Abstract

This service activity is to improve the ability of partners and be able to develop and add expertise to the community, develop community knowledge about the utilization of palmyra waste so that it has use value for the environment, be able to increase income and reduce fertilizer purchases for agriculture and to develop an attitude of cooperation with others. Utilization of Palmyra waste into liquid organic fertilizer to reduce environmental pollution. The long-term benefits of using liquid fertilizer can improve the physical, chemical and biological properties of the soil. Liquid fertilizer is easy to make and the technology is simple. Lontar (Borassus flabellifer) is one of the typical plants in Jeneponto Regency which has many benefits, one of which is that it can be used as organic fertilizer. This service was carried out on farmer groups in Punagaya village, Bangkala sub-district, Jeneponto district, South Sulawesi, totaling 17 people. The results of this training activity showed that all training participants were very enthusiastic and eager to pay attention and listen to the material about the use of palm waste as organic fertilizer and how to make it delivered by the resource team. Based on the results and discussion of the implementation of activities, it can be concluded that several things including partners in this case the farmer group is able to make organic fertilizer from palm waste, and a partner group is formed that is economically and socially independent through this activity.

Abstract

Centella asiatica is a type of herbaceous plant that has many health benefits. This plant is a source of phenolic compounds, flavonoids, triterpenoids, alkaloids and tannins. This research aims to examine the phytochemical content and antioxidant potential of 70% ethanol extract of Centella asiatica leaf and the results of fractionation using 3 types of solvents with different polarities. Centella asiatica leaves were extracted by maceration method, then fractionation and phytochemical screening were carried out. The total phenolic content test was carried out using the Folin Ciocalteu method and the antioxidant activity test was carried out using the DPPH (2,2-diphenyl1-picrylhydrazyl) method. The yield of 70% ethanol solvent maceration, n-hexane fraction, ethyl acetate fraction and methanol fraction were 18.782%, 3.05%, 6.19%, and 92.46%, respectively. Phytochemical screening of 70% ethanol extract of Centella asiatica leaves contains flavonoids, tannins, phenolics, alkaloids and steroids. The nhexane fraction contains alkaloids, tannins, phenolics and triterpenoids. The ethyl acetate fraction contains flavonoids, saponins, tannins, phenolics, alkaloids and steroids. The methanol:water fraction contains alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, tannins, phenolics and triterpenoids. The total phenolic content test of 70% ethanol extract, n-hexane fraction, ethyl acetate fraction and methanol:water fraction was 12.773 ± 0.479 mg GAE/g, 1.182 ± 0.124 mg GAE/g, 18.334 ± 0.305 mg GAE/g, and 10.211 ± 0.247 mgGAE/g, respectively. Antioxidant activity of 70% ethanol extract, n-hexane fraction, ethyl acetate fraction and methanol:water fraction with IC50 values of 7.4 ppm, 2122.5 ppm, 45.6 ppm and 126 ppm.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the antimicrobial activity of ethanol extract of matoa leaves (Pometia pinnata) against Salmonella typhi and Bacillus subtilis bacteria. This study began with preparing raw materials in the form of matoa leaves and then extracting the matoa leaves using the maceration method with 70% solvent. After that, the antimicrobial activity test was carried out using the disc diffusion method with four concentration variations, namely 5%, 7.5%, 10%, and 12.5% with a positive control in the form of 50 ppm amoxicillin and a negative control using distilled water, each treatment using three replications. The results in the form of inhibition zones formed were measured using calipers. The data obtained were then analyzed using SPSS 30 with the ANOVA test and further tests in the form of tests. The test results showed that 70% ethanol extract of matoa leaves had an effect on inhibiting the growth of Salmonella typhi and Bacillus subtilis bacteria. The largest inhibition zone in Salmonella typhi was found at a concentration of 7.5% with a diameter of 16.87 mm, while in Bacillus subtilis it was found at a concentration of 12.5% with a diameter of 12.22 mm. Abstract

This research aims to determine the total phenolic content and antioxidant activity of the ethanol extract from Matoa (Pometia pinnata) leaves as well as its effect on blood sugar levels in male mice (Mus musculus) induced with alloxan. To determine total phenolic content using the Folin-Ciocalteu method, and the DPPH method to measure antioxidant activity. The effect of Matoa leaves on blood sugar reduction in mice used a completely randomized design (CRD) with 15 mice divided into 5 treatments with 3 replications: namely P1 (Extract 125 mg/kg BW), P2 (Extract 250 mg/kg BW), P3 (Extract 500 mg/kg BW), K+ (Glibenclamide), and K- (Na-CMC 0.5%). Extraction used the maceration method with 70% ethanol solvent. The results of the total phenolic test showed the presence of phenolics with a value of 26.24872 mg GAE/g. The measurement of antioxidant activity yielded an IC50 value of 1.961 ppm. The results of testing the blood sugar levels showed that there was an effect of giving ethanol extract of Matoa (Pometia pinnata) leaves on reducing blood sugar levels in male mice (Mus musculus). Giving of ethanol extract of Matoa leaves at a dose of 250 mg/kg BW is effective in reducing blood sugar levels. So it can be concluded that the ethanol extract of Matoa leaves has an effect on reducing blood sugar levels in male mice
