Abstract

Kata Kunci: dismenorea primer, nyeri, remaja, scoping review, terapi musik Effects of Music Therapy on Primary Dysmenorrhea Pain in Adolescents: A Scoping Review ABSTRACTMenstrual pain or dysmenorrhea is a common condition experienced by women of reproductive age, including adolescents. Dysmenorrhea can interfere with daily activities, necessitating various non-pharmacological pain management strategies, such as music therapy. Objective: This study aims to explore the effects of music therapy on primary dysmenorrhea pain in adolescents. Methods: A literature search was conducted using databases such as ScienceDirect, ProQuest, Scopus, Cochrane, EBSCOhost, and the Google Scholar search engine. The inclusion criteria were English- and Indonesian-language articles published between 2019 and 2024, open-access articles, studies involving adolescent participants aged 13–20 years, and studies discussing the effects of music therapy on primary dysmenorrhea. The selected articles included randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and quasi-experimental studies. Articles were screened using Mendeley Desktop, critically appraised using The Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) framework, analyzed, and categorized based on the type of music therapy employed.  Results: Among the nine studies reviewed, Mozart therapy was the most frequently discussed intervention. However, other types of music therapy also demonstrated significant potential in reducing the intensity of primary dysmenorrhea pain in adolescents. Discussion: Music therapy consistently led to a reduction in menstrual pain. There is a variety of music therapy options available. Soft-toned music can stimulate alpha waves, inducing a sense of calmness and relaxation in listeners. Conclusion: Music therapy, whether used independently or in combination with other interventions, is effective in alleviating primary dysmenorrhea in adolescents. This effect is attributed to the stimulation of endorphin release, which helps reduce pain. These findings highlight the importance of considering music therapy as an effective non-pharmacological option for menstrual pain management in adolescents. Keywords: Primary dysmenorrhea, pain, adolescents, scoping review, music therapy

Abstract

Background: Psychological distress and uncertainty intolerance in cancer patients are linked to various physical consequences and negative psychological impacts, such as increased symptom severity, disruption in daily life, and reduced quality of life. These issues also affect family caregivers of cancer patients. This study aims to describe the psychological distress, uncertainty intolerance, and quality of life in cancer patients and their family caregivers. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study with 57 cancer patients and 57 caregivers at Dr. Sardjito Hospital, Yogyakarta-Indonesia, in July-August 2023. Psychological distress was measured by using the Kessler Scale (K-10), uncertainty using the Intolerance Uncertainty Scale (IUS-12), and quality of life using the EORTC QLQ-C30 and SF-36. Data were analyzed using Mann-Whitney and Kruskal-Wallis tests. Results: Significant differences were found in uncertainty intolerance between patients and caregivers (p=0.001) and caregivers’ marital status (p=0.045). Quality of life varied among patients based on age, gender, marital status, cancer type, and treatment (p0.05). Caregivers’ quality of life differed by age in physical and emotional roles (p≤0.005). Conclusions: There is a significant difference between the intolerance uncertainty of cancer patients and family caregivers. Meanwhile, the quality of life of cancer patients and the quality of life of family caregivers have differences in each scale and domain in several of their demographic characteristics. Longitudinal studies are needed to understand the trajectory of psychological distress and uncertainty intolerance over time.

Abstract

Hypertension, if not treated immediately, can cause various complications. One non-pharmacological therapy that can lower blood pressure is hydrotherapy (soaking the feet in warm water). Hydrotherapy (warm water foot soak) is a water therapy that can dilate blood vessels so that it can improve blood circulation and reduce blood pressure. The intervention was given 6 times in a row using warm water with a temperature of 38°C- 40°C, duration 15-20 minutes, water height 25 cm from the soles of the feet to above the ankles without using footwear, to maintain the stability of the water temperature using aluminum foil which was covered over the surface of the basin. The sample in this study were 30 hypertensive patients in the intervention group and 30 in the control group. Data analysis used an independent T-test .There was an effect of hydrotherapy (warm water foot soak) on blood pressure in the intervention group, the results were obtained (p = 0.001). Abstract

Abstract

Purpose: Stunting is a serious global issue characterized by children's height not being proportional to their age. The high prevalence of stunting is caused by factors such as chronic malnutrition, recurrent infections, and a lack of psychosocial stimulation during the first 1,000 days of life. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of integrated education in improving health cadres' knowledge and attitudes regarding stunting prevention in Panggungharjo Village. Methods: The method used was quantitative with a quasi-experimental design without a control group, involving 14 health cadres for toddlers as the sample. Data were analyzed using a paired t-test. Results: The results showed a significant improvement in knowledge between the pre-test and post-test (p < 0.05). However, the attitude assessment results indicated a p-value of 0.087, suggesting that the attitude improvement from the pre-test to the post-test was not statistically significant (p > 0.05). Conclusion: This study concludes that integrated education involving lectures, case scenarios, and peer group methods is efficacious in improving health cadres' knowledge about stunting prevention. However, it has not yet proven effective in enhancing cadres' attitudes. Therefore, additional strategies are needed to improve the attitudes of health cadres. The implementation of similar educational methods in other communities is expected to contribute to a sustainable reduction in stunting prevalence.

Abstract

The high prevalence of chronic energy deficiency (CED) among adolescent girls may be due to a lack of knowledge and unhealthy dietary practices. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of the SICARE application in improving healthy dietary knowledge among adolescent girls. This study employed a quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent control group comprising 59 participants in each group. The study was conducted at a high school. The researchers used a knowledge questionnaire and the Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ) as measurement tools. The results showed a significant improvement in CED knowledge in the intervention group after using the application, from 12.68 ± 2.35 to 20.85 ± 1.37 (p < 0.05). The participants’ eating habits also improved over the two weeks, with increased consumption of rice as a staple food, eggs as the primary source of animal protein, and tempeh and tofu as plant protein sources. Water spinach and papaya were the most frequently consumed vegetables and fruits. The findings suggest that the SICARE app is an effective educational tool for increasing knowledge about CED and promoting healthier eating habits among adolescent girls. Thus, the app can be used to address the high prevalence of CED in this population.

Abstract

Low birthweight (LBW) is one of main causes of infant mortality in the world. World Health Organization in 2003 had recommended breastfeeding for LBW handling. However, LBW mothers face many difficulties during early postpartum period. Moreover, breastfeeding in Indonesia is also influenced by social and cultural belief, so it may influence mothers’ decision whether remain breastfeeding or not in early postpartum period. This study aimed to explore the meaning of the experience of mothers to remain breastfeeding their LBW infants. This qualitative study was conducted using phenomenological approach. Seven participants were mothers ever breastfeeding their LBW infants. Data were collected through semi-structured in-depth interview, observation and secondary data on May – June 2015. Data analysis used Colaizzi method (1978). There were four themes found namely introduction of breastfeeding since early for LBW infants, granting of early complementary feeding as an alternative to overcome breastfeeding problem, cultural belief and social environment influencing support for breastfeeding mothers as well as accepting breastfeeding as the very nature of woman. Breastfeeding LBW infants has higher difficulty le-vel, also any tradition family believe and social environment really affect support given to mothers in breastfeeding.

Abstract

Background: Nutritional status during pregnancy is one of the critical factors to determine maternal and fetal development status, which impacts birth weight, perinatal mortality, and infant growth. The Special Region of Yogyakarta government sets a target for reducing the number of maternal and child mortality as a health priority. Monitoring pregnant women's health regularly is crucial as preventive measures and promotive approaches for mothers and fetuses. Primagravida, a web-based system, was developed to assist pregnant women in rural areas in monitoring their health, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study evaluate the usability and users' satisfaction in using Primagravida. Methods: This was quantitative descriptive research with a cross-sectional design. We conducted the study in the Kalibawang Primary Health Center (PHC) service area between June - October 2021. One hundred ten pregnant women and five midwives participated in this study. Pregnant women were registered and monitored their pregnancy through a web-based service that was integrated with maternal and child health care delivered by the PHC. Pregnant women reported their health status through the Primagravida system periodically and received feedback from the PHC’s midwives. To evaluate users’ usability, the System Usability Scale (SUS), which was developed by Brooke (1996) was utilized while the researcher developed the users’ satisfaction questionnaire to measure satisfaction. Results and Discussion: Results indicated that most of the participants were satisfied with the benefits, information relevance, content adequacy and clarity, platform availability, and up-to-the-minute curated knowledge provided by the system. The utilization of this system reduced the number of visits to PHC since health monitoring could be assessed online. Regarding system usability, respondents reported a score of 70, and the average score of respondents is 66. Conclusion: Primagravida system is well adopted by pregnant women in Kalibawang District, Kulon Progo, to monitor their health and fetal status.
