Abstract

This research is entitled Courage In Harper Lee’s To Kill A Mockingbird. The aim of this study is to find out the courage in the novel. Objective approach is applied in analysing the data to find out the courage in the novel. Qualitative research is descriptive. The data collected are in the form of words and pictures rather than numbers. The objective approach is applied because the analysis only focused on the novel itself. The results showed that the portrait of courage is detected through the reflections of the way that Atticus dare to defend blacks, and Atticus' attitude and actions who worked diligently and painstakingly to prove Tom Robinson's accusations untrue, This novel tries to demonstrate how the world and the people in it live a harmonious life together, through basic moral attitudes and actions, namely treating others with respect and kindness.

Abstract

This investigation focuses on Agnez Mo's statements. The researchers employ the descriptive approach to conduct this study. Researchers employ the documentation approach to obtain data. Hoffman's theory, included intra-sentential code mixing, intra-lexical code mixing, and pronunciation modification, is used to examine the data. After evaluating the video, the researchers come up with a total of 87 data. The most common category is intra-sentential, which accounts for 73 % of all data, followed by intra-lexical, which accounts for 14 % of all data, and finally, change pronunciation, which accounts for just 1 % of all data. Agnez Mo employs code-mixing for four reasons, according to the researchers: talking about a specific issue, being enthusiastic about something, interjection, and displaying group identification. The majority of the evidence shows that the parts of speech are nouns.

Abstract

This research aimed to describe students’ perception of the use of YouTube in English translation classes. In conducting this research, the researcher used a questionnaire and the result was presented descriptively. The researcher analyzed the data according to three indicators such as accuracy, acceptability, and readability. Accuracy refers to whether the meaning of the source language is similar to the target language. The term acceptability refers to whether or not the translation has been revealed according to the target language rules, norms, or cultures. The readability deals with how natural and easy a translation can be read by the target readers. For the first indicator's accuracy, according to data analysis, it can be analyzed that the students choose 60% agree, 20% strongly agree, 17% choose neutral and 3% disagree. For the second indicator acceptability, 56% Agree, 27% Strongly agree, 16% neutral and 1% disagree. For the last indicator readability, 56 % agree, 30% strongly agree, 13% neutral and 1% choose to disagree. Based on this research, the researcher concluded that students’ perception of the use of youtube in English translation class was needed to help them understand the translation and learning process.

Abstract

This research aimed to identify or found the value of character education revealed in the movie “Freedom Writers” directed by Richard Lagravense. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method and uses content analysis to analyze the data. The sources of data are taken from the movie “Freedom Writers” directed by Richard Lagravense and other documents such as journals, books, or articles related to the research from the analysis of the movie there is a value of honesty as a learning behavior in an effort to make someone trustworthy even in words, actions, and work. Tolerance refers to mutual respect for one another. The value of curiosity shows how they know more about something. The creative value is about having new ideas to achieve new things and the peace-loving value described attitudes and actions that are useful in social peace and mutual respect. The values ​​of honesty, tolerance, curiosity, creativity, and peace-loving are reflected in the students. Through the attitude of a teacher named Erin Gruwell, she can change the way students think from not looking at and gang violence, looking at religion, race, ethnicity, region border and looking at color differences because with her fortitude, she guides the characterless students to become a good character and want to achieve their future. It can be concluded that watching the movie “Freedom Writers” directed by Richard Lagravense can increase the character education of students.

Abstract

This study investigates teachers’ perspective toward autonomous learning in the context of English language learning in the current era.  As a mixed research method then analyzing the collected data, it  exposed that teachers’ perceptions on learning autonomy is low due to many of whom believed that their learners are still reluctant to take control of their study. It further indicated that, during thisCovid-19  pandemic,  a learning autonomy may not be applicable in all context particularly within which school’s facility such as computer library and book library are limited or even not provided.  This study concluded that learning autonomy practice is situational.

Abstract

ABSTRAKPotensi kehadiran wisatawan asing dalam suatu destinasi wisata belum dapat dimanfaatkan secara optimal akibat kurangnya kemampuan berkomunikasi berbahasa Inggris para pengelola yang meliputi pemandu wisata,  pedagang, penyedia jasa kuliner,  jasa foto,  jasa parkir,  dan aktivitas lainnya. Permasalahan ini dihadapi oleh para pelaku usaha pariwisata di Bukit Kasih Kanonang Kecamatan Kawangkoan kabupaten Minahasa yakni rendahnya penguasaan bahasa Inggris mencakup percakapan sederhana sehubungan dengan pekerjaan yang dilakukan, serta penguasaan tata bahasa dan percakapan dasar. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan memberdayakan  pelaku wisata di kawasan wisata Bukit Kasih Kanonang melalui peningkatan kemampuan berbahasa Inggris Menjawab permasahan yang dihadapi, kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat melakaksanakan langkah penyelesaian masalah dengan melakukan sosialisasi dan pelatihan kemampuan bajasa Inggris dalam konteks peran dan fungsi serta wawasan pelaku usaha pariwisata. Kegiatan yang dilaksanakan dalam bentuk workshop dan pelatihan ini menyajikan materi Bahasa Inggris terkait dengan  peran dan fungsi pengelola kawasan wisata serta pengetahuan tentang tata cara berinteraksi dengan pengunjung baik lokal maupun mancananegara. Hasilnya menunjukkan bahwa kegiatan ini berdampak pada peningkatan pemahaman dan wawasan dari kelompok mitra dalam melayani dan berinteraksi dengan wisatawan mancanegara dan munculnya dorongan untuk mengembangkan produk layanan berupa pembuatan pamlet Bukit Kasih. Dengan demikian harapan akan terjadinya peningkatan layanan jasa pemandu wisata dan peningkatan pendapatan kelompok mitra dapat diwujudkan. Sebagai refleksi, kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat serupa perlu dilakukan kembali dengan melibatkan lebih banyak mitra dan lebih intensif untuk mempercepat peningkatan dan perluasan layanan jasa kepariwisataan di kawasan Bukit Kasih Kanonang Minahasa.ABSTRACTThe potential visit of foreign tourists to a tourist destination cannot be benefited optimally due to the lack of English communication skills of the tourism doers, including tour guides, traders, culinary service providers, photo services, parking services, and other activities. Such problems are faced by tourism business actors in Bukit Kasih Kanonang, Kawangkoan District, Minahasa Regency, namely the low mastery of English, including simple conversations related to the work being done and mastery of grammar and basic conversation. Thus, this community service activity aims to empower tourism actors in the Bukit Kasih Kanonang tourist area through improving English language skills. In the intention to respond to the problems, this community service activity takes some steps for problem-solving by conducting socialization and training English skills in the context of roles and functions and insight into business actors. Tourist. The activities carried out in workshops and training present English language materials related to the roles and functions of tourism area managers and knowledge about how to interact with visitors both locally and abroad. The results show that this activity impacts understanding and insight from partner groups in serving and interacting with foreign tourists and the emergence of an impetus to develop service products by making Bukit Kasih pamphlets. Thus, the expectation of an increase in tour guide services and an increase in the income of partner groups can be realized

Abstract

To reveals the self-defense of Ronnie Miller in Nicholas Sparks The Last Song. In this research the writer used qualitative method in analyzing the novel. It means that, this research does not deal with numbers or diagrams as in quantitative research. This research uses the theory of Sigmund Freud's Psychoanalysis. which states that psychics is a literary theory that examines the psychological elements of the characters in literature. the researcher concludes that there are threemain characters of self-defense reflected from Ronnie Miller as a daughter in her family and major character in this novel. Those are: Have a sense of Concern over hatred, recover quickly from difficulties and toughness and have a strong determination, Self-defense is an act of defend ourselves from obstacles, challenges and problems and take those parts as self-improvement, related with the novel it is against the negative impact waftre her parents divorced. Finally, the researcher concludes that Ronnnie MillerThe Last Song as a broken home child could be faced by self-defense and inner powerto survive from her condition eventough sometimes she faced many problems which is impact from her family condition.

Abstract

This research is intended to reveal how a character named James Durie can demonstrate what ambition and causes it. The study uses qualitative research methods. The study also employes a psychological approach and employed the Ludwig Klages the psychological theory of personality and supporting theory about ambitions by Widarso to explain and support the study on an ambition met by a character named James Durie in The Master of Ballantrae: A Winter’s Tale novel. This study suggests that James Durie, as a character capable of meeting all the criteria of his ambition ranging physiological needs, love, honor, position, property and all that he desires must manifest so that, as can be seen by the characteristics of ambitious people in one’s own self-interest, it can be deduced from this study that James Durie or The Master of Ballantrae had the ambition reflected in this novel.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the intelligence quality revealed in Veronica Roth's Allegiant. The author conducted this study using qualitative research based on Lincoln, and the data collection used two ways: Primary sources and secondary sources. The primary data collection was from the novel, and secondary data collection used references from articles, journals, books, and the internet. In analyzing the data, the author used a reader-response approach based on Cagri Tugrul Mart. The results of this study showed that Tris, the main character, used her intelligence qualities against the leader of the city of Chicago, Evelyn, and the leader of the Genetic Welfare Bureau, David. When Evelyn became the new city leader, the people expected her could stop the disputes between factions. However, Evelyn used her power for other purposes. Tris felt she had to do something to stop Evelyn from her act of cruelty that ruled over the city by unilateral decisions. In the end, they successfully stopped David and saved the city of Chicago

Abstract

This study aims to find forms of strengthening women's social capital trust in small industrial enterprises (UIK). Strengthening social capital trust should be an important capital in small industrial business activities involving women who are the pillars of the family economy. This study uses a qualitative research method through a case study at UIK Kacang tore. The data collection technique used triangulation in the form of observation, interviews and documentation. In the data analysis using the Spradley step-forward model. The results found in the field are various forms of strengthening social capital trust, which can be seen in: (1) Increasing self-confidence through increasing human resources (2) Maintaining honesty (3) Having high integrity (4) Loyalty (5) Firm and tenacious in decision making ( 6) build communication with the environment and (7) be responsible. The role of trust in social capital is a reinforcement for the progress of small industrial businesses to survive in the midst of the increasingly stringent onslaught of modern large business products. This is also a recommendation for Indonesian women to remain a mainstay for family economic resilience. Because women have a strong ideal capital resources.
