Abstract

The low critical thinking skills and student learning outcomes in science learning are still the main problems in schools. This study aims to determine the influence of the Project Based Learning (PjBL) learning model on the learning outcomes and critical thinking skills of grade VIII students on animal cell and plant cell materials at SMP Muhammadiyah 6 Samarinda. This study uses a quantitative method with a quasy experimental nonequivalent control group design. The sample totaled 50 students consisting of 25 students in the experimental class and 25 students in the control class. The research instrument is in the form of an essay test consisting of 10 questions. The results showed that the average post-test learning outcomes of the experimental class were higher (82.6) than the control class (59.2). In critical thinking skills, the experimental class obtained an average of 81.8 with the very good category, while the control class obtained 50.5 with the fair category. The results of the t-test showed a significant difference between the two classes (sig. < 0.05). Thus, the application of the Project Based Learning (PjBL) learning model can be recommended to improve critical thinking skills in science learning in junior high school.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the suitability of the concept of the immune system and the visual representation presented in the anime Cells at Work and the potential of the anime Cells at Work as an alternative learning medium. The data in this study are sentences that show the concept of the immune system and illustrations that show the visual representation contained in the anime Cells at Work. The data collection used is the observation method, the documentation method, and the literature study method. The data analysis technique used by the researcher is a qualitative descriptive technique. The results of the data analysis show that most of the concepts of the immune system are very much in line with current biological knowledge, season 1 of the anime shows a higher level of compatibility than season 2. Based on this, it is concluded that the Cells at Work anime can be used as an alternative learning medium, but it must still be accompanied by a teacher before and after the anime video is aired.

Abstract

Abstrak: Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk memahami efektivitas model Pembelajaran Berbasis Masalah (PBL) yang sedang diimplementasikan dengan Quizlet Live. Hal ini didasarkan pada kemampuan siswa untuk mengevaluasi materi secara kritis dan hasil pembelajaran mereka pada topik Makhluk Hidup. Metode yang digunakan adalah eksperimen komprehensif termasuk survei, pretest dan posttest, dan kelompok kontrol. Purposive sampling adalah metode yang digunakan untuk pengumpulan sampel, di mana kelompok VII B berfungsi sebagai kelompok eksperimen dan kelompok VII A sebagai kelompok kontrol. Analisis data dilakukan dengan menggunakan uji t sampel independen dengan tingkat signifikansi 5%. Semua analisis menunjukkan bahwa menggunakan Quizlet Live untuk menjalankan PBL secara signifikan meningkatkan hasil belajar siswa (0,001 < 0,005) dan keterampilan berpikir kritis (0,000 < 0,005). Hasilnya, teknologi PBL yang digunakan oleh Quizlet Live sangat efektif dalam meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir kritis dan hasil belajar siswa pada materi klasifikasi makhluk hidup.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh model problem based learning berbantuan website interaktif terhadap kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa kelas VIII di SMP Negeri 48 Samarinda pada mata pelajaran IPA. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kuantitatif dengan metode Quasi eksperimen menggunakan rancangan non-equivalent pretest-postest control group. Pengambilan sampel dilakukan menggunakan teknik purposive sampling dengan kelas VIII B sebagai kelas eksperimen dan kelas VIII C sebagai kelas kontrol. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan yaitu Independent Sample T-Test dengan taraf signifikansi 5%. Berdasarkan hasil analisis data menggunakan Independent Sample T-Test menunjukkan taraf signifikansi (Sig.) 0,001 0,05. Sehingga dapat disimpulkan bahwa terdapat pengaruh model problem based learning berbantuan website interaktif terhadap kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa kelas VIII di SMP Negeri 48 Samarinda pada mata pelajaran IPA.

Abstract

Critical thinking skills are a key component required in completing independent tasks (Sukenda, 2016). This study aims to analyze correlation between students' critical thinking skills and the quality of independent assignments in Histology courses. The research method used was a correlational quantitative approach involving 35 Biology Education study program students who were taking Histology courses. Data were collected through a histology context-based critical thinking test and independent assignment assessment using an analysis rubric. The correlation test results showed a positive correlation between critical thinking skills and the quality of students' independent assignments (r = 0.244, p < 0.05). This finding indicates that although there is a positive correlation coefficient between critical thinking ability and independent assignment quality, the significance value (Sig.) of 0.157 indicates that the correlation is not statistically significant. Based on this data, it can be concluded that there is no significant correlation between students' critical thinking skills and the quality of their independent assignments in the Histology course.

Abstract

The dangers of ultraviolet (UV) radiation exposure to skin health have triggered the need for safe natural sunscreen ingredients. This study aims to assess the efficacy of ethanol extract of genjer leaves (Limnocharis flava) as an active ingredient in sunscreen preparations, with an emphasis on the analysis of SPF values ​​and total flavonoid levels. The methodology used is an in vitro laboratory experiment. The extraction procedure was carried out through a maceration technique using 96% ethanol solvent (1:10 ratio). Flavonoid levels were measured using the AlCl3 colorimetric method with quercetin as the standard, while SPF calculations were carried out via a UV-Vis spectrophotometer in the range of 290–320 nm with varying levels of 200, 400, and 600 ppm. The research data revealed that the extract contained a total flavonoid content of 267.58 ± 1.21 mg QE/g with a yield of 18.2%. The study results confirmed a unidirectional correlation between the extract concentration level and skin protection power. The most optimal effectiveness was detected at a concentration of 600 ppm, which resulted in an SPF of 15.46 (ultra protection). Furthermore, the erythema transmission (%Te) value of 3.38% and pigmentation (%Tp) of 2.66% placed this extract in the sunscreen category. In conclusion, genjer leaves have very promising prospects as a natural sunscreen component due to their capability to absorb both UV-A and UV-B radiation simultaneously.
