Tinjil Island, coveringa total area of 600 ha, is a semi-natural captive breeding site for long-hailedmacaques.The increased populationof the macaques being bred, have shown the success of the breeding programme, thus there shouldbeanticipation of their dietary needs in thelongterm(porti0nand natural diets). Thedietary potential ofTinjil Island have not yet been adequately inventoried in terms of species, amounts and distributions. Therefore researchshould be conducted regarding the habitat's condition and potential diets of the Island.

Abstract

Mangrove ecosystem in Bengawan Solo estuary is a part of the essential ecosystem and also as important and endemic birds’ areas. Aim of this study is to analysis the parameter of habitat condition, analysis the different of time and spatial pattern and provide the management strategy for water birds and habitat. Reseach was carry out at January – May, 2017 (two period observation). Methods are used i.e. concentration count, single and unit plot, point count, interview and field observation. Data analyze using chi-square, grid-line point and mark point, beak-type and vegetation analysis. There are 41 (forty one) species of water birds (23 migrant species and 17 native species). Chi-square analysis have significance difference both the time and spatial and also type of feed with chi-square values (χ2 hit.(2;0,95) > χ2 tab.(2;0,95). Migrant birds’ occupy the mudflat for feeding and resting ground, while the native birds use pond areas. Common the invertebrate species as feed for migrant like crustace and native birds are tend to feed fish and shrimp. Feeding and resting activities by migrant birds was influence by water-tidal condition. Total of water birds population are 112.100+ individual. Total of mangrove species was identified are 15 (fifteen) species, and dominant at three habitus by Avicennia alba. Keywords: Bengawan Solo Estuary, mangrove ecosystem, spatial and time, water birds

Abstract

Mangrove ecosystems have enormous benefits for the community, especially for people living on the coast. The problems in the management of mangrove forests in Pangkah Kulon and Pangkah Wetan Villages are people did not consider the importance of mangrove ecosystems in terms of economics. The purpose of this study is 1) analysis community perceptions of the mangrove ecosystem; 2) estimating the total economic value of the mangrove ecosystem in Pangkah Kulon and Pangkah Wetan Villages. Data analysis in this study used descriptive and quantitative analysis. Descriptive analysis is used to explain the activity of utilizing mangrove ecosystem resources, while quantitative analysis is used to calculate the perceptions and total economic value of mangrove ecosystems. The method of selecting respondents was purposive and snowball sampling, with a total number of respondents 60 person. Perception analysis using a Likert scale, analysis of the total economic value for the direct-use value using the price of resources used, indirect-use value using replacement costs, and option value using benefit transfers. The average perception of respondents has a value between 3.60 to 4.60, this mean that respondents agree and strongly agree to the functioning of mangrove ecosystems, both in economic, socio-cultural, ecological and physical functions, and respondents have a high dependency on mangrove resources. Analysis of the potential total economic value of the mangrove ecosystem is Rp. 97,547,237,496/year. The total economic value obtained from the direct-use value (utilization of the fisheries sector) amounted to Rp. 51,672,497,300/year, indirect-use value (abrasion restraints and sea waves) amounted to Rp. 45,161,544,004/year, and option value (biodiversity) amounted to Rp.713,196,192/year. The total economic value of the mangrove ecosystem in Pangkah Kulon and Pangkah Wetan Villages shows that the mangrove ecosystem provides great benefits for the community. Keywords: direct-use value, existence value, indirect-use value, mangrove ecosystem, option value, total economic value

Abstract

Cuscus is a marsupial mammal endemic to the eastern part of Indonesia. Populations and their habitats are under pressure due to economic development, population growth and utilization of forest resources. So far, studies on cuscus ecology have mainly focused on protected habitats or conservation areas, this study aims to identify and analyze populations and predict the distribution of cuscus in non-protectes area which is PT Wijaya Sentosa. This research conduct in November 2020 until January 2021 in several land cover categories. The methods used in this study include literature and secondary data studies, field observations using strip-transect and camera trap techniques, interviews using purposive sampling techniques. This study found nine individuals of cuscus from direct observation with strip-transects and two individuals of cuscus from camera trapping. The ground cuscus population (P. gymnotis) had the highest abundance and density, while the common spotted cuscus (S. maculatus) population owned the lowest values. The population structure dominates by male sex and adult age class, and no female sex and young age class were found. Cuscus was more commonly found solitary in the line of observation and not found in every line. The shape of the distribution pattern of the cuscus population at PT Wijaya Sentosa is cluster/aggregated, determined from the value of the dispersion index and the ratio of variance to mean. The most common ground cuscus was found in the 2018 and the 2013 logging area (LOA).
