Abstract

This study aims to analyze the lyrics of the song "Kawanen Saur" using a Peircean semiotic approach, focusing on understanding the signs contained in the lyrics and how these lyrics reflect the life experiences and cultural values of Indonesian society, especially during the month of Ramadan. The results of the analysis show that the lyrics of this song describe a person's concrete experience, especially the difficulty of waking up in the morning, through a combination of representamen, objects, and interpretants that produce a deep understanding of the behavior and situations experienced by the individual. The lyrics also describe the struggle between physical needs, social norms, and religious morality, by showing the internal conflict that arises due to the difference between desires and applicable rules. In addition, this analysis reveals that the lyrics function as a representation of Indonesian culture, by describing the experience of breaking the fast and conveying a profound moral message. Through the elements of representamen, objects, and interpretants, a humorous and reflective meaning is created that not only provides entertainment but also reflects a culture rich in spiritual and social values. In conclusion, the lyrics of the song Kawanen Saur not only represent a personal story, but also describe collective values in society, as well as showing the spirit of hard work and the hope for spiritual rewards through dedication and devotion.

Abstract

Global ecological crises demand sustainability education that integrates cultural and ecological values beyond formal and Western-oriented frameworks. Traditional performing arts offer holistic pedagogical resources through embodied, symbolic, and participatory practices, yet their potential remains underexplored in sustainability discourses. In Indonesia, the Pakarena Anida Dance of South Sulawesi exemplifies how ritual gestures, ornate costumes, and narrative symbolism function as cultural texts transmitting ecological ethics and community values. However, limited scholarship has examined how female dancers operate as custodians of both cultural heritage and environmental responsibility. This study employs a descriptive qualitative design, drawing on anthropology, semiotics, and cultural studies to analyse the symbolic representation of female dancers in South Sulawesi traditional performances. Multi-sited fieldwork was conducted in Makassar City, Wajo Regency, and Toraja Regency, involving 29 purposively selected informants—including cultural leaders, senior dancers, troupe members, and audiences. Data were collected through performance observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation of manuscripts and visual records. Analysis followed Miles and Huberman’s interactive model, supported by thematic and interpretive strategies. Findings reveal three key insights. First, Pakarena Anida embodies conservation values through symbolic movements—such as bowing and circular formations—that signify humility and ecological balance. Second, the dance functions as informal education, with rehearsals and performances serving as “schools without walls” where intergenerational ecological and moral wisdom is transmitted. Third, costumes, music, and ritualised gestures operate as cultural codes that internalise local values, reinforcing identity, humility, and responsibility across generations.

Abstract

This qualitative research study investigates the role of music as a catalyst for fostering sustainable tourism practices and contributing to the long-term social, economic, and environmental well-being of ecotourism destinations. The focus is on Truthung's musical performances in Magelang, which serve as reflections of local tourism potential and the surrounding natural environment, including the Borobudur Temple and the Merapi, Merbabu, Andong, Sumbing, and Menoreh Mountains. Drawing upon the interdisciplinary concept of ecomusicology, this study employs various data collection methods, including observations, interviews, and documentation. By examining the growth and development of Truthung Music performances, with a particular emphasis on key figures such as Sutanto Mendut and farming artists from Merbabu, this research sheds light on the transformative power of music within the local community. The findings reveal that Truthung Music not only represents the rich local environment and culture within tour packages in Magelang Regency but also emphasizes the broader interplay between nature and culture. "Village Civilization" provides clear evidence of the relationship between nature and culture, showcasing the local potential of the Lima Gunung arts community. This research addresses a gap in the literature by examining the specific role of music in the context of ecotourism and its contributions to sustainable practices. The implications extend beyond the local community, providing valuable insights for policymakers, tourism professionals, and cultural preservationists regarding the significant role that music can play in promoting sustainable tourism and preserving the cultural heritage of ecotourism destinations.

The ultimate goal is to improve students' skills in creating engaging and effective instructional media, providing benefits to children, and contributing positive knowledge to the general public. As a solution, this program creates a simple arrangement of children's songs with characters in three languages as instructional media for PGSD and PGMI students. In its implementation, students are equipped with the skills to create simple arrangements of children's songs with the hope that this will serve as valuable preparation for creating engaging instructional materials.

Abstract

Macapat is a literary form with musical elements that is gradually losing its prominence in modern times. The limited efforts to preserve Macapat in Javanese language education necessitate innovation to engage students in learning activities. The utilization of technology can offer an intriguing learning experience. To this end, web-based applications can be employed to develop educational media. The purpose of this study is to describe the implementation of web-based interactive media in learning macapat and introducing the value of local wisdom. The research was conducted at SD Negeri Burengan 2 Kediri, with the participation of Javanese language class teachers and 5th grade students as research subjects. The data collection techniques in this study included observation, interviews, and documentation. After collecting the data, the researchers analyzed it using the Miles and Huberman model, which includes three stages: data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing/verification. To ensure the data's validity, the researchers utilized data triangulation techniques. The study's findings demonstrate that website-based interactive media can enhance learning experience through interactivity. Various website-based applications like Canva, Wheelofnames, Online-Stopwatch, and Wordwall can serve as learning media. Employing interactive media helps guide students' focus, allowing for the effective transmission of the inherent value of local wisdom found in macapat.
