Abstract

During this time the tailstock off which is commonly used is made of castings which is difficult to obtain and the price is quite expensive, and it becomes on obstacle to replace it if there is damage or loss of locking the “tailstock”. For modifying it can be done in order to facilitate the use of machine, which is the modification of the tailstock release on the lathe because the design was previously damage and cannot be used properly and also makes locking more efficient and better than before. With the right material selection and material calculation, the desired target will be achieved perfectly and the use will ber very helpful in the use of loose heads on the lathe.

Abstract

The community service program carried out by the Mechanical Engineering Department, Padang State Polytechnic lecturer is an activity in order to fulfill the Tridarma of Higher Education for the 2018 budget year. The activity was held in the form of SMAW 2F welding improvement training for the youth of Koto Luar, Pauh sub-district, Padang. In this area, there are many high school graduates who have not dared to enter the real workforce because they feel they do not have sufficient skills to join the field workforce. On the other hand, the Koto Luar village is currently developing very fast, because there has been assimilation between migrants and indigenous people. Along with increasing population, of course also followed by the addition of living facilities. To synergize the increase in progress with its human resource capabilities, various knowledge and skills are needed, one of which is the electric welding skills knowledge of SMAW 2F. Its welding training was attended by 21 Koto Luar youths for 4 days at the Mechanical Engineering department workshop. Expected abilities after training, Koto Luar youths are able to properly weld 2F methods according to welding standards, so that later participants are expected to enter the world of welding work. After debriefing the participants can take part in the welding training well, so that they get the SMAW 2F welding certificate signed by the director of the Padang State Polytechnic. The welding enhancement training activity of SMAW 2F received positive support from the chairman of the Community Empowerment Agency (BPM) and village leaders, because this activity had long been wanted by the community. The Koto Luar community hopes that the training to improve SMAW 2F's welding ability for youth in Pauh Padang sub-district can be carried out continuously, because many young people are interested in SMAW's welding knowledge, the goal is to be able to open entrepreneurs and fill jobs around Lambung Bukit, Koto Luar , and Limau Manis Padang.

Abstract

Corrosion on wooden nails is very detrimental because it shortens the life of the ship. Although the used spikes have been coated with corrosion resistance material, corrosion rate is still very harmful. Therefore that additional effort is required for  reducing the corrosion rate of these spikes. Research has been done by comparing the giving of cocoa peels extract as a paint mixer to corrosion rate. As a comparison has also been done nails without paint and nails painted without additional cocoa peels extract. Calculation of corrosion rate is done by weight loss method. The addition of cocoa peels extract showed significant effect on corrosion rate, it can be explained cocoa peels containing secondary metabolite compound one of them is tannin. The tannin compound in the extract can form complex compounds with Fe (III) on the metal surface, so that the corrosion reaction rate will decreas.Keywords: cocoa peels extract, corrosion, weight loss.

Abstract

This study was carried out to deal with reducing feed cost and provide high quality poultry feed for the local breed of quail  through the provision of feed mixer machines equipped with fermentation equipment.  Mixing feed poultry using machines is much faster, accurate and less energy consuming compered with manual mixing. Poultry  feed  mixing  machine  was  designed,  fabricated  and  tested. The  machine  consists  of  two function as mixing and fermented liquid spray. The  design  computations  to  handle  a  400 Kg  mass  of  feed and 4 L of fermented liquid. The machine was tested using afeed components divided into 170 kg for Maize bran, 120 kg for bran, 2 kg for mineral, 136  kg  for  Bone  meal , 2  kg  for  Salt and 4L fermented liquid replicated twice at four mixing durations of 4, 8, 12 and 16 min. The perfect homogenious mixing was got in 16 min

Abstract

Implants are used for various reasons, such as replacing damaged tissue caused by disease or trauma, as filler and support the healing phase. The general terminology of biocompatibility describes a condition which will not cause harmful interaction between foreign material and the body. Biocompatibility is a system  including physical, chemical, biological, medical, and design aspects. This study is focused on the influence of the coating thickness of hidroxyapatite layer on the rate of oxidation. Pure titanium  coated by HA with thickness variation needs to be tested for oxidation resistance to determine the  coating effectiveness in reducing the rate of oxidation. The rate of oxidation  measured by weight loss method after coated titanium by HA and than heating in a heat furnance. HA coatings obtained by a process of electrophoretic deposition (EPD) with  variation of time between  5 to 35 minutes at a voltage of 40 V with fineness of 30 µm. The oxidation process was done during the sintering process in a heat furnace for 10 minutes. The result of this study shows that the increase of time EPD increases the thickness of HA layer. Oxidation resistance on CPTi after HA coating does not cause the quality of pure titanium degraded in addition,  the oxidation resistance of HA increases from good grade to excellent grade. It shows that the formation of surface oxide slows down during sintering process.

Abstract

Kelompok Tani Cahaya Baru Nagari Persiapan Lubuk Gadang Barat Kecamatan Sangir Kabupaten Solok Selatan telah mendapat penyuluhan dari tim pengabdian masyarakat Politeknik Negeri Padang. Sosialisi yang diberikan adalah tentang bagaimana cara membuat pupuk kompos dari limbah pertanian. Permasalahan yang ditemukan adalah petani sering kekurangan pupuk untuk memupuk tanamannya. Sehingga untuk memenuhi kebutuhannya harus membeli pupuk dengan harga yang mahal. Solusi yang ditawarkan untuk mengatasi permasalahan yang terjadi pada kelompok tani tersebut adalah memberikan penyuluhan cara membuat pupuk kompos dari limbah pertanian. Dengan memberikan penyuluhan ini diharapkan kelompok tani dapat menyediakan pupuk alami untuk kebutuhan petani di desa Bumi Ayu umumnya dan kelompok tani Cahaya Baru khususnya. Kontribusi mendasar pada khalayak sasaran adalah setelah program pengabdian ini diharapkan petani mampu membuat pupuk kompos yang dapat digunakan sebagai pupuk alam untuk mengatasi ketergantungan terhadap pupuk kimia, sehingga dapat menjaga kesuburan tanah di lahan pertanian.

Abstract

Carpet washer is a machine that is used to help complete work in the laundry industry. By using this carpet cleaning machine, cleaning carpets is fast and easy. The purpose of designing this carpet washing machine is a form of innovation and creativity based on technological developments. This machine is made with an additional tube of liquid detergent to make work easier and increase efficiency. The initial method of designing this carpet washing machine is to collect data. Next is the calculation and design. The results of the design of this carpet washing machine obtained a motor power of 1.5 HP and a rotation of 1400 rpm, with a height of 1020 mm, a length of 745 mm and a width of 345 mm using a type-A belt transmission, pulleys with a diameter of 2” and 6”, a shaft diameter of 19 mm, the type of bearing used is UCF F212 type, has a cleaning brush and uses a liquid detergent tube. The design of this carpet washing machine has been made based on the correct design and calculation and can be continued for production.

Abstract

With the rapid development of technology today the refrigerator freezer (refrigerator) as a tool to help us in storing food for long lasting. Refrigeration is a process of absorption of heat from a substance or product so that the temperature is below the ambient temperature whereas, refrigerant is a substance used as a working fluid in the heat absorption process. It is this substance that circulates in the refrigeration machine, which absorbs heat from the object or air that is cooled, then dumps it into the surrounding air outside the object or room that is cooled. In the use of refrigenerator often experience damage, so it is necessary to analyze the damage. The analysis showed that there was damage to the AR 763 refrigerator freezer, namely the cooling system was blocked due to the refrigerator not operating (damaged) and causing the refrigerant in the system to freeze which caused the system to not work. Abstract

800LC-38A Centrifugal Pump is a very important pump in the 2x15 MW PLTU, PT. Industrial Area Dumai-Wilmar Group, Riau Province. Where the efficiency of the 2x15 MW power plant is quite influenced by this pump. The 800LC-38A Centrifugal Pump functions as a cooling water circulation at the 2x15 MW PLTU so that productivity at the 2x15 MW PLTU runs smoothly. The aim is to explain the damage that occurs and be able to perform maintenance and repairs to the pump. Maintenance measures at the 800LC-38A Centrifugal pump are Preventive Maintenance, Predictive Maintenance and Corrective Maintenance. The problem that occurs in this pump is the reduced pump capacity and high vibration. While damage occurred to pump components such as pump shafts, shaft sleeves and casings which were corroded, teflon / guide bearings were damaged, and pump impellers were cracked due to cavitation on the pump. Maintenance carried out on the 800LC-38A Centrifugal pump in the form of checking the condition of the bearing, checking vibration and lubrication. The repairs made to the pump shaft that is corroding is by metalizing, for the case of the pump that is corroded can be overcome by coating / coating, shaft sleeve that is corroding and the impeller which is cracked due to cavitation cannot be repaired but a component replacement must be done.

Abstract

SMAW 2F welding training has been carried out at the Politeknik Negeri Padang (PNP) for youth from the Lambung Bukit sub-district, Pauh sub-district, Padang city in order to carry out the Tri Dharma of Higher Education. The SMAW 2F welding workshop was supported by the head of the Community Empowerment Agency (BPM) and Kelurahan because the community had been waiting for this activity for a long time. High school graduates in Lambung Bukit sub-district who do not yet have adequate skills to be able to compete in filling employment opportunities. With current technological developments, especially in the field of information technology, Lambung Bukit sub-district has experienced extraordinary development, due to the assimilation between the natives and the newcomers. On the other hand, population growth must also be followed by an increase in living facilities. To harmonize the progress of the two fields with the capabilities of human resources, various training and skills are needed, one of which is skills training in the field of electric welding. SMAW 2F electric welding training is currently very much needed to fill the shortage of labor in the welding field. After it was agreed with Kelurahan the PNP service team held a 4-day training which was attended by 30 Lambung Bukit youths at the Padang State Polytechnic Mechanical Engineering workshop. The results obtained showed that Lambung Bukit youth were able to perform SMAW electric welding using the 2F method well according to recognized welding standards. With the results obtained, all training participants received a SMAW 2F welding certificate from the Politeknik Negeri Padang. The Lambung Bukit community hopes that this kind of training can be carried out continuously because many young people want to improve their competencies which can be a provision in opening entrepreneurship and filing available job opportunities.
