Abstract

Panti Asuhan Muhammadiyah Malasom was founded as a form of awareness among community organizations and religious figures of the importance of education for the progress of the Papuan people. With all its limitations and with this awareness, the Muhammadiyah Malasom Orphanage has a vital role in the sustainability of education and the future, especially in skills education that are not obtained in formal education. Applied learning includes leadership, Muhammadiyah, and classical books. The most basic problem at the Muhammadiyah Malasom Orphanage is that the presence of this non-formal educational institution is not environmentally friendly. This can be seen from the students who throw rubbish carelessly in the orphanage area. The condition of the land at the Panti Asuhan Muhammadiyah Malasom is barren land so farming activities cannot be carried out. Even though farming is a basic skill when the students return to their hometowns. Apart from that, there is no waste management so rubbish is scattered around. Apart from that, the problem of difficulty in finding donors is also a serious problem that must be immediately found a solution. Because up to now, donors are the key to the organization's operational activities. The lack of awareness is what makes the Panti Asuhan Muhammadiyah Malasom not environmentally friendly. Even though partners have great potential in carrying out environmental conservation movements that have a positive impact on Islamic boarding schools and Papuan society in general. Community service aims to improve partners' skills in the curriculum aspect of strengthening character education and eco-Islamic boarding school practices. The Environmental Conservation Based Eco-Islamic Boarding School Implementation program at Panti Asuhan Muhammadiyah Malasom, is divided into two main activities, namely strengthening character education and the environmental care movement (with three movements: reforestation, soil enrichment, and waste management). The results of this dedication are: The result of this service is that the students' environment-loving character will be formed when the students gain direct experience (habituation practice) at the Orphanage. This means that effective learning is the practice of preserving the environment in the orphanage in addition to learning in the classroom.

Abstract

Abstract

The issue of clean water availability in coastal areas remains a serious challenge, particularly due to increasing seawater intrusion, which causes groundwater to become brackish and unfit for consumption. This condition is also experienced by the community in Warmon Kokoda Village, Sorong Regency, who have long depended on well water sources with high salinity levels. This community service activity aimed to introduce and train residents in the use of single-roof solar desalination technology with a solar-powered cooling fan as an energy-efficient and environmentally friendly solution for brackish water purification. The approach used was Participatory Action Research (PAR), in which the community was actively involved in socialization, learning, and hands-on practice in the manufacture and operation of the device. The results of this activity showed an increase in community knowledge about the working principles and benefits of solar desalination technology, as evidenced by the community's ability to conduct trials on the device. Technical tests showed that the device was able to reduce the salinity of brackish water from 5% to 0%, producing water suitable for consumption according to WHO standards, with good thermal efficiency for the household category. This activity had a significant impact in providing access to safe and potable water for the local community, as well as increasing independence in water resource management.

Abstract

This study explores the role of primary school teachers in integrating sustainability values into education within an ecologically vulnerable context. It examines how teachers in Sorong City, Southwest Papua, act as agents of change through eco-pedagogical practices, despite facing challenges such as limited training and systemic support. Employing a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through observations, interviews, and document analysis. Findings reveal a gap between teachers' strong ecological awareness rooted in local experiences and their limited understanding of formal sustainability frameworks like the SDGs. While sporadic efforts to integrate environmental themes exist, a systematic, curriculum-aligned approach is lacking. The study highlights the potential for participatory eco-pedagogy to engage students and emphasizes the need for contextualized teacher training and curriculum reform. This research contributes a contextualized pedagogical framework for integrating sustainability values in similar settings globally, advocating for a shift from individual initiatives to structured, reflective, and sustainable educational strategies.
