Abstract

Operating room is a hospital facility that carries risk of medical injury and complications that endanger lives. There’re still near misses incidents although the surgical safety checklist is completed. The completion of the surgical safety checklist questionable.In-depth interviews were conducted with informants. Results of interviews carried out data reduction, data display (data presentation) and conclusion drawing or verification. Data was analyzed then conclusions were drawn. Efforts for patient safety have been going well by the PMKP team. Still those who were not disciplined in their implementation for SSCL. There is already socialization on filling out the SSCL, training is still under discussion. There is a guarantee of supervision of filling in and implementing the SSCL in the operating room in coordination with the nurse and PMKP team and this is done every day and recapped every month. The implementation of SSCL was carried out well by all staff in the surgical room and supervised by the head of the room. Time out still hasn't been done in the operating room. There are obstacles in implementing SSCL, especially the doctor's signature, and non-existent training. Rewards are not balanced with punishment and the number of anesthesia nurse is inadequate to ensure patient safety. There is still prone to patient safety incidents seen from the negative findings about SSCL. The implementation of SSCL is effective in reducing patient safety incidents’s number in the operating room, during the sign in, time out and sign out phases. Hospitals need to build good work teams, organize training related to the SSCL, implement supporting technology, and reinforce safety culture and supervision regarding filling and implementing SSCL.

Abstract

Ultisols are widespread in the Indonesian archipelago and have potential for developing the agricultural sector. However, Ultisols have several problems, such as low organic matter content, poor soil structure, unstable soil aggregates, high soil bulk density, and low total soil pore space. These problems result in slow soil infiltration and permeability, which can interfere with plant growth. This study aimed to determine the best dose of tithonia compost to improve certain soil physical properties and increase the yield of green mustard in Ultisols. The study was conducted from March to May 2024 at the Greenhouse of the Department of Crop Production, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Bengkulu. This study used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 6 treatments of tithonia compost doses with 3 replications. The treatments were 0 (control), 5, 10, 15, 20, and 25 ton ha-1. After mustard harvesting, undisturbed soil sample was collected from each polybag and analyzed for soil moisture, bulk density, and soil permeability. Fresh and dry weight of mustard were also measured after harvesting. The results showed that the highest improvement of selected soil physical properties was soil fertilized with tithonia compost at the rate of 15 ton ha-1, as shown in the decrease of bulk density and increase in soil moisture content, total pore space, and soil permeability. The application of tithonia compost at 5 ton ha-1 was adequate for the improvement of selected soil physical properties and nutrient release to the soil for green mustard cultivation. The findings of the study will benefit to crop management, especially mustard yield using tithonia compost in Ultisols.

Abstract

Global land cover changes driven by increasing demand for agricultural, residential, and industrial land have caused various environmental issues, including soil erosion. The study aimed to analyze soil erodibility values upstream of the Air Bengkulu watershed based on land cover and slope factors. The analysis was conducted using soil samples obtained through purposive sampling based on soil map units, topography, and land cover. Soil erodibility values were determined through laboratory analysis of organic matter, texture, structure, and soil permeability, followed by calculating erodibility. After obtaining the distribution of erodibility values, the next step involves identifying erodibility values based on slope and land cover to analyze the interaction between slope and land cover on erodibility values. Conservation recommendations are provided based on slope, land cover and consideration of community aspects to reduce erodibility values and minimize erosion risk. Results indicate that soil erodibility in the Air Bengkulu watershed ranges from very low to very high, with most areas classified as low. The findings suggest that soil erodibility values vary depending on land cover and slope. Higher erodibility values were observed in areas with minimal land cover, especially in mining and cultivated land with poor management practices. In contrast, dense vegetation such as forests and well-maintained plantations significantly reduced soil erodibility values. The interaction between slope and land cover plays a crucial role in determining soil susceptibility to erosion risk. Vegetative and mechanical conservation strategies are suggested to mitigate erosion risks, improve land productivity, and support ecosystem sustainability in the region.

Abstract

[ANNUAL FLOOD PHENOMENON AND FERTILITY STATUS OF RICE SOIL IN THE COASTAL AREA OF BENGKULU]. The rice fields in Rawa Makmur Village were agricultural land that was affected by annual floods. Soil fertility status is important for increasing the productivity of paddy. The research aimed to get the fertility status of soil affected by annual flood disasters, evaluating and mapping the distribution of soil fertility status at the research location. The methods used in this research include survey and soil testing methods at the Soil Science Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, Bengkulu University. Further evaluation of soil fertility status is in accordance with technical instructions from the Soil Research Center, Bogor (1995). This research was conducted in June – August 2023. The soil CEC value from each sampling point was classified as high with values ranging from 28.15 me/100 g - 39.83 me/100 g. The base saturation value in the study was classified as very low to moderate with values ranging from 11.49% - 40.08%. Soil organic C at the research location from each sampling point was classified as moderate to very high with values ranging from 2.42% - 5.97%. The soil phosphorus content at the research locations observed was classified as very low to low with values ranging from 2.69 mg/100 g – 12.11 mg/100 g. The soil potassium content at each sample point at the research location observed was classified as very low with values ranging from 0.14 mg/100 g – 1.43 mg/100 g. The research results show that the flood phenomenon has a significant impact on soil fertility. The soil fertility status at the research location is classified as low. Soil fertility parameters which are limiting factors in the status of soil fertility in Rawa Makmur Village are phosphorus, potassium and pH. So it is necessary to add P and K fertilizer to improve the soil fertility status.

Abstract

This study investigates the influence of land use on soil physical properties and horizon thickness in Mukomuko Regency, Indonesia, to assess the impacts of agricultural practices on soil quality. Conducted between February and April 2020, the research utilized a nested design across four districts, with laboratory analyses performed at the Soil Science Laboratory, Bengkulu University. Land use types evaluated included oil palm, rubber, and natural forest. Variables measured comprised soil structure, horizon thickness, aggregate stability, bulk density (BD), texture, and organic carbon (C-organic). Statistical analysis (ANOVA, p < 0.05) revealed significant effects of land use on BD, C organic content, and soil texture, whereas aggregate stability was not significantly influenced by vegetation type or depth. Forest soils exhibited the highest C-organic content (5.78%) and lowest BD (0.82 g cm⁻³), contrasting with oil palm soils, which had the lowest C-organic content (4.22%) and highest BD (0.86 g cm⁻³). Texture analysis showed forest soils had higher sand (19.69%) and clay (50.20%) fractions, while rubber land had the highest silt content (57.59%). Soil physical properties generally declined with depth under rubber and oil palm but fluctuated in forest soils. These results suggest that vegetation type significantly affects soil quality, with forest ecosystems maintaining superior soil conditions compared to intensively managed agricultural systems. Adoption of sustainable land management practices is essential to mitigate soil degradation and enhance long-term productivity.
