Abstract

Timor pig (Sus scrofa domesticus) is classified as one of local Indonesia pigs breed of Sus scrofa. Salivary glands had huge contribution to the digestive system. This research aimed to identify the gross anatomy and histomorphology of the parotid and mandibular glands in Timor pigs. Five samples were taken from Atambua slaughter house. Observation of gross anatomy were carried out directed in slaughter house. Then, the glands were fixated in 10% formalin and stained with HE. The results showed the parotid gland was located on the ventral of the auricle and stretched superficially along the caudal masseter muscle to the caudal of the lower jaw. The parotid gland had brown triangle-shape lobules. The mandibular gland was located in the caudal of the lower jaw or profundus of the parotid gland and had pinkish irregular-shape with rounded edges. The asinar cells of the parotid gland were dominated by serous acini with pyramid-like cells. Serous cells were round-shaped in center of cell membrane. Other serous cells called special serous cells were round-shaped pressed into basal of cell membrane. The asinar cells of the mandibular gland were dominated by mucous acini and discovered serous acini and serous demilune. Pyramid-like mucous cells had flat nucleus in basal of cell membrane. Pyramid-like serous cells had round nucleus in center of cell membrane. Serous cell that arranged in peripheral mucous acini will form into serous demilune. The ducts on the parotid and mandibular glands comprised of the intercalated ducts, the striated ducts and the excretory ducts.

Abstract

The demand for kacang goat (Capra aegagrus hircus)in Kupang City is very high in the local market, especially before the sacrificial festival. Although the goat population growth is high, there are several reasons that cause low productivity, namely parasitic infection.worms Taenia infect carnivores (as well as humans) as the definitive host and involve an intermediate host which will develop into a cysticercus. The purpose of this study was to determine the anatomical pathology and histopathology of the visceral organs of kacang goats infected with cysticercus. This study used 6 samples of visceral organs of kacang goats consisting of 4 liver organs, 1 rumen organ and 1 colon organ from 6 kacang goats infected with cysticercus, in Pasir Panjang Village, Kupang City. Macroscopic observations, tissue fixation in 10% formalin, tissue processing and HE staining were carried out. The results of the study on liver organs infected with cysticerci showed pathological changes in the form of fibrosis, while in the rumen and colon only cysticerci were formed. Histopathological changes in the liver organs of kacang goat infected with cysticercus in the form of mononuclear and polymorphonuclear inflammatory cell infiltration, necrosis, congestion, hemorrhage, hydropic degeneration, widening of sinusoids and fibrous tissue. Meanwhile, changes that occur in the rumen and colon organs are in the form of infiltration of mild inflammatory cells.

Abstract

Sumba ongole (Bos indicus) is one of the Indonesian local cattle breeds that has a high number of carcasses and good adaptability to the dry climate and low humidity on the island of Sumba. Cattle have a forestomach consisting of the rumen, reticulum, and omasum, which functions to ferment and absorb nutrition. This study aims to determine the distribution of acid carbohydrates in the rumen, reticulum, and omasum of sumba ongole cattle. Six samples of the rumen, reticulum, and omasum were collected from East Sumba Slaughter House, fixed in formalin 10 %, processed histologically, and continued with alcian blue (AB) staining. The result showed the various/different intensity of acid carbohydrates in each of the tunica of the rumen, reticulum, and omasum. The distribution is mostly found in the stratum corneum lamina epithelium. The results of this study indicate that the stratum corneum is the layer that is more frequently exposed to food that requires acid carbohydrates in its function to protect the forestomach as well as to lubricate the food to make it easier to digest.

Abstract

African Swine Fever (ASF) is a viral disease that attacks pigs and to date has caused many pig deaths in Kupang Regency. ASF is caused by a double-stranded DNA virus from the Asfivirus genus and the Asfarviridae family. This research aims to determine the anatomical pathology of the swine landrace suspect ASF. Organ samples were collected from two male landrace pigs and two female landrace pigs, aged 7 months, from Oeltuah Village, Taebenu District and Tarus Village, Central Kupang District, Kupang Regency, NTT. Clinical examinations were carried out on sick animals that were found during the investigation, then necropsied on the dead animals were carried out and continued with anatomical pathology examinations at the Pathology Laboratory, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Nusa Cendana University. Anatomical pathology examinations are carried out by observing changes in the structure and appearance of the organs. The necropsy results showed sub-cutaneous ecchymosis hemorrhage in the abdomen, limbs and ears, gastric, intestinal and hepatic hemorrhage, hemorrhagic lymphadenitis in mesenteric lymph nodes, hyperemic splenomegaly, pteckie hemorrhage in the renal capsule,, multifocal hemorrhage in the renal medulla and pulmonary lobe. Based on the observation of clinical symptoms and changes in anatomical pathology, it can be concluded that the death of pigs was suspected to be caused by the suspect ASF.

Abstract

Sumba Ongole cattle (Bos indicus) is a superior livestock commodity in East Nusa Tenggara Province, especially on the island of Sumba. Cattle have a forestomach consisting of the rumen, reticulum, and omasum. This forestomach plays an important role in carbohydrate fermentation. This study aims to determine the distribution of neutral carbohydrates in the forestomach of Sumba Ongole cattle. Six samples of the rumen, reticulum, and omasum were collected from East Sumba Slaughter House. The tissue was fixed in formalin 10 %, continued with processed histologically and PAS staining. The result showed that neutral carbohydrates distributed in the tunica mucosa and tunica muscularis rumen, reticulum, and omasum with a weak (+) to strong (+++) reaction intensity staining. The factors that influence the difference in color intensity in each tunica of the rumen, reticulum, and omasum are related to the function and mucus secretion of each cell.

Abstract

Testis is the male reproductive organ that performs both endocrine and exocrine functions. This study aimed to determine the distribution of carbohydrates in the testis of sumba ongole cattle. The sample consisted of six testis were collected from East Sumba Slaughter House, fixed in formalin 10 %, processed histologically, and continued with AB pH 2,5 - PAS staining. The result showed a weak alcian blue intensity (+) in the tunica albuginea and moderate intensity (++) in the interstitial connective tissue, basement membrane, and connective tissue in the lumen of the seminiferous tubules. A strong intensity (+++) to PAS staining was seen in spermatogonia, spermatocytes, and myoid cells. Spermatids, spermatozoa, and sertoli cells showed a negative reaction (-). In the intertubular area, Leydig cells and fibroblasts showed a strong PAS reaction (+++), connective tissue showed a moderate reaction (++). The intensity of the weak reaction (+) is indicated by the basement membrane of the seminiferous tubules. The variation in the distribution of acidic and neutral carbohydrates in the testis of sumba ongole cattle is correlated with the proliferation of different cell types and steroidogenic activity at various stages of testicular development.
