Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the effect of forward lunges training on improving the leg muscle strength of kabaddi athletes. The study employed a quasi-experimental method with a pretest-posttest control group design. The sample consisted of 34 male Kabaddi athletes from Klungkung Regency who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria, selected using total sampling and then randomly allocated into treatment and control groups. Leg muscle strength was measured using a leg dynamometer during the pretest and posttest after a six-week training program. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, the Shapiro-Wilk normality test, Levene’s homogeneity test, paired t-test, and independent t-test. The results showed that the mean leg muscle strength in the treatment group increased from 93.35 ± 4.996 kg to 150.41 ± 16.111 kg, whereas the control group increased from 95.45 ± 3.931 kg to 101.37 ± 5.483 kg. The percentage increase in the treatment group was 61.12%, higher than the 6.20% increase in the control group. The independent t-test on posttest scores showed a significant difference between groups (p < 0.001). Therefore, forward lunges training was effective in improving the leg muscle strength of kabaddi athletes.

Abstract

This study aims to define the psychological profile of martial arts athletes in Bali Province, focusing on self-confidence, adaptive aggression, motivation, and competitive drive as indicators of competition readiness. A quantitative descriptive survey was undertaken with N = 546 athletes participating in regional training programs across 10 martial arts disciplines: Judo, Karate, Kempo, Muay Thai, Pencak Silat, Taekwondo, Tarung Derajat, Boxing, Wushu, and Yongmoodo. Athletes were recruited utilizing selective sampling based on active training status and competitive experience. Data were acquired by standardized psychological surveys and evaluated using descriptive statistics, including frequencies and percentages. The results suggest that self-confidence (86.44%) and motivation (89.93%) were widely evaluated as good to very good. In contrast, adaptive aggression was rather low, with 66.85% of athletes falling in the poor to very poor category. The competitive requirement variable was primarily distributed across the adequate (40.66%) and good (40.11%) levels, with only 11.17% achieving the very good level. Differences were noted between disciplines, with Pencak Silat, Karate, and Tarung Derajat displaying substantially higher psychological profiles. Overall, the data suggest that athletes exhibit high levels of self-confidence and motivation; however, they demonstrate limited growth in adaptive aggression and competitive need. These results reveal an unequal pattern of competitive readiness and provide a baseline for future analytical or longitudinal investigations into the psychological aspects of combat sports.

Abstract

This community service activity aims to enhance the competencies of sports practitioners and academics in understanding and applying the science of biomechanics to support improvements in athlete performance through the use of technology at the Sports Science Laboratory. The method employed was a participatory observation approach. The activity was held over two days and involved 30 participants from various universities in Indonesia. The first day of the event consisted of three sessions: a presentation on the benefits of biomechanics for coaches, academics, and sports instructors; sports motion modeling using Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Computer Fusion; and the theory of biomechanical feedback in sports skill acquisition. Each session lasted 75 minutes, comprising 45 minutes of presentation and 30 minutes of discussion, with an active participant engagement rate of 16.7%. The second day focused on demonstrations and hands-on practice with biomechanical instruments, including a body analyzer, 3D motion analysis, gait analysis, electromyography (EMG), Smart Speed, Contemplas CMJ, HumanTrak, and APECS. The results of the activity showed that the combination of lecture-based instruction and laboratory practice was effective in strengthening participants’ understanding of motion analysis, the interpretation of biomechanical data, and the application of technology in performance evaluation and injury prevention for athletes. However, this activity still had limitations regarding the number of participants and did not utilize standardized evaluation instruments. Therefore, similar activities need to be developed with a broader participant base and more comprehensive evaluation methods.

Abstract

Motivation contributes a big influence on the progress of swimming athlete achievement. One of them is extrinsic motivation which becomes encouragement from outside the individual such as the support of parents, coaches, friends, and the surrounding environment. The study aimed to determine the parent's and coaches' support for the achievements of swimming athletes in the Denpasar club. The research was conducted through a qualitative descriptive approach with a survey method. The sample was 80 parents and 5 coaches with a population of 155 people at a swimming club in Denpasar. The data were carried out through observation, questionnaires, interviews, and documents. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistical analysis method. The results showed that: (1) the parental support for swimming athlete achievement was 30% (very supportive), 52% (supportive), 18% (less supportive), and (2) coach support for swimming athlete achievement was 80 % (strongly supports), 0% (supports), and 20% (fewer supports). It simply stated that parental support in achieving achievement is supportive, while the coach's support in achieving achievement is very supportive of the swimming club in Denpasar. It is suggested that the involvement of parents and coaches is important in coaching and achieving achievements.
