Abstract

Introduction: The main contents of mangosteen (Garcinia mangostana Linn.) is xanthone with antibacterial activity. Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans (A. actinomycetemcomitans) was a gram-negative, facultative anaerobic bacillus that causes periodontal diseases such as localised aggressive periodontitis (LAP). Mangosteen rind extract could inhibit the growth of Porphyromonas gingivalis and A. actinomycetemcomitans. This study was aimed to determine the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) of mangosteen rind extract against A. actinomycetemcomitans. Methods: This study was an experimental and in-vitro study of antimicrobial properties of mangosteen (Garcinia mangostana Linn.).The extract of mangosteen was made by the maceration method using 70% ethanol solvent. A. actinomycetemcomitans (ATCC 43718) obtained from Laboratorium of Microbiology Airlangga University Surabaya. This study used a microdilution method and analysed using the Enzyme Linked Immune Sorbent Assay (ELISA). The determination of the MIC was measured using the formula for cell inhibition percentage. Three concentrations higher than the MIC standard were cultured on the Mueller Hinton agar. The lowest concentration on agar which was not found any growth of the bacterial colonies was determined as the MBC. Results: The results of this study indicated that the MIC and MBC of mangosteen rind extract against A. actinomycetemcomitans were 195.3 ppm and 1562.5 ppm, respectively. Conclusion: Mangosteen rind extract can inhibit and bactericide the growth of A. actinomycetemcomitans.

Abstract

Goroho bananas and tanduk bananas are local bananas found in all districts/cities in North Maluku. These two types of bananas are usually consumed in North Maluku in the form of traditional foods. In order to be processed into other derivative products and to have a longer shelf life, the product innovation that can be done is to process them into banana flour. Banana flour can also be an alternative source of carbohydrates and has the potential to replace wheat flour which is still imported. So that banana flour is expected to be an alternative food ingredient. The purpose of this study was to determine the physicochemical characteristics of goroho banana flour and tanduk banana flour. In addition, this study aims to determine the potential of goroho banana flour and tanduk banana flour as alternative food ingredients. The research design used was a non-factorial Completely Randomized Design, with the treatment factor being the type of banana (goroho banana and tanduk banana). The results of the study showed that the physicochemical characteristics of goroho banana flour were 30% yield, color L 84.48, a* 1.18, b* 17.78, carbohydrate 82.91%, protein content 3.51%, total fat content 1.41%, water content 9.69%, ash content 2.50%, total energy 358.31 Kcal/100g, energy from fat 12.65 Kcal/100g and pH 5.43. The physicochemical characteristics of tanduk banana flour are yield 31%, color L 82.36, a* 2.85, b* 18.36, carbohydrate 83.69%, protein content 2.65%, total fat content 1.54%, water content 10.19%, ash content 1.94%, total energy 359.2 Kcal/100g, energy from fat 13.86 Kcal/100g and pH 6.38. The physicochemical characteristics of goroho and tanduk banana flour from North Maluku give both the potential as alternative food ingredients. Abstract

Kata kunci: pemeriksaan kesehatan; Pulau Hiri; stunting AbstractStunting is still a public health problem in Indonesia, including in North Maluku, which is 26.1%, which is above the national average prevalence in 2022. However, all elements of society have a shared concern to overcome stunting. Routine health checks on mothers, infants, toddlers and children detect health problems including stunting and other chronic diseases. This community service is carried out by holding social services (baksos) which aim to increase public knowledge about stunting and increase awareness of their own health. Community service activities were carried out in Mado Village, Pulau Hiri District, Ternate City by providing health check services for non-communicable diseases, namely measuring blood pressure, uric acid, blood sugar and providing health education about stunting to the Mado Village community, Pulau Hiri. This activity was attended by 46 mothers who had toddlers, with an average age of 19-50 years as many as 97.8%. The stages during the activity were planning and preparing proposals, observation and location surveys, socialization and preparation of activities. During the activity, participants filled out questionnaires, listened to counseling on stunting, and had blood pressure, blood sugar, and uric acid checked with consultation on the results of the examination. The survey results showed that the level of knowledge of respondents was good, as many as 33 (71.7%) respondents, and those who lacked knowledge about stunting were 13 respondents (28.3%). For the results of blood pressure examinations, 38.8% of respondents had high blood pressure, normal blood sugar as many as 88.2%, high uric acid as many as 84.6% of respondents. The importance of social services in the community to detect diseases early, increase community awareness of their health. As well as providing access to consultations and health checks as needed. Keywords: health check; Hiri Island; stunting

Abstract

Background: Patients with mental diseases with low self-concept are more likely to engage in maladaptive behavior, isolate themselves, and relapse. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of deep breathing exercise and community mental health nursing (CMHN) training in improving the self-concept quality of patients with mental disorders. Methods: The study used a quantitative quasi-experimental approach with a non-equivalent control group. A total of 235 individuals were randomly selected from ten primary health facilities in Bantul, Yogyakarta, including 120 in the intervention group (combination of deep breathing exercises and CMHN training) and 115 in the control group (self-directed study only). Eligible participants were cooperative patients with mental disorders in the maintenance or health promotion phase, while those unwilling to follow the training protocol were excluded. Self-concept served as the dependent variable, measured using a self-concept questionnaire. Data were analyzed using paired t-tests in SPSS, with statistical significance set at p < 0.05. Results: The intervention group showed a significant increase in mean self-concept scores, from 105.2 pretest to 110.0 posttest (p = 0.004), while no significant change was observed in the control group (p = 0.092). Conclusion: Integrating deep breathing exercises with CMHN training improves the self-concept of individuals with mental illnesses during the maintenance and health promotion stages.
