Abstract

Abstract. Mathematics communication ability is the ability to present ideas to other people. Mathematics communication ability can be written and verbal. This research aimed to describe the student’s mathematics communication ability in understanding quadrilateral problems. The type of this research is descriptive qualitative research with the subjects of students class VIII SMPN 1 Jember amounted to 9 students who have categorized the ability of mathematics. Methods of data collection in this research are documentation, test and interviews. Based on the average from the test of written mathematics communication ability reinforced by interviews and tests of verbal mathematics communication ability, the ability of students' mathematics communication in understanding the quadrilateral problems are varied.. There are 4 students who have high mathematics communication ability, 2 students who have medium mathematics communication ability and 3 students who have low mathematics communication ability. Students who have high mathematics communication ability are able to fulfill 2-3 indicator of written mathematics communication ability (expressing and understanding mathematical ideas and use mathematical terms/notations) and 2-3 indicator of verbal mathematics communication ability (expressing and understanding mathematical ideas and use mathematical terms/notations). Students who have medium mathematics communication ability are able to fulfill 2 indicators of written mathematics communication ability ( understanding the mathematical ideas even if there are errors and use mathematical term/notations) and 2 indicators of verbal mathematics communication ability (expressing mathematical ideas and understanding mathematical ideas although there are still errors or using mathematical terms/notations). Students who have low mathematics communication ability are able to fulfill 1-2 indicator of written mathematics communication ability (understanding the mathematical ideas even if there are errors and use mathematical terms/notations) and 1 indicator of verbal mathematics communication ability (understanding mathematical ideas or use mathematical terms/notations even if there are errors). Abstract

  Abstract. There are many students who have difficulty in solving math problems. The difficulties caused students mistake in solving problems. The of student’s mistakes consist of the use of computation errors, errors due to a lack of basic knowledge, reduction errors, and another errors. Therefore, the aplication of cooperative learning model with Mind Mapping technic is important to overcome the student’s mistakes in solving the Fraction problems at seven grade SMP Negeri 14 Jember odd semester academic year 2013/2014. This research type is a Classroom Action Research (CAR). The data analysed in this research are student’s activity, student’s mistakes, and effectiveness. The research show that student’s activity attain 66,48% in the first cycle and 71,62% in second cycle, student’s mistakes attain 50,72% in the first cycle and 34,28% in second cycle, and effectiveness attain 33,64% in the first and 60,67% in the second . It can be concluded that the application of cooperative learning model with Mind Mapping technic is effective to overcome student’s mistakes in solving Fraction. Abstract

Abstract. This study aims to determine the process and the result of the study in terms of fractions with RME approach for seventh grade students. This research is research development using modified Thiagarajan, Semmel and Semmel Model. The device developed is learning the lesson plans, student books, student worksheets, and test questions. The subjects were 38 students of class VII D SMP Negeri 14 Jember. The results showed that the learning has been completed criterian effect, is characterized by the fact haigty learned the value of validity. The device also completed practical learning criterian, the fact is characterized by teachers' activities. The device has also been profen effective learning of a percent highty student activity, student achievement master criteria greater than or equal to 80% classical and 75% of students gave positive reactions to this learning. Key Words : Development of Learning Devices, Realistics Mathematics Education.

Abstract

Abstract. The research aims is to know the process and the result of development lesson plan and student worksheets based on CORE (connecting organizing reflecting extending) learning model with technique of mind mapping for curved space topic at ninth grade of junior high school. Learning instruments development model refers to 4D Thiagarajan models which has 4 steps namely define, design, develop, and disseminate. This research has two products namely lesson plan and student worksheets. Based on validation process and tryout, the result shows that the coefficient of validity reachs 0,60, the percentages of teacher’s activities and students’ responses are above 80%, and the percentage of students’ activitie is above 10% - 20%, it can be concluded that the lesson plan and student worksheet had fullfiled the validity, practice, and effective criteria. Abstract

This study aims to describe the profile of problem solving students based on the Polya stages in terms of cognitive style. The problem solving profile is a general description or description of the activities of solving mathematical problems carried out by students using previously acquired knowledge. The description is related to the psychological cognitive style possessed by students. Psychological cognitive style is divided into 2, namely the independent and field dependent cognitive style fields. Analysis of students' answers in the problem of the Two Variable Linear Equation System based on the 4 stages of the Polya consists of understanding the problem, making a plan of completion, implementing the completion plan and checking again. The instruments used were GEFT test, problem solving test, Two Variable Linear Equation System, and interview. The subjects of the study were 6 VIIIE class students at Genteng 2 Public Middle School. In general, field independent students are better at solving problems than field dependent students. Keywords: Cognitive Style, Problem Solving, Polya Stage, Profile.

Abstract

Abstract. The purpose of this research is to describe the writing mathematical communication skills of mild mental retardation students at Jember State SMALB-C solved the problem of addition and subtraction of algebra using algebra paper learning media. The subject used are two students of class x mild mental retardation. Data collection are observation, test and interviews. Observation was carried out during the delivery of the addition and subtraction material of algebra and introducing learning media and giving practice questions. The question of test is algebra addition and subtraction as much as three reserved description and interview to each subject. The result of this research shows that subject has fulfilled of the indicators of NCTM's mathematical communication skills except sub indicator c in question number 2, because the student did not explain the algebra paper learning media attached to the answer sheet and do not write conclusions. In interview, the subject stated that using algebra paper learning media can help and simplify the problem of completing the addition and subtraction of algebra. Book thatwere analyzedin this studytitledMathematicsForJuniorHighSchoolGradeVIII 1stSemester(Bilingual).The result of data analysis method shown the suitability ofthe mathematical content is very well withthe percentage of88.33%, the suitability ofthe teaching methods is enough withthe percentage of54,29%, the suitability ofthe physical characteristics is very well withthe percentage of 90,91%, and the suitability of teacher aids is enough withthe percentage 47,37% . Abstract

Abstract. PBI (Problem Based Instrustion) is a Learning Model that focused on the students mind set and activity in the learn process. The purpose of the study are to describe the process and result in the Development of Mathematics Learning Materials PBI nuanced of Pythagoras Theorem topic for Eight Grade Junior High School. The development model refers to 4D Thiagarajan models which has 4 steps are define, design, developt, and disseminate.The result of thisresearchare lesson plan, worksheet, student book, evaluation test. From the validationsource and the trial of the learning sets can be concluded that the learning sets had been appropriate with validate, practice, and effective criteria. Abstract

The problem-solving profile is a general description of the activities of solving mathematical problems carried out by students using the five stages of IDEAL model problem solving namely identifying problems, defining problems, finding solutions, implementing strategies, and reviewing and evaluating their effects. This becomes interesting when it is associated with mathematical abilities. This study aims to describe the profile of students with high mathematical ability in solving questions about the subject of Social Arithmetic. This type of research is qualitative research. Students with high mathematical ability were given two problem-solving test questions, then interviews were conducted to find out more in the process of solving them. The results obtained are students with high mathematical ability able to meet all the indicators of each stage of solving the IDEAL model. This can be seen from the results of the work provided and interviews conducted by researchers against these students.

Abstract

This study to describe the understanding of students 'concepts on problem solving about the geometry of the quadrilateral subject matter in terms of the students' impulsive reflective cognitive style in SMP Negeri 7 Jember. The descriptions of this study were carried out by providing an overview of reflective cognitive-style students and students with impulsive cognitive styles. Based on the results of data analysis and discussion, students with reflective cognitive style are able to understand the problem, plan the settlement, solve the problem, and correct it again. As for impulsive students not understanding the problem, unable to plan the settlement, unable to solve the problem, and unable to correct again.
