Abstract

This study aims to describe the strategies a teacher employs to enhance the early reading skills of first-grade students at SD Bala Keselamatan Palu and to identify the factors that support and hinder their implementation. A qualitative descriptive approach was adopted, involving a first-grade teacher and 28 students (14 boys and 14 girls) as subjects. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, and subsequently analysed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model, which encompasses data collection, data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. Data validity was ensured through technique and source triangulation. The results indicate that the teacher implemented differentiated instruction using a "flexible grouping" strategy as the primary method to improve students' early reading skills. This strategy began with identifying students' initial abilities, followed by grouping them based on proficiency levels and learning readiness; adjustments were made regarding materials, methods, media, and task difficulty for each group, complemented by individual guidance, supplementary instruction outside regular class hours, and continuous evaluation to update group assignments. The strategy's success was supported by teacher competence, the availability of learning media and facilities, student motivation, school support, and parental cooperation. Conversely, challenges included significant disparities in students' reading abilities, limited instructional time, a lack of family support at home, low self-confidence among some students, and the dynamics of adjusting group compositions. The findings demonstrate that differentiated instruction via flexible grouping effectively accommodates diverse student abilities and fosters greater improvement in early reading skills than uniform, whole-class instruction. These findings offer practical insights for teachers in designing adaptive and sustainable reading instruction.

Abstract

This study aimed to improve the regional song singing ability of fifth-g,rade students at SD Inpres Binangga through the integration of audiovisual media and the Card Sort method. The study was motivated by students’ low singing performance caused by conventional teaching practices, limited use of instructional media, and low learning engagement. This research employed Classroom Action Research based on the Kemmis and McTaggart model, consisting of two cycles with the stages of planning, action, observation, and reflection. The participants were 12 fifth-grade students in the 2025/2026 academic year. Data were collected through observation, performance tests, and documentation and analyzed using descriptive quantitative and qualitative techniques. The findings revealed continuous improvement in students’ singing ability across the research cycles. The average score increased from 58.3 in the pre-cycle to 72.5 in Cycle I and 84.2 in Cycle II, while classical learning mastery improved from 25% to 66.7% and finally reached 91.7%, exceeding the predetermined success criterion. The integration of audiovisual media and the Card Sort method also enhanced students’ participation, confidence, and collaborative learning. Therefore, this instructional approach is effective in improving elementary students’ regional song singing ability and can serve as an innovative strategy for music learning.

Abstract

Background: The Napu Valley Megalithic Site in Central Sulawesi is a historically significant area of high cultural value that has been nominated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. However, its educational potential has not been optimally utilized in arts and cultural learning at the elementary school level, largely due to limited digital resources and insufficient teacher proficiency in using technology. Purpose of the Study: This community service program aimed to address these challenges by training 15 teachers at SDN Tamadue to create 3D virtual art galleries using the Artsteps platform. Methods: The program was implemented in three sequential phases: Preparation, Training, and Implementation & Evaluation, following the ADDIE instructional design model. Results: Quantitative results demonstrated significant improvement, with the average teacher competency score rising from 52.4 (pre-test) to 85.6 (post-test), representing a 63.4% increase. Ten virtual galleries were successfully created and deployed in classrooms. Post-training evaluation revealed that 100% of teachers were satisfied, 93.3% rated the content as highly relevant, and 80% committed to continuing their use of Artsteps. Classroom observation confirmed increased student engagement and active participation in local arts and cultural learning
