Abstract

This study examines the integration of Tembang Bocah Banyumasan into the PGMI curriculum at UIN Saizu Purwokerto as a decolonizing intervention in music education. In the PGMI context, the longstanding dominance of Western music has limited pre-service teachers’ exposure to local musical knowledge, weakened cultural rootedness, and produced learning practices that are insufficiently aligned with Indonesia’s cultural diversity. The paper aims to examine how this integration unfolds through three key phases: critical awareness, reappropriation, and emancipation and knowledge production, where students create and perform works that integrate local culture, Islamic values, and environmental awareness. The research employs a qualitative descriptive approach, analyzing curriculum structure, weekly learning stages, and empirical findings from student engagement. The results indicate that integrating Tembang Bocah Banyumasan fosters cultural identity, critical thinking, and creativity among PGMI students, while also contributing to a more inclusive, contextually relevant curriculum for elementary schools. Challenges, such as limited access to traditional instruments, were addressed through digital tools and local artist collaborations, ensuring a meaningful and adaptable learning experience. The findings suggest that this integration not only decolonizes music education but also bridges the gap between university and elementary school curricula, offering a model for inclusive and culturally responsive teaching.

Abstract

This community service program aimed to empower Arts and Culture teachers in Banjarnegara through training on local song writing and the integration of digital platforms in music education. The initiative was motivated by the need to enhance teachers’ competence, strengthen local cultural identity, and promote creative learning innovations aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), and SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities). The program involved members of the MGMP Seni Budaya Banjarnegara and was implemented through a workshop model combining lectures, discussions, and practical sessions. Teachers were guided to compose children’s songs based on Banjarnegara’s local wisdom, such as traditional cuisine, natural attractions, and cultural values, which were later digitized and uploaded to the E-LokalTunes platform as digital learning materials. The outputs included at least one song per group, copyright registration (HKI), and a demonstration video to promote the works. The results showed that the program successfully improved teachers’ creativity, digital literacy, and confidence in integrating technology with cultural content. Overall, this initiative demonstrates how digital innovation can support cultural preservation, strengthen local identity, and serve as a sustainable and replicable model for arts-based education in other regions.

Abstract

Marching bands as community musical activities have pedagogical potential in the development of soft skills, but studies on this topic are still relatively limited in the context of engineering vocational education. This study aims to understand and identify musical activities in marching band activities as a learning space for soft skills for engineering vocational students at the Politeknik Energi dan Mineral (PEM) Akamigas. The focus of the study is directed at the forms of musical activities that take place in marching bands and their role in facilitating the development of soft skills through collective, structured, and sustainable musical practices. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study design that has ethnographic tendencies. Data were collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews with marching band members, coaches, and advisors, as well as document studies. Data analysis was conducted thematically by linking field findings to Robles' soft skills framework and Temmerman's theory of community musical activities. The results of the study indicate that marching band musical activities, such as routine practice, playing instruments, marching, and group coordination, serve as an effective non-formal learning space for developing students' soft skills, including discipline, teamwork, communication, leadership, and responsibility. These findings confirm that community musical activities have pedagogical relevance as a medium for contextual soft skills learning in engineering vocational education.

Abstract

This study aims to formulate an integrated model for deep learning and cultural literacy in teaching regional songs at the junior high/senior high school level within the Merdeka Curriculum framework. Amidst the cultural literacy crisis and the dominance of global pop music that threatens the existence of regional songs among teenagers, a more meaningful and inclusive learning approach is needed. Using a qualitative, literature-based design, this study analyzed curriculum documents and literature on deep learning, cultural literacy, and SDG 4.7. The results show that regional songs are highly relevant to the Music Arts Learning Outcomes and the Global Diversity dimension of the Pancasila Student Profile. The developed integration model consists of four continuous stages: Contextual Exploration, Critical Appreciation, Reflection and Connection, and Creative Expression. The inclusive characteristic is the main uniqueness of this model, as the absence of demands for musical technical skills as prerequisites allows all students to actively participate. This model contributes to achieving SDG 4.7 targets by strengthening the appreciation of cultural diversity and strengthening the Global Diversity dimension in the Pancasila Student Profile. This research provides practical implications for teachers and curriculum developers in designing meaningful and inclusive regional song learning
