Abstract

Doktor Mengabdi (DM) engages in collaborative efforts to address the issue of escalating feed costs, which result in minimal profits or even financial losses. This is intensified if, during the harvest period, the price of catfish per kilogram decreases. The imperative to address these issues is subsequently addressed through training in the development and production of self-sustaining animal feed utilizing the capabilities of indigenous components. The BUMDES of Labruk Lor Village and the "Mina Agung Mandiri" Fish Farming Group collaborated with the Lumajang District Fisheries Service to carry out the activity. The applied results for this activity encompass: 1) fostering social interaction and promoting comprehension among activity partners; 2) providing guidance and education to enhance understanding of effective and proper fish farming techniques, as well as enabling the production of fish feed using readily available local resources; and 3) implementing the process of fish feed production, which involves grinding the raw materials, blending the various components, and utilizing a fish feed pellet printing machine for shaping. 4). Assessment and surveillance of the execution of tasks 5). Assessing the effects of actions, including their impact on the economy and the growth of fish, This activity empowers farmers to produce feed autonomously and demonstrates a significant upsurge of up to 40% in the profitability of fish farming operations. Moreover, the measurements conducted suggest that the water quality in each partner's pond remains appropriate for the growth of fish and does not exhibit any signs of diseases that could hinder the cultivation and development of the fish.

Abstract

Water quality is an important factor in aquaculture activities, including goldfish (Carassius auratus) farming. One approach to improving water quality is the use of nanofilters. This study aims to evaluate the performance of nanofilters made from Sargassum sp. with the addition of copper oxide nanoparticles. The method used involves the fermentation of bacterial cellulose from Acetobacter xylinum using Sargassum sp. extract as a medium, followed by homogenization and the addition of CuO-NPs at concentrations of 0.5%, 1%, and 1.5%, and subsequent oven drying. The nanofilter membrane will then be analyzed using SEM, XRD, and FTIR to characterize its properties. Performance tests will assess the quality of water used in goldfish farming, including pH, TOM, TDS, and TSS after treatment with the nanofilter. Morphological results show a rougher and denser surface with dispersed CuO-NPs. Characterization reveals cellulose I with crystallinity values ranging from 86.80% to 90.20%, with functional group peaks at 3145, 2927, and 1735 cm⁻¹ indicating cellulose characteristics, and a peak at 424 cm⁻¹ indicating Cu-O bonds. Statistical analysis of performance tests on the water quality of goldfish farming in the F-test shows significant differences (p

Abstract

The Brantas River is the longest in East Java. One of the areas included in the flow of the Brantas River is the Jombang Regency. The Jombang Brantas River is used by the community to meet their daily needs in agriculture, plantations, industry, and fishing grounds. The input of waste generated from several community activities will result in the survival of fish in the waters. Fish as a biomarker agent is quite significant in estimating the level of heavy metal pollution. Red Bader Fish (Barbonymus altus) is often found and lives around the Jombang Brantas River. This study aims to determine the condition of the aquatic environment by observing the health of the fish through hematological observations of the Red Bader Fish (B. altus). Sampling was carried out at three stations with three replications every two weeks, which was carried out in February – March 2022 in the Jombang Brantas River. Data analysis used the Canonical Correspondence  Analysis (CCA) method as an analytical method to determine the correlation between the dependent variable (hematological profile) and the independent variable (water quality conditions). In this study, the results showed that the water quality at Station 1 and Station 2 was classified as normal, while at Station 3, it was classified as polluted. Data analysis showed that erythrocytes, hemoglobin, and hematocrit had a relationship with temperature, pH, DO, BOD, ammonia, TSS, and TDS in low concentrations. Meanwhile, leukocytes and micronuclei showed a relationship with high concentrations of ammonia, BOD, TDS, and TSS. Keywords: Brantas River, Bader fish (Barbonymus altus), CCA, hematology, water quality.

Abstract

Pollution of river waters is most often the result of human activities in managing agricultural land, industry, and transportation. The entry of pollutants such as heavy metal mercury (Hg) into the waters can interfere with the survival of fish waters. Red Bader Fish (Barbonymus altus) can be used as a biomarker in analyzing aquatic environmental conditions in the Brantas River, Jombang, East Java. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between metallothionein and heavy metal mercury in the gill tissue of Barbonymus altus. Sampling was conducted at three stations with three replications from February to March 2022. Data analysis used regression and correlation methods to determine the relationship between metallothionein and metal mercury in gill tissue. The density and intensity of metallothionein in the gill tissue of Barbonymus altus were analyzed using the immunohistochemical method. The mercury (Hg) content in the gill tissue of Barbonymus altus was analyzed using Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS). The results showed that the metallothionein density at each station included station 1 of 252.52 × 10-6 – 497.79 × 10-6 MT.µm-2, station 2 of 277.78 × 10-6 – 378.78 × 10-6 MT.µm-2, and station 3 of 303.03 × 10-6 – 404.04 × 10-6 MT.µm-2. The relationship between the metallothionein density value and mercury in the gill tissue has a moderate correlation. In contrast, the metallothionein intensity value with mercury in the gill tissue strongly correlated with a significance value of sig < 0.05. The Hg levels in the gill tissue, density, and intensity have significant values at the all three locations based on the real difference test (sig. 0.00).   Keywords: Barbonymus altus, density, intensity, mercury, river.
