Abstract

Dragon scale (Drymoglossum piloselloides) leaf is a plant that contains secondary metabolites with antioxidant potential. This plant is known for its easy to grow nature and has a wide habitat distribution. The extraction method using acetone solvent has been proven effective in extracting secondary metabolites from this plant. To improve the extraction efficiency, this study used an optimization approach using the Central Composite Design (CCD) method. CCD involves three main factors in extraction experiments, namely solvent concentration, extraction time, and extraction temperature. Experiments were conducted with variations of these factors to find the optimal extraction conditions. The results of CCD method showed that the solvent concentration of 70%, extraction temperature at 52°C, and extraction time of 60 minutes. Statistical analysis showed that the model used was significant, with an F-value of 9.20 and a P-value less than 0.01159, indicating that the factors tested had a significant effect on the extraction results. The results of this study have great potential in maximizing the use of dragon scale leaves as a source of antioxidant secondary metabolites.

Abstract

Bacterial infection is a major cause of chronic infection and death that continues to threath public health worldwide. Improper use of antibiotics can cause pathogenic bacteria to become resistant to antibiotics and have side effects, so alternative sources of antibiotics from natural ingredients are needed. One type of plant that is efficacious as an antibacterial is jarak pagar leaves (Jatropha curcas). This study aims to examine the phytochemical content qualitatively using the tube method and the antibacterial activity of the ethyl acetate fraction of jarak pagar leaves using the disc diffusion method. Extraction of jarak pagar leaves by maceration method with 96% ethanol then fractionated with ethyl acetate. Data on the diameter of the inhibition zone in the antibacterial test were analyzed using the non-parametric test, namely the Kruskal Wallis test. The analysis was continued with Mann Whitney's post hoc with a confidence level (pvalue<0.05). Based on the results of the phytochemical test obtained alkaloids, saponins, flavonoids, polyphenols and tannins. The antibacterial activity of the ethyl acetate fraction of jarak pagar leaves at a concentration of 8 mg/mL showed an inhibition zone of 19.73±0.25 mm which was included in the very moderate category and weakly inhibited at a concentration of 0.5 mg/mL which was 4.87±0.31 mm and the results of statistical tests showed that the ethyl acetate fraction of jarak pagar leaves had antibacterial activity and each concentration had a significant effect on inhibiting the growth of S. aureus.

Abstract

The Community Service Program was carried out at the Harapan Farmers Group, Kereng Bangkirai Sub-district, Palangka Raya City, as an effort to provide innovative solutions to pest attack problems that often reduced fruit farm productivity. Previously, farmers had relied on manual pesticide spraying, which required considerable time, labor, and cost, and posed health risks. To address this challenge, the service team from the University of Palangka Raya developed an automated pest control system that was able to regulate pesticide spraying independently and efficiently. The activities were conducted through stages of socialization, training, and system mapping of automation in the fruit farm area, involving members of the farmers group actively. The implementation results showed an increase in participants’ understanding of the technology by 30–40 percent, improved efficiency in pesticide use by up to one-third compared to manual methods, and a reduction in working time by nearly 50 percent. This activity not only improved farmers’ skills and productivity but also served as a concrete step toward the implementation of sustainable smart farming in Palangka Raya through collaboration between the university and the community.
