Abstract

The phenomenon of name changes can be found among public figures and the general public who decide to embrace Islam and change or choose Islamic names as evidence of the spread of Islam. Not only in real life, name changes also occur in legends, one of which is in the legend of Nyi Roro Kidul in Palabuhanratu, Sukabumi Regency. The purpose of this study is to show the pattern of name changes that can be used as an indicator of the spread of Islam in Palabuhanratu, Sukabumi Regency. The method used in this study is a qualitative method, with observation and interview techniques. The results of this study found five figures who experienced name changes as part of the spread of Islam in Palabuhanratu, Sukabumi Regency. This change can be interpreted as a form of cleansing or self-purification. She returned to being a holy or virgin figure, as per the concept tazqiyah in Islam, namely self-purification through a spiritual journey which ultimately took her to a higher level, both in the spiritual aspect and her status as Queen of the South Coast.

Abstract

This study discusses Aan Mansyur's digital poem entitled TETAPI, TIDAK uploaded via the Instagram account @apoetographer. The background of this study stems from the phenomenon of poetry that combines literary style and visual elements on Instagram. The purpose of this study is to reveal how literary style as a verbal aspect and visual aspect of poetry resonate. The method used is descriptive qualitative with a stylistic approach by Pradopo (2021). The results show that Aan Mansyur uses language style to emphasise social criticism and moral awareness. The visual element of purple-green colour gradation reinforces the reflective and contemplative atmosphere. The conclusion of this study confirms that Aan Mansyur's digital poetry presents verbal and visual resonance, namely the harmony between the power of language and visual elements that reinforce each other in building an aesthetic experience. This resonance shows the transformation of the function of poetry in the digital era from a mere medium of expression to a reflective, empathetic, and humanistic space that unites words and colours in a single contemporary aesthetic consciousness.

Abstract

This article seeks to examine the intertextual relationship between the Sundanese legend of Nini Anteh and the Chinese legend of Chang’e as a reflection of cultural harmony between the two societies. The research adopts a qualitative approach, using comparative textual analysis grounded in Julia Kristeva’s theory of intertextuality, alongside cultural diffusion theory to explore potential historical links shaped by migration and trade interactions between Sundanese and Chinese communities.  The findings indicate that both legends are connected through the shared motif of “the woman in the moon,” creating a web of cross-cultural meanings. Nini Anteh, associated with her saepi knowledge, and Chang’e, known for her elixir of immortality, are portrayed as female figures who exercise agency over their destinies, undergo isolation as a transformative process, and reflect societal ideals of womanhood within their respective cultures. The similarity in narrative shows a symbolic resonance that reflects a shared cosmological imagination concerning the moon across different cultural traditions. In addition, the Ngabungbang tradition in Sundanese society and Zhōngqiū Jié in Chinese society represent collective respect for the full moon as a symbol of cosmic harmony. This study concludes that the intertextual connection between these two legends not only reveals shared symbolic meanings but also offers potential for their use in enhancing Intercultural Communicative Competence (ICC) through education rooted in local wisdom, ultimately promoting harmonious intercultural dialogue.
