Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the influence of academic stress on student subjective well-being and to examine the role of positive religious coping as a moderating variable among high school students in a boarding school setting. The study employed a quantitative approach with an explanatory research design. The research population consisted of all students of SMA IMBS Yogyakarta who resided in the dormitory, totaling 139 students, and a saturated sampling technique was used. Data were collected using a questionnaire with a five-point Likert scale. The instruments were adapted from the Educational Stress Scale for Adolescents (ESSA), Student Subjective Well-Being Questionnaire (SSWBQ), and Brief RCOPE. Data analysis was conducted using SEM-PLS with the assistance of SmartPLS 4. The results showed that academic stress had a negative and significant effect on student subjective well-being (β = −0.436; p < 0.05). Positive religious coping had a positive and significant effect on student subjective well-being (β = 0.536; p < 0.05). However, positive religious coping did not function as a moderating variable in the relationship between academic stress and student subjective well-being (β = −0.095; p > 0.05). These findings indicate that higher levels of academic stress experienced by students are associated with lower levels of student subjective well-being. Meanwhile, positive religious coping can enhance student subjective well-being, but it does not strengthen or weaken the influence of academic stress on student subjective well-being.

Abstract

One of the ways to get closer to God is to escape from the world's temptations by going on a journey (safar, mlaku). This study aims to uncover the meaning of spiritual well-being in individuals who perform tirakat mlaku. This article is qualitative research with a phenomenological approach. The subject of this study is the congregation (jemaat) of Sheikh Abdullah Ibn Mas'ud Sukabumi, who perform tirakat mlaku. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and using interpretive phenomenological analysis. This study found that there are three meanings for those who undergo tirakat mlaku: (1) quality of life, (2) social well-being, and (3) environment well-being. This study also reveals that spiritual well-being is an interrelationship between one's relationship with God, subjective well-being, and socio-environment well-being. This article provides a new perspective on the concept of tirakat as a path to closeness to God, directly affecting the quality of life, social life, and environmental protection.Contribution: The results of this study can be used as a guide in constructing the dimension of spiritual well-being in the context of Islamic psychological theory. While practically, it provides an outlook of the meanings of divinity that are implemented in social activities.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the effects of career adaptability and perceived organizational support on subjective career success, as well as to analyze the moderating role of perceived organizational support in the relationship between career adaptability and subjective career success among kindergarten teachers who are members of the Raudhatul Athfal Teachers Association (Ikatan Guru Raudhatul Athfal/IGRA) in Banyumas Regency. This study employed a quantitative explanatory research design. The sample consisted of 104 teachers selected through simple random sampling from a population of 568 teachers. Data were collected online using the Subjective Career Success Inventory (SCSI), Career Adapt-Abilities Scale (CAAS), and Survey of Perceived Organizational Support (SPOS), and were analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) with SmartPLS version 4. The results showed that: (1) career adaptability had a positive and significant effect on subjective career success (p < 0.001; f² = 0.971); (2) perceived organizational support had a positive and significant effect on subjective career success (p = 0.030; f² = 0.041); and (3) perceived organizational support did not significantly moderate the relationship between career adaptability and subjective career success (p = 0.221; f² = 0.016). This study concludes that subjective career success among kindergarten teachers who are members of IGRA in Banyumas Regency is primarily self-driven, being determined by individuals' internal psychological capacities rather than by external workplace conditions. The implications of this study highlight the importance of formulating policies and work programs within the IGRA organization that focus on strengthening teachers' internal psychological aspects, particularly the dimension of career adaptability, as well as the necessity for teachers to raise self-awareness in independently enhancing their career adaptability capacity.
