Abstract

Cerebral Palsy (CP) is a permanent disorder in the development of movement and posture in children. One of the movement problems in children with CP is stiffness of the soleus muscle which results in a tiptoe position. This position will make it difficult for the child to stand and walk, thereby reducing the child's functional and movement abilities. This research was conducted to determine the effect of providing foot core stability training therapy on increasing the range of motion of the ankle dorsi flexion joint and increasing the functional ability to walk in children with CP. This research is a field experimental one group pre and post test design. The sample was 15 children with CP at the AzZaki inclusion foundation in Surabaya, who were given foot core stability exercise therapy intervention 10 times in a row for 10 days. The ankle dorsiflexion range of motion was measured with a gonometer and functional walking ability with GMFM (gross motor function measurement). Research Results is there was a mean increase in ankle LGS towards dorsi flexion of 3.2° (p=0.001) and a mean increase in walking ability with GMFM measurements of 11.2% (p=0.00).

Abstract

Cerebral palsy (CP) is a condition of movement and function disorders in children that requires continuous physiotherapy. One factor in the successful development of children with CP is the existence of a home program/independent therapy carried out by parents at home. In providing the home program, physiotherapists at YPCP Surabaya gave leaflets to parents. However, this was less effective because it was easily damaged, so the home program media was replaced with video. The effectiveness of both in increasing parental compliance in carrying out the home program every day is not yet known. Objective: to find out the difference in parental compliance in carrying out a home program between using leaflet media or video media. Method: 20 parents of children with CP were randomly divided into leaflet groups and video groups, 10 people each. Each person is monitored for compliance in carrying out the home program for 1 week (7 days). Measurement of compliance with checklists every day. Results: parents in the video media group were more compliant in carrying out the home program than parents in the leaflet media group. Conclusion: video media is more effective in increasing the compliance of parents of children with CP in carrying out home programs compared to leaflet media.

Abstract

Abstract

Background: Children with developmental disabilities often experience sensory and behavioral disorders that impact social, emotional, and academic abilities. Physiotherapy plays a crucial role in providing Tactile Stimulation, a structured tactile stimulation that stimulates the sensory and motor nervous systems, to support sensory integration, emotional regulation, and improved adaptive behavior. This study aimed to determine the effect of Tactile Stimulation on reducing sensory and behavioral disorders in children at Autism Education Foundation of Mutiara Hati, Surabaya Branch. Research Methods: This study was a field experiment with a one-group pretest-posttest design. A sample of 12 children was selected based on inclusion and exclusion criteria from a pool of 38 children with sensory and behavioral disorders. The intervention, in the form of Tactile Stimulation, was administered in six sessions over two weeks, each lasting 30 minutes. Measurements were conducted using the Short Sensory Profile (SSP) questionnaire for sensory aspects, and teacher interviews were conducted to evaluate behavioral changes. Normality was tested using the Shapiro-Wilk test, and hypothesis testing used the Wilcoxon test with a significance level of p<0.05. Results: The statistical test results showed no statistically significant effect between the pretest and posttest (p>0.05). However, clinically, 8 of the 12 children showed a decrease in SSP scores (66.7%), and teacher interviews indicated positive changes in behavior, such as increased calmness, focus, and ability to follow instructions. Conclusion: Tactile Stimulation did not have a statistically significant effect, but showed a positive clinical impact on the majority of children.

Abstract

Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD) adversely affects motor control, weakens postural muscles, and causes physical instability in children. Cases at Clinic X Surabaya indicate that this physical issue is frequently accompanied by behavioral challenges such as sensory seeking, hyperactivity, and poor focus, as the child feels unsafe against gravity (gravitational insecurity), which triggers a stress response (fight-or-flight). To overcome the limitations of conventional therapy that only strengthens muscles in isolation, this single-subject research with an A-B design evaluates the level 2 hybrid protocol "V-POST" (Vestibular-Postural Exercise Integration). The research subject was Master A (male, 5 years old) at Clinic X Surabaya, who was trained twice a week for 8 weeks (total of 16 sessions, 60 minutes each). This therapy combines vestibular stimulation using a gym ball and a swing with functional exercises such as dynamic squats, balance discs, and a balance beam. Evaluations using SATCo, PBS, and Behavior Observation Sheets showed improved capabilities in the subject. Postural stability (SATCo) increased by 2 levels from Mid-Thoracic to Lower-Lumbar, the PBS balance score rose by 50% (from 32 to 48 points) with single-leg stance capability jumping from 0 to 5–7 seconds, and focus duration increased by 300% (from 3 to 12 minutes) followed by a decrease in hyperactive behavior. In conclusion, this case study on a child with sensory and behavioral disorders proves that the V-POST protocol is highly effective in enhancing the child's motor control.

Abstract

Knee osteoarthritis (OA) is a degenerative musculoskeletal disease that commonly causes pain and decreased functional ability in older adults. This condition affects daily activities such as walking, prolonged standing, and climbing stairs. One of the physiotherapy interventions that can be applied is Close Kinetic Chain Exercise (CKCE), which aims to improve joint stability, muscle strength, and functional ability. This study aimed to analyze the effect of Close Kinetic Chain Exercise on reducing pain intensity and improving functional ability in patients with knee osteoarthritis. This study used a field experimental method with a one group pre-test and post-test design. The sample consisted of 11 female respondents aged 50–60 years diagnosed with knee osteoarthritis selected using purposive sampling. Pain intensity was measured using the Visual Analog Scale (VAS), while functional ability was assessed using the Jette Scale. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test. The results showed that all respondents experienced decreased pain intensity and improved functional ability after the intervention. Statistical analysis showed a significance value of 0.003 (p < 0.05) for both pain and functional ability variables. It can be concluded that Close Kinetic Chain Exercise has a significant effect on reducing pain intensity and improving functional ability in patients with knee osteoarthritis
