Abstract

In response to the Covid-19 pandemic, a touchless portable sink has been developed. This innovative sink allows users to operate it by simply stomping on it with their feet, eliminating the need for hand contact. The implementation of touchless sink technology includes the design and production of touchless sinks, field testing of the equipment, and communication with the community and operators of the Wisata Taman Nggirli in Bantul. The initial phase of this program involves designing a touchless sink by utilizing engineering design programs. The second step proceeded with the manufacturing process, which took place in workshops located inside and outside the campus. Following that, the third phase involves conducting tests on the site and reaching out to the staffs of Taman Nggirli to engage them as users of this device. Participants were socialized through the introduction of touchless sinks, accompanied by an explanation of the distinction between touchless sinks and conventional sinks. Next, the participants are instructed on the operational mechanism of the touchless sink by demonstrating the use of a footrest located beneath the pedal. Finally, a testing of the device was conducted at the Taman Nggirli. Each participant eagerly attempted to use this touchless sink, one after another. Based on this testing, it is evident that the device functions effectively and may be utilized as intended.

Abstract

Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) plastic bottle waste can be recycled into 3D printer filament through pultrusion method. Some previous studies have identified the parameters of PET recycled filament, but have not yet deeply examined the effect of the combination of parameters including the level of roughness. This study aims to evaluate the effects of variations in bed and head temperatures and printing speed on the dimensions of 3D-printed PET filament, to analyze defects, and to assess surface roughness. The results showed that the best products were found at a head temperature of 265°C, a bed temperature of 80°C, and a speed of 35 mm/s. The dominant defects that appeared were under & over-extrusion, weak infill, and layer separation and splitting. Minimal defects were obtained at a head temperature of 265°C and 260°C with a bed temperature of 80°C at a speed of 35 mm/s. The lowest surface roughness results were in class N10, namely Ra = 16.137 µm. This study indicates that optimized parameters produce high quality, making PET a sustainable alternative material.

Abstract

AbstractIn the digital era, Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) face significant challenges in adapting to changes in consumer behavior that require business transformation to remain competitive. As an economic pillar, SMEs' responsiveness to global threats and crises is crucial. However, there are obstacles in utilizing digital technology, exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, which has impacted SME production and revenue, as experienced by CV Ragil Jaya Craft. Interviews with the owner of CV Ragil Jaya Craft revealed that although they have served both domestic and international markets, they still rely on conventional marketing. During the nearly two-year pandemic, its impact was significant on their business, including a decline in demand affecting sales turnover. Mobility restrictions during the pandemic hindered the conventional marketing strategies they relied on, forcing a shift to digital marketing. However, optimizing digital marketing, especially social media, remains a challenge. To address this, the Community Service Team from Janabadra University initiated a training program to strengthen the use of social media. This program includes intensive discussions and training on digital marketing strategies. The evaluation results showed significant improvements: understanding the importance of social media marketing increased from 35% to 80%, and understanding how to choose platforms suitable for the target market rose from 50% to 87%. Meanwhile, training in social media optimization strategies increased understanding from 10% to 60%. This gap highlights the need for further mentoring to ensure the skills acquired can be effectively applied in daily business operations, supporting market expansion and sustainable production capacity enhancement. Keywords: digital transformation; SME challenges; SME training; social media marketing

Abstract

Biomass is the fourth largest renewable energy source in the world, accounting for approximately 10% of the total global primary energy supply. Every year, a large amount of teak wood sawdust is produced from the manufacturing of furniture, beds, wooden decorations, and various other products. This waste has no economic value and requires considerable storage space, causing problems in handling and disposal. Therefore, utilizing this forestry residue for biofuel production is a sustainable and economically beneficial approach. However, the main challenge in its utilization lies in its high ash and inorganic mineral content, which can reduce energy conversion efficiency and the calorific value of the product. This study aims to compare the effectiveness of washing methods using water and acid solutions in reducing ash content and increasing the calorific value of teak wood sawdust. The research was conducted experimentally in a laboratory, involving several stages: material preparation, washing treatment (water and acid), drying, ash content and calorific value analysis, and result evaluation. The treatments were carried out at mass ratios of 1:25, 1:50, and 1:75, washed for 2 hours using a magnetic stirrer, followed by filtration, rinsing to neutral pH, and drying at 105 °C for 6 hours. The results showed that washing with 1 M HCl consistently produced a greater mass reduction of teak wood sawdust compared to deionized water at all ratios, indicating that the acid method is more effective in reducing the inorganic content of biomass.
