Abstract

Utilization of cocoa pod waste (Theobroma cacao) as a supercapacitor carbon electrode through electrolyte optimisation was successfully conducted with 0.5M KOH chemical activator. Carbon production starts with slicing cocoa pods, sun drying, pre-carbonisation, crushing of carbon particles with mortar and ball milling, and particle size uniformity using a sieve. The obtained particle powder was chemically activated with 0.5M KOH, coin-molded into of carbon monolith and finished with integrated pyrolysis. Samples were subjected to one-stage integrated pyrolysis by carbonisation from room temperature to 600˚ C in an N2 gas environment, followed by physical activation to 700˚ C in a CO2 gas environment. Testing the electrochemical properties of carbon electrodes based on different types of electrolytes (H2SO4, KOH, and Na2SO4) IM using cyclic voltammetry (CV) and galvanostatic charge discharge (GCD) methods. The sample provided with H2SO4 electrolyte was confirmed to have the highest specific capacitance of 412.94 F/g at a current of 1 A/g. Based on the results of this study, it is confirmed that cocoa pods have the potential to be a source of electrode base material with H2SO4 electrolyte solution as a source of charge carrier in supercapacitor cell devices.

Abstract

The beach is a comfortable place for traveling and relaxing. Therefore, the cleanliness of the beach area must be maintained for the sake of mutual comfort. Due to the lack of discipline of visitors, a lot of rubbish is piled up and piled up out of place every day. So, cleaning staff find it difficult to clean up rubbish manually. Therefore, an initial design stage is needed, then proceed with the creation of a semi-automatic beach cleaning machine or Beach Cleaning Machine to overcome this problem. In the future, cleaning the beach using this machine can speed up the cleaning process and make the work of beach cleaners easier. The working principle of this machine uses a gasoline motor as a driving source. So, when the motorbike is turned on, the machine will work automatically. Then to direct the movement of the machine an operator is needed. So, it is very appropriate to use a Beach Cleaning Machine to clean the beach compared to picking it up directly or using manual tools, because it can save work time.

Abstract

The need for electrical energy is increasing along with technological advances. In addition to the large population in an area, the variable economic activity of the population, which continues to increase to meet their daily needs, also has an impact on increasing the need for electrical energy. Demand for electrical energy is in line with increased economic activity. Therefore, developing renewable energy to provide sufficient electricity supply is very important. In this research, the modeling of a Micro Hydro Power Plant (PLTMH) has been designed using a breast wheel with a semicircular blade shape, a wheel diameter of 20cm, and 10 blades. The wheel model has 5 variations of water level (head) calculated from the water level in the reservoir to the water level in the wheel with 3 variations of ball valve openings. It was observed that the highest efficiency is at a head height of 0.8 m with a pipe cross-sectional area (A) of 0.0002 m2 with an efficiency of 70.11 percent. The increase in the flow rate of water flowing towards the breast wheel turns out to cause the wheel rotation to decrease. The decrease in the wheel's rotation is related to the increase in turbulence (collision) due to the large discharge of water against the wheels' walls. It can be concluded that the combination of gravity and water propulsion can move the breast wheel so that it produces electrical energy.

Abstract

Ceramic biomaterials based on hydroxyapatite (HA) and silica have been extensively studied due to their load-bearing capabilities in bone replacement and reconstruction applications. This study presents an analysis of the mechanical properties and physical characteristics of a mixture of bovine bone hydroxyapatite and silica with a resin binder as a candidate for bone implants. the objective of this research is to examine the effect of the quantity of hydroxyapatite grains and the composition of silica reinforcement particles on the mechanical and physical properties of the product. The methodology involves mixing bovine bone hydroxyapatite and silica in ratios of 90:10, 80:20, and 70:30. Subsequently, the specimens were molded and subjected to tensile tests to determine their tensile strength and elongation. Surface morphology analysis was conducted using a scanning electron microscope (SEM), while functional group and crystallographic analyses were performed using FTIR and XRD. the results indicate that the 70:30 composition provided the best outcomes, with a tensile strength of 13.07 MPa, compared to the 90:10 and 80:20 compositions, which had tensile strengths of 6.68 MPa and 12.96 MPa, respectively. The microstructure of the surface after tensile testing shows that the addition of silica can increase mechanical strength and reduce the porosity of the specimen surface.
