Abstract

Objective: Evaluating the pain scale of circumcision patients under lidocaine hydrochloride local anesthesia. Material & Methods: An observational descriptive research was carried out on 30 children with a body weight of 20-29 kilograms from February 2023-April 2023. Circumcision was performed under 2 ampoules of 2% lidocaine as local anesthesia. Data consisted of pain onset measure using a stopwatch and the pain scale were obtained through the Wong-Baker Face Pain Rating Scale (WBFPRS), these variables were recorded when pain occurs post-local anesthesia effects ends. Results: The average onset of pain is 47.73 minutes with the fastest onset of pain was 20 minutes and the longest onset of pain was 72 minutes. The average pain scale as measured by the WBFPRS is 2.33. Conclusion: The average pain scale in this study was less than 3 which indicated that the pain felt did not interfere with activities. Keywords: Circumcision, pain, anesthesia, lidocaine.

Abstract

Objective: Find out the correlation of catheter use duration with the incidence of overactive bladder symptoms (OABS) post Transurethral Resection of The Prostate (TURP) in patients with urinary retention due to Benign Prostate Hyperplasia (BPH). Material & Methods: An observational analytical research correlation with a cohort approach was carried out on 29 patients with urinary retention due to BPH post TURP in five hospitals in Padang from January 2019 to August 2019. Data collected included the characteristics and duration of catheter use, which were obtained through interviews using questionnaires, while those of OABS were obtained based on the total score by using the overactive bladder symptoms score (OABSS) standard questionnaire. Results: The average duration of catheter use was 14.9 ± 8.0 days, and the average total OABSS score was 4.7 ± 2.5. Bivariate analysis results showed a positive correlation with a weak strength between the duration of catheter use and the total OABSS score (Pearson’s correlation, r = 0.396, p = 0.033). Conclusion: It is necessary to shorten the duration of catheter use to decrease the incidence and severity of OABS in patients with urinary retention due to BPH post TURP. Keywords: Benign Prostate Hyperplasia, duration of catheter use, overactive bladder, urinary retention.

Abstract

Background The aging process results in physiological changes in the body, such as decreased muscle strength and impaired balance, so that the risk of falls, injury and dependency increases in the elderly. Changes in the nutritional status of the elderly who tend to be predominantly underweight also occur due to the aging process and have an impact on the muscle strength of the elderly in the long term. This study aims to determine the relationship between BMI and hand grip strength in the elderly at PSTW Sabai Nan Aluih Sicincin. Methods This study is an analytical and secondary research with a cross-sectional design, involving 62 elderly individuals from PSTW Sabai Nan Aluih Sicincin as the population. All population members meeting the inclusion criteria and excluding outliers were considered as the research sample. The inclusion criteria encompassed complete data such as BMI, handgrip strength, age, weight, knee height, and gender. Two outlier samples were excluded based on the exclusion criteria. Bivariate data analysis utilized the Chi-square statistical test. Results The research findings indicate that most elderly women at PSTW Sabai Nan Aluih Sicincin have normal to overweight BMI, while elderly men have underweight BMI. Elderly women at PSTW Sabai Nan Aluih Sicincin exhibit abnormal handgrip strength, whereas elderly men have normal handgrip strength. Furthermore, there is no significant relationship (p=0.676) between BMI and handgrip strength values among the elderly at PSTW Sabai Nan Aluih Sicincin. Conclusions This study concluded that there was no significant relationship between BMI and hand grip strength scores in the elderly at PSTW Sabai Nan Aluih Sicincin.
