Abstract

Writing is more than a medium of communication. It means that writing is not just a way to communicate with each other but also a means of ideas and emotional expression (Raymond, 1980).Writing makes words permanent, and thus expands the collective memory of human beings. Spoken words disappear as soon as they are spoken, but writing freezes their thoughts and makes them visible and permanent so people can examine and test their quality.students gotdifficulty starting the writing, they got confused about what to write and also about how to generate ideas. This is because the lack of knowledge about the steps in writing was a procedural factor that cause difficulties for all students. And the most important thing is that writing usually getsthe least attention in teaching learning in the classroom, which makes students rarely exposed to writing.This matter might happen because acquiring writing skills needs a lot of practice, and producing a piece an essay needs a long process. Most researchers recognize this difficulty in writing is caused by the complexity of writing. roundtable teaching technique is a technique that requires a group or team working in the teaching learning process which requires all members to know and be ready to explain their group’s answer(s), when students help their group mates, they help themselves and their whole group, because the response given belongs to the whole group, not just to the group member giving it. Roundtable is a technique designed with a round table form that divides the students into groups with their respective tasks and allows students to work or solve problems by working together in which each member in the group has each task and then the results obtained from the task they have done will be collected and solved simultaneously. Abstract

This study deal with the analysis of refusal speech act used by male and female sellers at Pasar Sambu Medan. This study attempted two answers to the problems, namely (1) What are the dominant refusal speech acts used by male and female sellers at Pasar Sambu Medan, and (2) What are the difference of refusal speech act used by male and female sellersat Pasar Sambu Medan. This study used descriptive qualitative research. The data of this study was refusals in bargaining between sellers and buyers that took at Pasar Sambu Medan. The collecting data has applied observation and audio recording as the instrument. The finding of this study showed that male sellers used performative statement strategy most dominant which implicitlyindicated that they tended to refuse the buyer’s offered in a direct way. Instead female sellers, used avoidance/hedging most dominant which indicated that they preferred to refused their buyer’s offered in an indirect way. This study found the difference refusal speech act used by male and female sellers was male sellers refused more than female sellers.

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui: 1. Untuk mengidentifikasi jenis-jenis Gaya Bicara yang digunakan oleh Retno Marsudi dalam Pernyataan Pers pada Pertemuan Menteri Luar Negeri G20. 2. Untuk mengidentifikasi Gaya Tutur yang dominan digunakan oleh Retno Marsudi dalam Pernyataan Pers pada Pertemuan Menteri Luar Negeri G20. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Data penelitian ini diambil dari pidato Retno Marsudi pada Pertemuan Menteri Luar Negeri G20. Peneliti menganalisis transkripsi ucapan Retno Marsudi. Peneliti menggunakan teori yang dikemukakan oleh Martin Joos. Peneliti menemukan tiga penggunaan pola bicara berbeda yang berjumlah 36 item, setelah mengumpulkan data dari film. 28 item atau 78% Gaya Beku, 7 item atau 19% Gaya Formal, dan 1 item atau 3% Gaya Intim. Gaya bicara yang dominan digunakan Retno Marsudi adalah Gaya Beku. Namun, karena keadaan acara tidak sesuai untuk Gaya tersebut, maka Gaya Santai dan Gaya Konsultatif tidak ada. Peneliti juga berharap penelitian ini dapat menambah pengetahuan kita tentang sosiolinguistik, khususnya tentang berbagai macam gaya bahasa.

Abstract

Kedisiplinan adalah kepatuhan untuk menghormati dan melaksanakan suatu sistem yang mengharuskan orang untuk tunduk kepada keputusan, perintah, dan peratuaran yang berlaku. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk dapat mengetahui bagaimana cara Guru PPKn dalam Meningkatkan Kedisiplinan Siswa melalui mata pelajaran PPKn, dikarenakan para siswa-siswi di SMP Hang Tuah Titi Papan masih banyak siswa yang kurang akan disiplin disekolah. Tujuan utama dari penelitian ini untuk mengetahui bagaimna cara guru PPKn dalam meningkatkan kedisiplinan siswa disekolah SMP Hang Tuah Titi Papan. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode kualitatif yaitu menggambarkan suatu kejadian-kejadian yang terjadi dilapangan sekolah SMP Hang Tuah Titi Papan. Teknik pengambilan data dalam penelitian ini yaitu observasi, dokumentasi, dan wawancara. Dalam meningkatkan kedisiplinan siswa tentunya harus ada kerja sama antara peran guru dengan orangtua peserta didik guna untuk peserta didik menjadi lebih baik lagi akan sikap disiplin yang dilakukannya kedepan. Dari hasil wawancara yang dilakukan, upaya peningkatan disiplin oleh peran guru di Smp Hang Tuah Titi Papan, ada banyak siswa yang ikut aturan hingga menjadi lebih disiplin, namun ada juga beberapa siswa yang sering bermasalah pada saat jam pelajaran berlangsung, seperti mengobrol didalam kelas dan ribut. Dengan demikian dapat disimpulkan bahwa peran guru PPKn dalam meningkatkan kedisiplinan siswa di SMP Hang Tuah Titi Papan sudah cukup baik dilakukan. Kata Kunci: Guru PPKn, dalam Meningkatkan Kedisiplinan Siswa Abstract Discipline is obedience to respect and implement a system that requires people to submit to the decisions, orders and regulations that apply. This study aims to find out how PPKn Teachers improve Student Discipline through Civics subjects, because there are still many students at Hang Tuah Titi Papan Middle School who lack discipline at school. The main purpose of this research is to find out how Civics teachers improve student discipline at Hang Tuah Titi Papan Middle School. The method used in this study is a qualitative method that is describing an incident that occurred in the field of Hang Tuah Titi Papan Middle School. Data collection techniques in this study are observation, documentation, and interviews. In improving student discipline, of course there must be cooperation between the role of the teacher and the parents of students in order for students to become even better at the disciplinary attitude they will carry out in the future. From the results of interviews conducted, efforts to increase discipline by the role of the teacher at Hang Tuah Titi Papan Middle School, there are many students who follow the rules to become more disciplined, but there are also some students who often have problems during class hours, such as chatting in class and making noise. . Thus it can be concluded that the role of the PPKn teacher in improving student discipline at Hang Tuah Titi Papan Middle School is quite well done. Abstract

The purpose of this research is to examine the use of flout maxims in various situations and to determine which situations a character in the movie "Oz the Great and Powerful" out the maxims. The data were analyzed using a qualitative descriptive technique based on Grice's maxims and the principle of cooperation. The research data was derived from the conversations of the film's major characters, Theodora and Oscar Diggs, with the film's dialogue serving as the research context. Scripts films serve as study data sources. Thus, there are four types of flouting of the maxims committed by the characters in the film. The maxim of quantity is violated by providing incorrect and unnecessary information, the maxim of quality is violated by providing false information, the maxim of relation is violated which is irrelevant, and the maxim of manner is violated by providing information that is not clear. The finding of this research, four types of maxims are violated: 10 utterances violate the quantity maxim, 1 utterance violates the quality maxim, 1 utterance violates the relation maxim, and 1 utterance violates the manner maxim. Based on the research on the maxims flouted, this study concludes utterance that maxims are still flouted in films. It is necessary to fulfill four types of maxims in order to have a cooperative and effective discourse.

Abstract

The objective of this research was to find out whether the use of Taylor Swift’s songs can improve the Vocabulary Mastery and Listening Skill of seventh grade students at SMP Swasta Methodist-2 Medan ability using Taylor Swift’s songs and to know which skills improved more significantly. The method used here is Classroom Action Research (CAR). The data was obtained through quantitative method using tests and qualitative method using observation sheets and interview. The research subject were 29 students from class 7B of SMP Swasta Methodist-2 year 2022/23.  From the research findings, it was concluded that Taylor Swift’s songs improved students’ Vocabulary Mastery and Listening Skill. This is concluded from the results of the scores students achieved from Pre-Test to Post-Test. The Mean of the Vocabulary Pre-Test was 31.93 with 10.34% of the students passed the KKM. Then in the Cycle-1, The Mean was 72.31 with 62.07 of the students passing the KKM. Finally in Cycle-2, The Mean was 87.07 with 96.55% of the students passing the KKM. In Listening Skill, the Mean of the Pre-Test was 55.03 with 37.93% of the students passed the KKM. Then in the Cycle-1, The Mean was 91.34 with 96.55% of the students passing the KKM. Finally in Cycle-2, The Mean was 97.79 with 96.55% of the students passing the KKM. Based on the data, it can be concluded that the students’ Listening skill improved more significantly than Vocabulary Mastery. Abstract

This study aimed to know the English Department students’ perception toward teaching skills through the implementation of Kampus Mengajar program. There were 26 of the English Department students. This study used a descriptive qualitative design. The researcher used questionnaire to collect the data, the Likert Scale. The result of this study showed that the English Department students’ perception are positive, as many as 15 students (55,77%) of the 26 English Department students, this shows that more than half of the English Department students’ perception related to skills of opening and closing the lesson, 14 students (53,85%)related to explaining skills, 15 students (55,77%) related to variation skills, 13 students (51,92%) related to questioning skills, 13 students (51,28%) related to reinforcement skills, 17 students (64,10%) related to class management skills, 13 students (50%) related to small group teaching skills, and 15 students (55,77%) related to skills of guide small group discussion. Abstract

ABSTRACTEntrepreneurial intention is one of the right solutions to spur economic growth. Where this intention is strongly influenced by various factors, one of which is the environment. Based on this explanation, the researcher wants to focus on knowing how environmental variables (family and peers) influence the entrepreneurial intention variable (through the theory of planned behavior). Its process, this research is based on quantitative research (with the expo facto method) which focuses on questionnaires as the research instrument (using 111 respondents with accidental sampling). In addition, this research has also been said to be feasible and can be continued because it has fulfilled all the requirements starting from the instrument test and classical assumptions. Based on the analysis process (multiple linear regression analysis with SPSS 23), the results obtained explain that there is a positive and significant influence between the family environment and peers on entrepreneurial intentions (0.573 and 0.489).Keywords: Entrepreneurial intention, family, peer.

Abstract

Communication is important for people around the world. Without communication, people will not be able to communicate each other. In understanding some different languages, people need to learn the target language to communicate with, for instance Indonesian people learn to acquire English. In the context that English in Indonesia is considered as foreign language, it causes the learners understand not only the language but also the culture. In order to convey their messages and remain in a conversation until their communication goal is achieved, ESL (English as a Second Language) learners need to employ communication strategies, which have been defined generally as devices used by second language by second language learners to achieved specific communication goals. This study was aimed to find teacher communication strategies during classroom interaction. The use of those communication strategies is underlying two main reason which are solving the speaking problems and making interactive speaking and learning situation. Teachers used various communication strategies to stimulate learners to be more active during the teaching and learning process.

Abstract

Keterampilan menulis merupakan salah satu dari empat keterampilan yang harus dipelajari dalam mata pelajaran bahasa Inggris. Keterampilan tersebut juga dipelajari pada tingkat Sekolah Menengah Atas atau Sekolah Menengah Kejuruan. Peneliti yang mengajar di SMK Negeri 1 Dharma Caraka Gunungsitoli Selatan) di Kota Gunungsitoli, Sumatera Utara, menemukan siswa kelas X-1 tahun ajaran 2022/2023 kesulitan dalam mengorganisasikan isi dan pengorganisasian teks. Untuk memecahkan masalah tersebut, peneliti menggunakan metode mind map untuk menyelesaikan permasalahan siswa. Metode ini berlaku pada siswa kelas X-1 Tata Busana sebagai sampel penelitian. Kelas tersebut mempunyai 34 siswa. Pendekatan penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif. Sedangkan untuk mengumpulkan data peneliti menggunakan diskusi dan wawancara. Semua siswa di kelas tersebut menjawab pertanyaan yang diberikan oleh peneliti. Kesimpulan penelitian adalah metode mind map sangat membantu siswa dalam menulis dengan mudah, dan teknik mind map juga merupakan cara yang tepat agar siswa tidak merasa malas dan bosan dalam belajar bahasa Inggris.
