Abstract

Speaking skills are crucial for students to face academic and professional demands in the global era; however, low self-confidence and difficulties in delivering ideas systematically remain prevalent. This community service activity aims to enhance students' communication competence through the "Speak with Confidence" training program. Involving 50 students, the program was implemented using an andragogical approach and experiential learning, comprising needs assessment, interactive material delivery, simulations, role-play, and comprehensive evaluation using pre-tests, post-tests, performance observation, and satisfaction surveys. The results indicated significant improvements in both knowledge and skills. Conceptual understanding increased by 26.25%, while practical speaking skills improved by 27.16%, with the most notable increase in self-confidence (35%). Furthermore, participant satisfaction reached 92.4%. These findings demonstrate that a practice-oriented andragogical approach effectively reduces psychological barriers and builds students' communication competence, strategically preparing adaptable and competitive graduates for the professional world.

Abstract

Language serves as a symbolic system used by humans to communicate, express thoughts and emotions, and convey information. In the era of digital technology, social media has become an interactive space that fosters the emergence and development of new forms of language, one of which is slang. This study aims to describe the forms, functions, and meanings of slang variations found in the comment sections of YouTube channels owned by @DeddyCorbuzier and @DennySumargo. The research employs a descriptive qualitative method, using documentation and observation techniques to collect user comments from January 1 to March 31, 2025. The findings reveal that the forms of slang identified include acronyms, abbreviations, phonetic spellings, borrowings from foreign languages, and the creation of new lexical items. The primary functions of slang use involve emotional expression, social critique, group identity markers, and communicative efficiency. Semantically, slang often undergoes symbolic shifts or takes on metaphorical meanings, depending on the user's social context. Slang in social media reflects the dynamic nature of language and embodies the identity and cultural practices of digital communitie

Abstract

This study aims to comparatively analyze the types and functions of directive speech acts employed by male and female pre-service Indonesian language teachers within classroom management contexts at the primary education level. Utilizing a qualitative case study design, data were derived from transcribed teaching practice videos documented on YouTube and subsequently validated by experts in applied linguistics. Data analysis followed the interactive model proposed by Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña. The findings reveal distinct gender-based patterns: male pre-service teachers predominantly utilize instructive-focused directives characterized by directness and procedural clarity to establish classroom structure and authority. Conversely, female pre-service teachers more frequently employ persuasive, collaborative, and mitigative strategies (involvement-focused), leveraging positive politeness markers to foster voluntary student participation. These patterns illustrate how gender identity shapes the exercise of linguistic authority in primary classroom dynamics. The study concludes that effective classroom management does not rely on a singular communicative style but rather on teachers’ pragmatic flexibility in balancing instructional firmness with interpersonal sensitivity.

Abstract

Abstract

This study examined students’ perceptions of digital technology integration in literature learning, focusing on their interest in reading digital literature, the influence of social media, the use of digital literature applications, technology-supported learning experiences, and understanding of literature through digital content. The study employed a descriptive quantitative design using a survey approach. Data were collected through a questionnaire with 30 statements organized into five indicators, rated on a five-point response scale. The responses were analyzed using descriptive statistics to identify patterns across the measured dimensions. The findings revealed generally favorable perceptions of digital technology in literature learning. Students regarded digital content as particularly helpful in understanding literary works and reported positive experiences with technology-supported activities and social media. However, their engagement with applications specifically designed for literary reading was comparatively limited. These findings suggest that students are more familiar with general digital platforms than with specialized literature applications. Digital technology can enrich literature learning when teachers connect it with purposeful reading, discussion, interpretation, and creative-response activities. Teacher guidance, equitable access, and appropriate instructional design remain essential to ensuring meaningful and inclusive implementation.
