Abstract

AbstractThis study aims at knowing: 1) the level of young generations’ knowledge about the use oftraditional medical plantation for curing children’s diseases; and 2) the implication of theaims 1 above to Eco linguistics. This study took place in the province of Bali, consisting of8 regencies and one city government. The total samples of the study were 225 younggenerations’ and 45 spiritual people. The samples of the study were determined by usingpurposive quota sampling. The data related to the young generations’ knowledge werecollected through test. The data as to the implication of aims 1 were gathered by means ofinterview. The result of the study shows that: 1) the Balinese young generations’ knowledgeabout the use of traditional medical plantation is 48.4% (not enough); and 2) the younggenerations having better knowledge and will be more familiar with the terms of medicalplantation, such as the young generations in Karangasem with the percentage of 73.12%(good), the young generations in Klungkung 70.50% (good), and Bangli 71.36% (good).They are a bit more familiar with medical plantation terms. Referring to the result of thestudy, it is suggested to socialize about the usefulness of medical plantation, the improvementof the skill in producing medicine from medical plantation, and synergizing the relatedcomponents to lexical maintenance and environment.

Abstract

This study aims at investigating: (1) adolescent lexical knowledge about traditional medicinal plants from ecolinguistic perspective and (2) adolescent attitude toward traditional medical plants and its effect on ecology and ecolinguistics as an effort at preserving environment and lexis of medicinal plants. This study was conducted to 125 adolescents in Buleleng regency in 25 villages in 9 districts. The data were obtained through interview, observation, and lexical competence test. The data were processed descriptively. The result shows that the adolescent lexical knowledge about traditional medicinal plants is as follows. 28 rural adolescents (37.33% ) has an adequate knowledge , 47 (62.66%) an inadequate knowledge and 9 urban adolescents (18%) an adequate knowledge, 38 (76%) an inadequate knowledge and 3 ( 6%) a low level of knowledge. Ecolinguistically, this has an effect on reduction of lexical forms on the part of the adolescents. Fourty percent of the adolescent attitude showed disagreement with the assumption of backwardness and low opinion about the users of the traditional medicinal plants this is a positive attitude of the adolescents and is a good asset in the effort at developing faithful attitude, pride and awareness of the use of medicinal plants to preserve the ecology and ecolinguistics.

Abstract

This study aims at knowing: 1) the skill of the young generation in cultivating traditional medical plantation for children’s disease, 2) the implication of the first goal towards ecolinguistics. The setting of the study was in Bali province, consisting of 8 regencies and one city government, with the total of samples of young generation 360 and the sample of healers 45 individuals. The samples were determined by using purposive quota sampling technique. Thedata about the skill were collected observation, and the data about the implication the first goal were collected through interview. The result of the study shows that: 1) the skill of the young generation in cultivating traditionalmedical plantation was totally 58.5%, and partially there were young generations who could cultivate traditional medical plantation, such as Karangasem 73.12 (good), Klungkung 70.50 (good), and Bangli 71.36 (good), 2) the implication of   the first goal to eco-linguistics is that the young generations having better ability in cultivating medical plantation are more familiar with the medical plantation terms, though the physical representation of the plant is not definitelyknown. In this case, the skill in cultivating traditional plantation and the synergy among the related components are needed to increase for the maintenance of the medical plantation terms and environmental preservation.

Abstract

This research aims at investigating: 1) the lexical farm of traditional medical plants for children deseas according to Usada Rare; 2) young generations knowledge about the lexical forms of traditional medical plants for children’s diseases in accordance with Usada Rare manuscripts; 3) the uses of the lexical forms of traditional medical plants in adults speech. The setting of this study is the province of Bali, consisting of eight regencies and one city government, with the total number of samples of 225 adults and 2545 traditional headers. The samples of the study were determined by using purposive quota sampling technique. The dates about the lexical forms were collected by means of documentations method and note-talking technique. The data about the adults knowledge as to the traditional medical plants were obtained through structured questionnaire and lexical competency test. The data concerning the adults speech were gained through speaking test. Then, the data were analyzed descriptively. The result of the study shows that; 1) the lexical forms of the traditional medical plants according to Usada Rare were 122 types, which are classified into general and specific material ; 2) the young generations knowledges about the lexical forms can be categorized into : a) the young generation having very strong believe towards traditional medications and having very strong maintainance as to the lexical forms of medical plants, such as adult in Klungkung regency 247 (49,40%); Karangasem 226 (45,20%), and Bangli 210 (42%); b) The group of community having a strong confidence about modern medication will have a weaker maintainance about the lexical forms of medical plants, such as Denpasar 60 individuals ( 12%), Badung 65 people (13%), and Buleleng 83 persons ( 16,60%). The uses of lexical forms in speech were limited to the contexts of curing deseases. Suggestions are directed to health department, Bapedal, Dishutbun, and Documents Centre of Balinese Culture, to take care, socialize and conserve the environment together for the sake of keepingthe health of the nature, culture and community.
