measurement of waste volume in sevent days stretched obout 1.2 – 3.2 m3 perday or 2.1 m3 perday in average, 3) Waste sort and waste compocition ; organic waste such as dry leafes and coconut shells in more frekuently found (8.7 m3) than non-organic waste such as plastics, allumunium cans, bottles and mixed waste from the sea (4.4 m3), 4) Waste reduction and waste treatment ; they were no effort to reduce waste and doing waste treatment.  The waste sorting were done only on coconut shell, and the last step would be burning down the waste. The conclusion of environment observation with fly as bioindacator are 1) There is relation beetwen fly density and the waste treatment.  Chi-square statistic test result should that X2 measurment (9.97) is higher than X2 table (3.84), thus rejected Ho. That stated that “There are no relation beetwen fly density and waste treatment”, 2) The fly density (3.4 – 5.2) interpreted as moderate density, 3) The fly density index ( 3.4 – 5.2 ≤ 6 ) is considered as low therefore the environment management is consider good.
