Abstract

This article aims to literature review regarding spiritual care in Islamic culture perspective. Systematic review is done to support knowledge regarding spiritual care. Literature studies from 2007 to 2017 are identified narratively and reviewed critically in Islamic cultural perspectives. The method for literature analysis is using eight steps from Walker and Avant. The findings of this review stated that spiritual care is a dynamic activity to integrate physical, psychological, social, and spiritual aspects. Spiritual care takes the form of spiritual service that is done dynamically and integratively based on divine and human values especially Islamic cultural values. The main services include caring for the sick, identifying spiritual needs, and increasing spiritual well-being. The implications of the findings are to help building policies in nursing and to help nurses in developing positive attitude in applying spiritual care. The conclusion of this literature review produces a comprehensive definition regarding spiritual care and supports spiritual care competency in health in Islamic cultural perspective.

Abstract

This research aimed to examine the relationship between emotional maturity, problem-focused coping, emotion-focused coping and depression among first-year college students. It was hypothesized that emotional maturity, problem-focused coping, and emotion-focused coping correlate with the tendency of depression among first-year college students. Participants were 214 college students in Yogyakarta (male=66; female=148). Multiple regression analysis showed that emotional maturity and emotion-focused coping contribute significantly to first-year college students depression with 19% contribution (R² = 0.19; p < 0.05). Emotional maturity negatively correlated with depression tendency (t = -6.026; p < 0.05), while emotion-focused coping positively correlated with first-year college students depression tendency (t = 2.265; p < 0.05). Result showed that problem-focused coping has no significant relationship with depression tendency (t = -0.557; p > 0.05).

Abstract

The relations between perfectionism, self-esteem, and depression were examined among 77 normal subjects (late adolescence college students). Multiple regression analysis was conducted to test the hypothesis that general perfectionism and self-esteem played a significant role in depressive symptoms. In addition to the regression analysis, product moment analyses were conducted to determine the correlation of each of the five dimensions of perfectionism with depressive symptoms. Results indicated that general perfectionism and selfesteem were significant predictors of depressive symptoms. The regression model informs that general perfectionism (β= 0,143; p

Abstract

Maternal mortality rate in Indonesia is considered relatively high (UNICEF, 1994). It is necessary to make concrete efforts to cut down the number of women who die in the period of their pregnancy, at birth, and in the period of 42 days after birth, either caused by direct effects of pregnancy of birth, or by indirect effects of certain diseases, not to include accidents. Maternal mortality has socially broad impact since the mother’s double functions is cannot be replaced by others. Research has shown that a baby born by a mother who died at the birth, has 90 % possibility to die in the first year of his or her life. This tragedy should not have happened since 80 % of maternal mortality can be prevented (Indonesian Department of Health, 1999). This study is meant to find an alternative method which is reliable and testable to improve the level of initiative (responsive attitudes) of pregnant women and of all elements of the surrounding social institutions to issues related to maternal mortality risk. One to mention is by comparing the use of simulation method (together with poster campaigns) with that of radio-spot broadcast method. The study focuses on several targets, among others are 1) a case study related to the handling of high-risk pregnancy which has so far been done, as a step stone to developing an instrument to change attitude/behavior; 2) constructing an inventory or questionnaire on attitude change which will be used as a measuring instrument in the research to follow; and 3) making instruments to change attitude (in the forms of simulation sheets and posters) of which the effectiveness, validity, and reliability as intervening media will be trained to the simulation facilitators. Developing intervening media in the form of radio-spots will be in the third-year phase of the study, and comparing the two intervening media is to be done in the year afterwards. The third and fourth studies, however, do not manifest since the budget cut is significant in limiting the production of the intervention media. The preliminary study by using in-depth interviews with 56 subjects showed that a great majority of high-risk pregnant women had low level of understanding and initiative to various anticipatory measures needed to face emergency situations in pregnancy period and at birth. A number of social institutions in the surroundings such as neighbors and Village Community Welfare Institutions and health service providers such as Integrated Service Post and Community Health Center had not yet played significant roles. Draft of simulation sheets and posters had been made and tried out according to the plan. The questionnaire has been designed and has been tried out. The training for the facilitators has also been completed in the first year study. Keywords: Simulation method, material mortality.

Abstract

The study tested the explanatory model of intentions for divorce based on the theory of social exchange, theory of planned behavior by Ajzen and model of dissolution by Amato and Rogers. The 197 subjects participating in this study were wives who had filed for divorce at the religious courts in several districts and cities in South Sulawesi. The measuring tools of the study were divorce intention scale and marital relationship scale developed by the researcher based on theoretical constructs of each tested factor. The theoretical model developed was tested with analysis of Structural Equation Models (SEM). The results of the study revealed that the intentions of divorce could be explained by the strong effects of negative relationships such as domestic violence, infidelity and irresponsibility. It was also found that there were weak barriers to divorce and post-divorce expectation of a better life with new partner who could love them more. Indirect factor that contributed to divorce intention was level of education. These findings confirmed the explanatory models of divorce intention based on social exchange theory, planned behavior theory, and the suggested Amato and Rogers’ divorce models.
