Abstract

Bajakah Tampala extracted with ethanol was indicated to contain phenolic and flavonoids. So far, the ethanol extract of Bajakah Tampala wood has only been analyzed for its antioxidant activity. Whereas flavonoids not only act as antioxidants but also play a role in inhibiting -amylase which is related to antidiabetic properties. The ethanol extract of Bajakah Tampala wood has never been used as a fortificant in honey. The purpose of this study was to determine the levels of phenols, flavonoids, antioxidant activity, and inhibitory activity of -amylase from the ethanol extract of Bajakah Tampala Wood (EEBTW) at various solvent concentrations. In addition, to investigate the effect of adding EEBTW to Kapok honey on its bioactivity. This study was conducted using Post Test Only Group Design that was applied to 1% fortification of the three extracts in Kapok honey. Extraction used three concentrations of ethanol (70%, 80%, and 90%). Parameters tested in the study were total phenol, total flavonoid, antioxidant activity, and % inhibition of -amylase. The result showed the higher the ethanol concentration, the lower the total phenolic, flavonoid, % DPPH scavenging activity, and -amylase inhibition. The addition of 1% EEBKT has synergism with brown honey in increasing phenol, antioxidant activity, and % inhibition of -amylase. EEBTW has the potential as an antidiabetic candidate and Kapok honey with EEBTW has the potential as functional honey

Abstract

This study aims to describe the representation of women's disappointment in the structure of short story texts. The theories used in this study are structural theory by Levi-Strauss and literary sociological theory by Damono with the originator of Ian Watt's theory. This study uses qualitative descriptive method by analyzing the relationship between short stories and social reality. The short story "The Woman Who Marries Her Own Body" was examined through data collection steps: (1) reading the short story "The Woman Who Marries Her Own Body" intensively; (2) analyze interinsic and external elements; (3) describe the representation of women's disappointment in the structure of the short story text. The results of this research by reading, analyzing, and describing the relationship show a representation of Asti's disappointment as the main character in the short story with a structural theory and literary sociology approach that represents the reality of the perpetrators of crimes who have acted criminally on women and minors and this deviation from norms makes the main character represent her trauma and disappointment by marrying her own body.

Abstract

Gatholoco is a figure in Serat Gatholoco, a literary work suspected to be written in the early 19th century. The Gatholoco character is said to have a constellation of desires that presents subversive symptoms, positioning Serat Gatholoco as a controversial text at that time. The aim of this study is to describe the constellation of desires in Serat Gatholoco translation from Damar Shashangka, using the economics perspective of the Lacanian subject. This study used the qualitative interpretive method. The result shows Gatholoco as a sublimation of ideas that become the image-subject in the symbolic register, which is a manifestation of alienation symptoms suppressed in the discourse of the Ruler. Naming as a true-born man declared by Gatholoco is a form of active narcissistic desire, a metonymy that connects identification and desire for Gatholoco’s self-hood. The identity of the naming is the substitution of one marker with the Other. Its word is a paternal metaphor, the substitution of the Father’s name (resistance efforts) for the Mother’s desire (primordial existence). This metaphor offers substantial resistance to the Father’s Law (puritan existence). In the end, the nicknames of Gatholoco are a form of the narcissistic desire of the author.

Abstract

Cocoa farmers in this area were not familiar with post-harvest processing, usually, the cocoa bean was sold directly without any fermentation. This public service objective provides information on good quality control of cocoa plant beans, such as fermentation pH, sorting, and contained water content. Followed to improve the knowledge about fermented cocoa bean's characteristics, especially about fine flavor cocoa (FFC) which has a flavor profile and also several active compounds for healthy. Data collection was carried out by filling out questionnaires from 25 farmer respondents. The results of the service showed that as many as 52% of the respondents have been cocoa farmers for more than 5 years. Most of the cocoa farmers produced more than 500 kg/harvest. Many farmers do not ferment cocoa beans because the fermentation process takes a long time, while farmers want to sell cocoa beans quickly. This causes the selling price of cocoa beans to become low.

Abstract

Sawér Pangantén is a form of Sundanese oral literature that serves as a medium for advice and prayer in wedding ceremonies.  This study aims to reveal the denotative, connotative, and mythical meanings in Sawér Pangantén texts and the cultural values they contain. Previous studies have primarily emphasized the normative function of this tradition and have not positioned sawér as an ideological mechanism that shapes and normalizes social perceptions of marriage. This research employs a qualitative approach using textual analysis based on Roland Barthes’ semiotics. The data consist of a sixteen-stanza Sawér Pangantén text obtained through recorded oral narration from a native informant in Cisewu, Garut Regency, and subsequently transcribed verbatim. The analysis was conducted stanza by stanza by mapping the relationship between signifier and signified (denotation), cultural meaning (connotation), and second-order signification (myth) that naturalizes ideology. The findings reveal four axes of the myth of marriage: the social legitimation of husband-wife status, orientation toward well-being and harmonious prosperity, divine and ancestral legitimation, and an ethic of sacred caution articulated through prayer. At the level of myth, marriage is legitimized as a sacred institution aligned with divine will and accepted as a naturalized social order within Sundanese society.
