Abstract

This study addresses the challenges faced by service providers in construction projects, particularly in dealing with changes in work that may affect the project’s timeline and cost. Changes can introduce risks of loss, especially when claims for extension of time (EOT) and additional costs incurred due to prolongation are not properly approved by the Employer. Failure to submit a valid claim for EOT and prolongation costs can result in substantial financial losses for the service provider. The research aims to develop a method for effectively managing these risks by integrating the output of the Last Planner System (LPS) into the administrative support data for claims. This method is used to calculate delay events and create a structured, reliable claim evidence document. The findings suggest that using the LPS framework can help construction managers systematically document and justify delays and cost impacts, thereby improving the likelihood of claim approval. This approach can enhance the efficiency of claims management and reduce financial risks for service providers. The study’s implications highlight the importance of proactive planning and proper documentation in managing construction project risks, emphasizing the need for robust administrative systems to support claims for delays and associated costs.

Abstract

One of the bridge projects in Kalimantan is built on soft soil. Soft soil has poor bearing capacity, low shear strength and permeability, and high compressibility. One of the substructures of the bridge project, consisting of two spun pile points, experienced failure (exceeding the allowable inclination, indications of breakage at a depth of -8,000 mm, and failure to achieve the planned bearing capacity). The failure occurred after excavation for the pile cap was carried out.The additional load from preloading embankments and a spun pile stockyard, located 20,000 mm and 15,000 mm away, caused lateral deformation in the existing soil. This lateral deformation influenced additional deformation and bending moments in the failed spun piles. An evaluation of the additional load on the spun piles was conducted using the Finite Element Method with Plaxis 2D software. The additional load from the preloading embankments and stockyard was analyzed to determine its impact on the spun piles. The analysis showed that the additional load from the preloading embankments and stockyard caused lateral deformation, leading to deformation and bending moments in the spun piles. However, this additional load alone was not sufficient to cause failure in the spun piles.

Abstract

The leading cause of failure of an embankment dam is the occurrence of excessive seepage, which triggers piping that can disrupt the stability and safety of the dam. This study discusses the dam's safety against the danger of seepage with a case study of the Jatibarang Dam. The safety evaluation uses V-notch monitoring data during the operational period from 2018 to 2021. The highest seepage discharge recorded during that period was 2,232 lt/sec/m, where the unsafe threshold for seepage based on the dam's height was 0,56 lt/sec/m, so seepage is unsafe. Meanwhile, based on the seepage discharge index (QI) calculation, the QI value is less than one, so the seepage discharge is still safe. Evaluating dam safety against excessive seepage discharge for dams of the same type as the Jatibarang Dam is more appropriate to use the seepage discharge index (QI) threshold because the parameters in the equation are complete.ABSTRAKPenyebab utama kegagalan suatu bendungan tipe urugan adalah terjadinya rembesan berlebih yang memicu piping yang dapat mengganggu kestabilan dan keamanan bendungan.

Abstract

Abstract

The design of student housing in the modern era is not only required to provide functional comfort but also to address the challenges of energy efficiency and environmental sustainability. Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) responds to these needs through the development of a Student Dormitory that adopts the principles of smart and green building. The purpose of this community engagement program is to evaluate the implementation of intelligent and environmentally friendly building concepts from technical, functional, and operational economic perspectives. This program employs a case study method with a descriptive qualitative approach, based on the analysis of building technical documents and a review of relevant national and international scientific literature. The findings show that the integration of digital access control systems (smart access), energy-efficient VRV (Variable Refrigerant Volume) cooling, harmonic filters, solar water heaters, and the use of Panasap Blue Glass has significantly contributed to reducing energy consumption by up to 40%. In addition to enhancing residents’ comfort and security, these technologies also demonstrate potential investment payback within 5 to 7 years. The implications extend beyond cost and operational efficiency, contributing directly to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Furthermore, this program is grounded on the principle of sustainability, emphasizing the long-term utilization of eco-friendly technologies, the principle of benefit, ensuring tangible advantages for students, the university, and the wider community through improved quality of life and reduced carbon footprint; and the principle of economic viability, guaranteeing operational cost efficiency and financial sustainability of the project. The strategic objectives of this community engagement initiative are (1) to establish UMY’s Student Dormitory as a model of environmentally conscious student housing in tropical regions, (2) to promote knowledge and technology transfer on smart and green buildings to other universities, (3) to strengthen UMY’s reputation as a modern campus aligned with the SDGs agenda, and (4) to create an energy-efficient housing ecosystem that contributes to long-term cost savings and improved residents’ well-being. In conclusion, the study indicates that UMY’s student housing model, based on smart and green building principles, is feasible to adopt as a reference for dormitory development in other higher education institutions, particularly in tropical areas

Abstract

Portland Composite Cement or PCC is an eco-friendly material that has been registered as a green product. In order to support green construction, the use of PCC has begun to be developed, including rigid pavement for road construction in Indonesia. Things that need to be investigated from the use of PCC are the compressive strength and flexural strength behavior for certain rigid pavement concrete qualities and the initial setting time of cement. The use of PCC which is still in the development stage needs to be investigated by substituting it with Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC). In this study, there were 6 variations of substitution, namely 100% OPC, 20% OPC and 80% PCC, 40% OPC and 60% PCC, 60% OPC and 40% PCC, 20% OPC and 80% PCC, and 100% PCC. . The results of the test using the vicat, the higher the proportion of PCC, the lower the normal consistency, so that the less water content is required for the hydration reaction between cement and water to occur. Meanwhile, the higher the proportion of PCC, the higher the initial setting time, so that the cement setting time is slower. In testing the compressive strength of concrete, the higher the proportion of PCC at the age of 28 days, the compressive strength of the concrete tends to decrease. In testing the flexural strength of concrete, the higher the proportion of PCC at the age of 7 days, 14 days and 28 days, the flexural strength of the concrete tends to decrease. Based on the research results, concrete with a higher proportion of OPC has a higher compressive strength and flexural strength than concrete with a higher PPC mixture.
