Abstract

Abstract: This research answers the problem that is, the use of directed reading thinking activity strategy improves students’ reading comprehension on narrative text of the eighth grade of SMP N 2 Pontianak. This study was conducted to answer the following problems:How does directed reading-thinking activity  improve students’ reading comprehension in the orientation, complication and resolution in narrative text?In this research, direct reading thinking strategy is reading strategy in which focused on developing the students reading comprehension in finding out the main idea and the detailed information and understanding the reference, inference and the new or unknown vocabularies of narrative text. This study used classroom action research method. The tools of data collection used observation checklist, and field note. On the first, second and the third cycle the writer used picture and text as helping strategy. From the result of measurement test, the data showed that the students’ mean score had improvement from the first cycle to the third cycle. The research results showed that students’ reading comprehension on narrative text improved after being taught by Directed Reading-Thinking Activity Strategy.   Keyword: Reading Comprehension, Narrative Text, and Direct Thinking Activity Strategy. Abstrak: Penelitian ini menjawab masalah mengenai penggunaan strategi membaca cermat  secara langsung dalam meningkatkan pemahaman membaca pada teks narrative terhadap siswa  kelas delapan di SMP Negeri 2 Pontianak . studi ini untuk menjawab permasalah berikut: bagaimana strategi membaca cermat  secara langsung dapat meningkatkan kemampuan pemahaman membaca siswa melalui orientasi,complikasi dan resolusi pada teks naratif. Dalam penelitian ini direct reading thinking activity strategi adalah strategi membaca yang mana berfokus dalam meningkatkan pemahaman membaca siswa dalam menemukan ide pokok, infornasi terperinci, referensi, kesimpulan dan kosa kata baru pada teks naratif. Studi ini menggunakan metode penelitian tindakan kelas. Alat pengumpulan data menggunakan observasi centang dan halaman catatan. Dalam siklus pertama, kedua dan ketiga penulis menggunakan gambar dan teks sebagai membantu tekhnik tersebut. Dari hasil tes penilaian, data menunjukkan bahwa nilai rata –rata siswa mengalami peningkatan dari siklus pertama hingga siklus ketiga. Dari hasil analisis data menunjukkan pemahaman membaca siswa pada teks naratif menggunakan direct reading thinking activity strategy meningkat. Kata kunci : Pemahaman Membaca, Teks Naratif, dan Strategi Membaca Cermat Secara  Langsung.

Abstract

AbstractThis research is aimed to investigate whether or not the use of picture series affect the students’ writing of recount text and to find out the effect size of the improvement of students’ writing of recount text after being taught using picture series of the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 5 Pontianak. The form of this research is pre-experimental study with one group pre-test and post-test design. The population of this research is the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 5 Pontianak, while the sample is class X A that consists of 32 students. The research findings show that the mean score of pre-test is 59.41 while the mean score of post-test is 69.16. It shows that picture series improves the students’ writing of recount text. The result of this research shows that t-test is higher than t-critical the value is 5.512.042. It means that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. It can be concluded that there is a highly significant effect of the use of picture series for teaching writing of recount text on the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 5 Pontianak. Keywords: Picture Series, Teaching Writing, Recount Text

Abstract

AbstractThis research discussed the students’ reading comprehension on recount text. The problem was on comprehending the specific information of recount text. The 39 students of class VIIIB participated in this research. The researcher observed the students’ improvement in reading comprehension by collecting data through observation checklist, field notes and reading test. The students’ attitude towards the learning process was gathered by observation checklist and field note. The data of reading recount text was obtained by reading test which was administered through scoring rubric. Based on the data, the students showed improvement in the process of reading recount text. In cycle I, they could explore the generic structure and language features of the story through jigsaw puzzle game, but less in organizing the time. They took very long time to finish the puzzle and the test. The researcher conducted the cycle II which resulted that, the students could answer the questions and do jigsaw puzzle to comprehend the reading text. The students also got motivation during learning through the game. From all of the result, it can be inferred that jigsaw puzzle can improve students’ reading comprehension on recount text. Key words: Reading Comprehension, Recount Text, Jigsaw Puzzle Game

Abstract

Abstract: This research intended to improve students’ reading comprehension of recount text through Question Answer Relationship (QAR) strategy on the eighth grade students of SMP Haebat Islam Gontong Kubu Raya. The research method that used was Classroom Action Research (CAR) which consists of three cycles.  To measure the students’ improvement on reading comprehension, the writer administered the evaluation test. The research finding showed that QAR strategy improved students’ reading comprehension. Based on the analysis of the students’ test result, QAR strategy made students achievement improved in every cycle.  In the first cycle, the students still had difficulty in comprehending the recount text, both text explicit and text implicit information. Students’ mean score was 61.17. In the second cycle, students’ ability in identify text explicit information was better compared to the previous cycle, their ability in answer Right There questions improved. Students’ mean score was 77.5. In the third cycle, the students made significant improvement in comprehending text implicit information. It showed by students’ ability in answer the Think & Search questions improved. The students’ mean score was 83.33 which categorized as good to excellent.   Key words: reading comprehension, QAR strategy, classroom action research.   Abstrak: penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memperbaiki pemahaman membaca teks recount dengan menggunakan strategi Question Answer Relationship (QAR) pada siswa SMP Hebat Islam Gontong Kubu Raya kelas delapan. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian tindakan kelas yang terdiri atas tiga siklus. Berdasarkan analisis terhadap hasil tes siswa, strategi QAR membuat pencapaian siswa meningkat dalam tiap siklus. Pada siklus pertama, banyak siswa masih kesulitan untuk memahami baik informasi eksplisit maupun implisit. Nilai rata-rata siswa adalah 61.17. Pada siklus kedua, kemampuan siswa dalam mengidentifikasi informasi eksplisit lebih baik dibandingkan dengan siklus sebelumnya. Nilai rata-rata siswa adalah 77.5. Pada siklus ketiga, kemampuan siswa dalam menjawab pertanyaan Think and Search meningkat. Siswa membuat peningkatan yang signifikan dalam  memahami informasi implisit. Nilai rata-rata siswa adalah 83.33 yang dikategorikan sebagai good to excellent. Kata kunci: pemahaman membaca, strategi QAR, penelitian tindakan kelas

Abstract

Abstrak: Penelitian ini berjudul Kesalahan Siswa dalam Menulis Kalimat. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah: (1) untuk menganalisa jenis-jenis kesalahan yang dilakukan oleh siswa dalam menulis kalimat menggunakan simple present tense dan simple past tense. (2) untuk menemukan jenis kesalahan yang paling sering dilakukan oleh siswa kelas delapan SMPN 01 Sajingan Besar. Penelitian ini di kategorikan dalam metode deskriptif. Karena penelitian ini dimaksudkan untuk menjelaskan kondisi objektif pada penulisan siswa yang focus pada tenses dengan menganalisakesalahannya. 22 siswa kelas A berpartisipasi dalam studi ini. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukan siswa kelas delapan telah melakukan kesalahan dalam menulis kalimat. Jumlah persentase kesalahan tertinggi dalam penelitian ini adalah penulisan kalimat simple past tense denganpersentase 50.3%, sementara, 49.7% terjadi pada simple present tense danjeniskesalahanyang paling sering terjadi dalam penelitian ini adalah kesalahan dari misformasi kalimat dengan persentase 82%. The purposes of this research was: (1) to analyze types of errors made by students in writing simple sentence by using simple present tense and simple past tense and (2) to find out the most dominant errors made by grade eight students of SMPN 01 SajinganBesar. This study is categorized as descriptive analysis because it intended to analyze the objective condition of students’ errors in writing sentences focused on tenses. The data were collected by using written test. 22 students of class A participated in the study. The findings of this research shows that the grade eight students of Junior High School 01 SajinganBesar made errors in writing sentences using Simple past tense and Simple present tense in academic year 2015/2016. The highest percentage of error is in simple past tense with percentage 50.3%. While, There 49.7% in simple present tense and type of error mostly occurred in this research is error of misformation with percentage 82%. Keywords: Error, Writing, Tenses

Abstract

Abstract: The aim of this research was to find out how well the use of Pelmanism Game in improving students? vocabulary. This research used Classroom Action Research. There were two problems encountered. First, most of the students did not know the meaning of English words. Second, most of the students mispronounced some English words. This research consisted of two cycles. The tools of data collecting were observation checklist, field note, and test. This research was implemented to 39 seventh grade students of SMP LKIA Pontianak in academic year 2014/2015. The students? responses showed that they were interested in learning vocabulary through pelmanism game. It can be seen through the students? mean score in the first cycle that was 78.7 to 90.1 in the second cycle. It can be concluded that the students? vocabulary taught by using pelmanism game improved. Keywords: Vocabulary, Game, Pelmanism Game Abstrak: Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah menemukan bagaimana penggunaan permainan pelmanism dalam meningkatkan kosakata siswa. Penelitian yang digunakan yaitu Penelitian Tindakan Kelas. Ada dua masalah yang ditemukan. Pertama, banyak siswa yang tidak mengetahui arti dari kata-kata dalam Bahasa Inggris. Kedua, banyak siswa yang salah dalam mengucapkan kata-kata dalam Bahasa Inggris. Penelitian ini terdiri dari 2 siklus. Alat yang digunakan dalam pengumpulan data adalah lembar pengamatan ceklis, catatan lapangan, dan tes. Penelitian ini dilakukan kepada 39 siswa kelas 7 SMP LKIA Pontianak di tahun ajaran 2014/2015. Respon siswa menunjukkan bahwa mereka tertarik belajar Bahasa Inggris dengan permainan pelmanism. Hal ini bisa dilihat dari nilai rata-rata siswa pada siklus pertama yaitu 78,7 menjadi 90,1 pada siklus kedua. Bisa disimpulkan bahwa perbendaharaan kosakata siswa yang diajarkan melalui permainan pelmanism meningkat. Kata kunci: Kosakata, Permainan, Permainan Pelmanism

Abstract

AbstractThe aim of this research is to improve students’ writing ability, especially in subject-verb agreement in simple present tense of a descriptive text. This research was conducted at the Grade Eight students of SMPN 22 Pontianak in academic year 2017/2018. In this research, the subject is class VIIIB that consists of 30 students. The researcher conducted a classroom action research. The data were collected by measurement technique. The tools of data collecting were observation checklist, field note, and test. Single slot substitution drills was used as the technique of improving writing ability in this research which was conducted in two cycles. The research findings showed that students’ individual score on the first cycle, there were 14 students of 30 students passed the test. On the second cycle, 23 students passed the test. The writing ability of a descriptive text of Grade Eight students of B class of SMPN 22 Pontianak in academic year 2017/2018 improved by single slot substitution drills technique. Keywords: Writing, descriptive text, single slot substitution drills.

Abstract

Abstract: The purpose of this research is to design teaching material to help students in learning vocabulary with anti-corruption topic in supporting character education to students in SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Pontianak academic year 2015/2016. The completed research was implemented to the first semester of eleventh students in SMA Muhamadiyah 1 Pontianak. There were 30 students who actively involved in this research. The method of this research was development research which consisted of four phases: analyze, design, develop, and implement or called ADDI. The result of the research is a design of teaching material comic to help students in learning vocabulary with anti-corruption topic in supporting their character education. The comic was used for one class meeting on Giving Suggestion topic. On the implementation, based on the observation and feedbacks both from the students and the teacher, it was found that anti-corruption comic was usable for students in learning vocabulary to support their character education of anti-corruption on Giving Suggestion topic.   Key words: Development Research, Vocabulary, Anti-Corruption, Comic Abstrak: Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk merancang bahan ajar untuk membantu siswa dalam mempelajari kosa kata yang berhubungan dengan topik anti-korupsi dalam rangka pendidikan karakter kepada siswa-siswi di SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Pontianak tahun ajaran 2015/2016. Penelitian ini diimplementasikan kepada siswa-siswi kelas sebelas di SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Pontianak. Terdapat 30 siswa-siswi yang terlibat aktif dalam penelitian ini. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian pengembangan yang terdiri dari empat tahapan: analisis, desain, pengembangan, dan implementasi atau disebut ADDI. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah rancangan materi pembelajaran yang digunakan untuk membantu siswa-siswi dalam mempelajari kosa kata yang berhubungan dengan topic anti-korupsi dalam rangka membantu pendidikan karakter mereka. Materi ajar komik digunakan di dalam satu pertemuan belajar dalam topic Giving Suggestion. Pada tahap implementsi, berdasarkan observasi dan umpan balik baik oleh siswa-siswi maupun guru, didapati bahwa komik anti-korupsi dapat digunakan bagi siswa dalam mempelajari kosa kata untuk membantu pendidikan karakter anti-korupsi pada topic Giving Suggestion Kata Kunci: Penelitian Pengembangan, Kosa Kata, Anti-Korupsi, Komik

Abstract

AbstractThis research focused on investigating the effectiveness of picture series as a medium to teach writing a narrative text to the tenth grade students of SMAN 7 Pontianak in academic year 2017/2018. It was pre-experimental research and the subjects of the research were thirty four students of X MIA 5. The sample was taken using cluster random sampling technique. The technique of data collection was measurement test. Then, the instruments to collect the data were pre-test and post-test in the form of writing test. The findings showed that the mean score of pre-test was 65.35 and post-test was 72.50. The interval between the pre-test and post-test was 7.15. Based on the data analysis, the effect size was 0.89 and categorized as moderate effect based on the table of effect size. Therefore, the use of picture series as a medium to teach writing a narrative text was considerably effective in which the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected.Keyword: picture series, medium, teaching writing, narrative text

Abstract: The research is about improvingability on writing report text through Think-Pair-Share to the Tenth Grade Students of SMAPGRI I Pontianak in AcademicYear 2012/2013. The objective of the study is to know how the TPS improves the Students ability in writing report text. It is expected that the research would be useful for the teachers and students in language teaching and learning process. The method used in this research is a Classroom Action Research which consists of Planning, Acting, Observing and Reflecting. This method is done in two cycles in order to get the maximum result of the research.The subject of the study is the Tenth Grade Students of SMP PGRI I Pontianak in AcademicYear 2012/2013. The number of research participant is 30 students. The technique used for collecting data measurement technique and direct observation technique. The tools of collecting data arewritten test, observation checklist and field notes. In Cycle 1, the students mean score was 75.0. and cycle 2, the mean score was 79.16. Based on the minimum standard of pass (KKM), that is 65, the mean score of the first cycle was high and even more the second cycle. It means, the writer just does the research on two cycles.
