Abstract

Effect of Land Unit Generalization on the ErosionLevel  (Study Case in Air Nelas Watershed, Bengkulu Province)The research aims to identify the effect of land unit generalisasion on the erosion at the Air Nelas catchment area in Bengkulu Province. Land unit generalisation is one step to be done in arrangin RTL-RLKT (Rencana Teknik Lapangan-Rehabilitasi Lahan dan Konservasi Tanah; Field Planning for Soil Rehabilitation and Conservation) conducted by Balai Pengelola DAS (formerly Balai RLKT).Method applied by conducting digital analysis using GIS Program to calculate erosion of the catchment area with USLE (Universal Soil Loss Equation) formula. Comparison analysis was done between the result of erosion before and after land unit generalisation. Land unit generalisation is a process to eliminate land unit having area 1 cm2 on map or 25 hectares on the field at the scale of 1:50.000. The instruction to run generalisation in ArchInfo GIS program is ELIMINATE. Land unit generalisation is done to simplify map analysis manual by avoiding land unit which is very small in the area. The research result showed that for the whole Air Nelas catchment area the erosion rate was 601,279.49 ton/ha/year before generalisation and 267,907.54 ton/ha/year after generalisation, indicating that there was a 33,371.95 ton/ha/year difference or 55.44% as the effect of land unit generalisation process. When the observation was mainly at the area of rehabilitation and conservation, there were categorical changes of the erosion i.e. from Moderate to Heavy or Very Heavy and vice versa. The change was varying between 148,244.82 ton/ha/year (Moderate to Very Heavy) and 79,470.62 ton/ha/year (Very Heavy to Moderate). Overall, the erosion was increaasing aas 65,335.90 ton/ha/year (11,01%) for the whole category in area where rehabilitatin and conservation have to be conducted. Those changes would affect the plan which determine recommendations to be taken in rehabilitation and conservation of catchment areas, as well as change in the project location and budget.

Abstract

Indeks vegetasi yang mempertimbangkan latar belakang tanah (MSAVI dan TSAVI) mempunyai koefisien korelasi lebih tinggi dibanding dengan koefisien korelasi yang tidak mempertimbangkan latar belakang tanah.ABSTRACTThe research was aim at studying C factor mapping derived from various vegetation indices of remotely-sensed data as input for USLE (Universal Soil Loss Equation) erosion modeling at Merawu Catchment. Methodology applied was by analyzing remote sensing data of Landsat 7 ETM+ to obtain various vegetation indices for correlation analysis with C Factor measured directly from 45 locations on the field. The analysis resulted models for C factor mapping from various vegetation indices (Cmodel). These C factor maps were validated using 48 locations on the field to know their accuracies. These research used 11 (eleven) vegetation indices of remotely-sensed data, namely ARVI, MSAVI, TVI, VIF, NDVI, TSAVI, SAVI, EVI, RVI, DVI and PVI. The research result showed that from 11 vegetation indices there were 8 vegetation indices resulted high accuracy of C factor maps, i.e. MSAVI, TVI, VIF, NDVI, TSAVI, SAVI, EVI and RVI. Vegetation indices using more complicated formulae resulted higher correlation of coefficient compared to those vegetation indices using simpler formulae. Vegetation indices that account for soil background (MSAVI and TSAVI) resulted higher correlation of coefficient compared to those vegetation indices without considering soil background

Abstract

This study successfully investigated the engine performance and emission characteristics of a dual injection system that uses both gasoline and ethanol fuels. The study utilized a microcontroller-based control system (PGM-FI) to substitute ethanol fuel injection for gasoline injection. Ethanol fuel was injected at the inlet with three different pressures: 1.0 bar, 1.2 bar, and 1.4 bar, while gasoline injector pressure was fixed at 2 bar. Results showed that substituting ethanol injection with a pressure of 1 bar resulted in a slight decrease in torque and power, but it was the best compared to the other pressures tested. The study found that the use of ethanol injection resulted in improved fuel economy at an ethanol injector pressure of 1 bar with a reduction in SFC of 8.89%. Exhaust emissions were also reduced, with a maximum reduction in CO emissions of 42.54% occurring at a pressure of 1 bar. Similarly, the lowest HC content in exhaust gas was observed at a pressure of 1 bar, which was reduced by 44.48%. However, the results highlighted that ethanol injection pressure could significantly reduce fuel consumption for case A-04 and increase the air-fuel ratio.

Abstract

Runoff coefficient plays a crucial role in estimating the peak discharge of a river basin. Therefore, this research aimed to investigate runoff coefficient in the Air Bengkulu watershed based on temporal land cover data and evaluate the existing spatial planning. Land cover data from 1998, 2002, 2016, and 2023, with spatial patterns derived from current regional planning were used. The temporal and spatial pattern-based runoff coefficients were determined using land cover data and spatial pattern function, respectively. Meanwhile, descriptive and comparative methods were adopted based on time. The calculated runoff coefficient was 0.073, 0.093, 0.276, and 0.273 for 1998, 2002, 2016, and 2023, while the value obtained based on spatial patterns was 0.306. Additionally, a general trend of increasing the values over time was observed. Land cover change, particularly the decline of forest areas and the expansion of settlement and plantation, contributed to the rising runoff coefficient. The results showed that runoff coefficient (0.306) exceeded the current land cover, similar to other analyses with higher runoff in the predicted scenario. This research suggested a need for a more detailed classification system and scale to accommodate land cover types with relatively low runoff coefficient. In risk assessment, land cover-like spatial patterns with low runoff coefficient should be placed as capacity other than vulnerability components.

Abstract

The natural wealth of coastal areas is not accompanied by the welfare of the people who occupy a lower economic stratum than other land communities, including in fulfilling nutrition. The study aims to analyze the influence of food security and social, health, environmental and household food security factors on the incidence of stunting in children aged 12-59 months in coastal households in Bengkulu Province. The research methodology used a mixed approach, between quantitative and qualitative. Data analysis used Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The study results showed that the policy aspect significantly affected food security (β=0.085; t=1.979; and p-value < 0.05) but is non-significant on stunting. There was a significant positive effect of health on food security with a value of β=0.237, value t = 7.157, and p-value <0.05. Health had no significant effect on stunting with a value of β=-0.040, value t = 0.963, and p-value > 0.05. Environmental aspects had a substantial adverse impact on food security (β=-0.492; t=12.846; and p-value <0.05) and a significant positive effect on stunting (β=0.155; t=2.781; and p-value < 0.05). The social aspect had a non-significant relationship with both food security and stunting. Food security was significantly related to stunting (β=0.441; t=7.971; and p-value <0.05). The research conclusion is that food security had a significant favorable association with stunting.
