Abstract

The supercapacitor electrode has been synthesized using activated carbon from cocoa pods. Activated carbon was prepared by first drying the raw materials under the sunlight and followed by oven drying, pre-carbonization, milling, sieving, and chemical activation with 0.3 M and 0.4 M KOH solution. After chemical activation, the activated carbon was printed into pellet form, carbonized at a temperature of 600 °C, followed by physical activation at a temperature of 700 °C for four hours before polishing. We found that the optimum conditions are 700 °C and 0.4 M. The density of the obtained carbon electrode is 0.810 g/cm3. The SEM micrographs show the formation of pores with a diameter of 0.44 μm and 0.98 μm. The carbon content in the electrode sample measured using electron dispersive spectroscopy is 91.49%. The XRD data shows that the carbon electrode is amorphous with a diffraction angle (2θ) at 23.569° and 44.781°. The optimum specific capacitance of the supercapacitor is 140.2 F/g obtained for the sample activated for 2.5 hours.

Abstract

Press Tool is designed to be able to make mass and uniform products in a relatively short time. One of the products that can be produced using a press tool is the supporting component of the pantograph jack. Pantograph jacks are used in the automotive industry. The need for this product increases along with the increasing demand for motorized vehicles, especially cars. The production stages of supporting components using a press tool include: trim stop, piercing, notching, bending, cropping and deep drawing. Press tool design methods include: determining the design and supporting dimensions, calculation, simulation, and analysis using solidworks simulation analysis. The thickness of the plate that is safe to use for the manufacture of supports is 3 mm with ST 37 material. The planning dimensions of the press tool are (320 x 250 x 217) mm. Press tool components include: shank, punch, dies, top plate, bottom plate, pressure plate, punch holder, stripper plate, guide pillar, guide bush, bolt, and guide pen. The materials used to make press tool components include: ST 37, ST 42, brass, HASCO standard, AISI standard, and Polman Bandung standard. The total force that occurs in the manufacture of supports is 442798.2 N.

Abstract

Welding (Welding) is an activity of connecting metals by going through the metal's liquid phase before finally solidifying and creating a connection. Welding techniques are increasingly widely used in building construction and machine construction. In addition to connecting metals, welding also has a function as a cutting medium. Welding and cutting is a job that requires accuracy. Welding work without tools will result in inaccurate results, so it requires an expert welder to get the desired results. The purpose of this research is to make a plate cutting tool called the Welding Fixture Table. This tool is used to help hold the workpiece in the form of a plate so that the cutting process is easy. This tool has the ability to clamp a maximum plate with a thickness of 6 mm of 750 mm x 610 mm with a weight of 21.6 Kg and can be adjusted to a smaller size, equipped with a sliding shift system on the table top to adjust the size of the workpiece clamping, as well as a system rotation which will make it easier for the operator to select the desired welding or cutting position.

Abstract

Currently, the technology for supplying water is still mostly using pumps with electric motor drives. Most of these pumps are dependent on electrical energy or fuel oil as the pump driving energy. One of the technologies being developed is the hydraulic ram pump. The hydraulic ram works on the water hammer principle. When the fluid flow is stopped suddenly, the change in momentum of the fluid mass will increase the pressure suddenly. This increased pressure is used to lift some of the water to higher ground. So a hydraulic ram pump is designed that uses the potential energy of water as its driving force. In designing the hydraulic ram pump that the author did, using a variation of the height of the air tube with a height of 100 cm, 80 cm and 60 cm with a diameter of 3 inches and an outlet pipe diameter of inch with a water source height of 0.5 m. From the experiment, the maximum pump discharge was obtained on an air tube with a height of 100 cm with a discharge of 0.010309 L/s.

Abstract

Plants grown in pots continue to grow year after year. A flower pot support or flower pot stand is required to add aesthetic value and save space. The purpose of this research is to develop a steel rotary bending machine design for flower pot stand applications The method used is to calculate the rotational speed of the bending mall, design the transmission, calculate the power and capacity of the machine, calculate and analyze the frame strength, and produce machine design results. The design produces a mall bending rotation of 4.5 rpm with diameters of 100 mm, 120 mm, and 150 mm, an electric motor with a rotation speed of 2840 rpm and a power of 1 HP, 4 pulleys and 2 types A V-belts, a shaft diameter of 20 mm and a 6 x 6 mm key, UCP and UCF type bearings, conical gears with a reduction of 10:16, a gearbox with a reduction of 1:40. The required power is 146 watt (0,2 horsepower), and the engine capacity is 243 bends per hour. The engine frame has dimensions of 750 x 550 x 1000 mm and is made of AISI 1045 material. The highest stress that occurs in the frame is 45.55 N/mm2.

Abstract

The hydroxyapatite (HA) layer on the surface of the implant material tends to crack during the sintering process for layer densification. This causes the process of implant union with bone (osseointegration) does not function perfectly in the human body. This study aims to reduce cracking by increasing the adhesion of the HA layer on the surface of the Ti-6Al-4V Extra Low Intertitial (ELI) implant material. The research used the dip coating method to get a thin and even layer. To strengthen the adhesion of the coating, Zirconium Oxide (ZrO2) was added in commercial HA suspension. The test specimens were heated at sintering temperatures of 800 0C, 900 0C and 950 0C with a heating rate of 5 0C /minute. Layer morphology and cracks were seen using an optical microscope. The percentage of layer cracks will be measured using ImageJ software. The results obtained, the addition of ZrO2 can reduce cracks in the HA layer of the surface of the test specimen. The percentage of cracks decrease with the addition of ZrO2 (17% and 20% weight) to the suspension of the HA layer. These result is certainly good for increasing osseointegration in the human body.

Abstract

Community service has been carried out by a team from the Padang State Polytechnic. This activity was carried out due to concerns about the large amount of inorganic household waste that had accumulated in the Guguak Malintang sub-district, Padang Panjang Timur sub- district, which had not been processed, making members of the Sakinah waste bank in the sub-district want to process it into useful materials. This desire was responded directly by the service team from the Padang State Polytechnic, so that cooperation was established in the form of a partnership. The purpose of the activity is to contribute to the application of science and technology in carrying out the tri dharma of higher education, namely the third dharma of community service. The activity took place thanks to the collaboration of the community service team from the Padang State Polytechnic with the Sakinah waste bank which is a partner. This plastic waste recycling training aims to enable participants to have the skills and entrepreneurial spirit resulting from plastic waste recycling. The method used in this activity is first to socialize about the importance of waste management, and to continue the practice of making various souvenirs from plastic waste. During the socialization, the waste bank members and community members who attended were very enthusiastic to listen to it, even the participants wanted to practice directly. It is hoped that by holding the skills to make various souvenirs of plastic waste, the environment will be maintained and the accumulation of plastic waste will not occur. The resulting souvenirs can not only be sold to increase family income, but also reduce the amount of plastic waste that is difficult to decompose.

Abstract

The problem faced by partners today is the low technology used in the patchouli oil refining process. The distillation system equipment used is still simple, the tubes are made of used drums and are easy to rust. This service aims to make a patchouli oil distillation device whose tube is made of stainless steel and to test the tool. The implementation begins with a field survey by conducting discussions related to partner problems and the solutions provided. The manufacturing process is carried out in three stages of activity, namely tool design, tool manufacture, and tool testing. The manufacture is carried out in a workshop located in Sungai Sapih, Kuranji Padang. While the test was carried out in a patchouli plantation located in Lubuk Minturun, Padang. The results show that using a tube made of stainless steel produces patchouli oil cleaner than used drum. Therefore the Mitra does not screen after the distillation process. The process of production becomes effective and efficient.

Abstract

To maximize the function of the mosque as a place of worship, a community service team has carried out together in the form of counseling and donations. This is done because mosques have a very strategic function in Islamic society, both as places of worship and as media centers for holistic development of the people. This service team is trying to optimize the function of the mosque as a center for community empowerment activities. This community service is motivated by the facilities and infrastructure of the Nurul Hikmah mosque which are still inadequate for the needs and comfort of worship, such as: carpets, loudspeakers, mosque clocks, towers and pulpits. Even the implementation of mosque management has not been so evenly distributed so that it has not been accompanied by social welfare efforts for the community. The purpose of this service is to find out the condition of the social welfare of the community. Community Service is the third dharma of higher education tri dharma. Meanwhile, in analyzing the data, the writer uses data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and verification. The results of this service showed that the condition of community welfare is experiencing stability with the implementation of programs carried out by mosque administrators to help community welfare, then the implementation of mosque management in an effort to improve community social welfare is by having a clear and transparent management function which makes the function of the mosque better.

Abstract

Telah dilakukan penelitian untuk mengendalikan laju korosi baja St-37 dalam medium asam klorida dan natrium klorida menggunakan inhibitor ekstrak daun teh (Camelia sinensis). Metode weight loss dan metode potensiodinamik untuk menentukan laju korosi, dalam medium HCl 3 % dan NaCl 3 %, dengan konsentrasi inhibitor yang ditambahkan bervariasi mulai dari 1 % hingga 10 % dengan perendaman selama empat hari. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa laju korosi berkurang dengan meningkatnya konsentrasi inhibitor yang ditambahkan, Peningkatan konsentrasi inhibitor diikuti juga dengan meningkatnya nilai effisiensin inhibisinya. Nilai efisiensi terbesar 86,3 % dengan penambahan konsentrasi inhibitor 10 % untuk medium korosif HCl dan dengan konsentrasi yang sama untuk NaCl mencapai 92,0%.  Analisis morfologi permukaan dengan foto optik memperlihatkan permukaan baja dengan penambahan ekstrak daun teh mengalami korosi  lebih sedikit dibandingkan dengan tanpa inibitor. Hal ini menunjukan bahwa inhibitor ekstrak daun teh sangat efisien untuk mengendalikan laju korosi dalam medium korosif HCl dan NaCl. A research  to control corrosion rate of St-37 steel in acid chloride and sodium chloride medium using tea leaf (Camellia sinensis) extract inhibitor has been done. The method used is potentiodynamic to see the value of the corrosion current and weight loss method for corrosion rate.. Corrosive medium used were HCl 3% and NaCl 3%. The concentration of the extract used range from 1%-10% and the immersion time is four days. The results showed that the corrosion rate was greatest in the corrosive medium without addition of inhibitors, whereas the corrosion rate decreases with the addition of inhibitors, it is also evident from the results of the Tafel plot shows Icor impairment. The greater the concentration of inhibitor that is used the lower the corrosion rate. Greatest efficiency values both for medium corrosive obtained at inhibitor concentrations of 10%, 86,3% in HCl and 92% in NaCl. This shows that tea leaves extract inhibitor is very efficient in controlling the rate of corrosion in HCl and NaCl medium. From the optical photograph  analysed on the surface morphology of St-37 steel showed that the addition of tea leaf extract suffered less corrosion.
