Abstract

This study examines the ideological orientations shaping indigenous education in the context of environmental protection and food security amid deepening marginalization. The research employs a mixed-methods design, combining William O’Neill’s Educational Ideology Questionnaire with qualitative observations and in-depth interviews. The findings reveal that indigenous education actors predominantly adopt conservative and intellectualist orientations, emphasizing the preservation of customary values, ecological balance, and structured knowledge transmission. Institutional practices, however, reflect more liberal tendencies, prioritizing inclusivity and adaptive learning. This interplay of ideologies positions education as both contextual and emancipatory, reinforcing indigenous agency in advancing ecological resilience, food sovereignty, and social justice. Keywords: environmental protection; food security; educational ideology; indigenous peoples

Abstract

Learning motivation determines students' engagement in Pancasila Education, yet lecture- and textbook-based learning may reduce participation. This study examined the effectiveness of Smart Box learning media in improving the learning motivation of eighth-grade students at SMPN 5 Banyuwangi. A quantitative quasi-experimental method with a nonequivalent control group design was used. The participants were 67 students: 34 in the experimental class and 33 in the control class. Data were collected through observation, a learning motivation questionnaire, and documentation, then analyzed using descriptive statistics, Shapiro-Wilk normality tests, Levene homogeneity tests, and an Independent Sample t-Test. The experimental class mean increased from 66.29 to 86.59, while the control class mean increased from 73.52 to 83.88. The posttest result was significant (p = 0.021 < 0.05). Thus, Smart Box media effectively improved learning motivation by making learning more concrete, interactive, and participatory.

Abstract

This study examines the implementation of the value of divinity in Pancasila to strengthen students' disciplinary character at SMP Negeri 4 Banyuwangi. The research aims to describe the implementation process, identify the obstacles encountered, and explain the efforts made by the school. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed, with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation involving the principal, vice principal for student affairs, teachers, guidance and counseling teachers, and students. The findings show that the value of divinity is implemented through religious habituation activities, including communal prayers, recitation of the Asmaul Husna, Qur’an recitation, congregational dhuhr prayers, Jumat Taqwa, Ramadan religious camps, religious holiday commemorations, and tolerance practices. The main obstacles include low student awareness, environmental influences, social media, and limited parental supervision. The school addresses these challenges through teacher role modeling, counseling services, personal guidance, educational sanctions, and collaboration with parents. Overall, these efforts effectively strengthen students' disciplinary character.

Abstract

The rapid growth of TikTok usage among adolescents has become an important issue due to its potential influence on students' character development. This study aims to examine the effect of TikTok social media use on the politeness character of tenth-grade students at SMAN 1 Giri Banyuwangi. The research employed a quantitative approach using a survey method. The population consisted of 360 students, while 80 respondents were selected through proportional random sampling. Data were collected using questionnaires, observations, and documentation. Prior to hypothesis testing, the research instrument was tested for validity and reliability, followed by normality and linearity tests. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistical analysis and inferential statistical tests with the aid of SPSS version 26 after the research instrument met the validity, reliability, normality, and linearity assumptions. The results showed that all questionnaire items were valid and reliable (Cronbach's Alpha = 0.922). The data were normally distributed (Asymp. Sig. = 0.200 > 0.05), and the hypothesis test indicated that TikTok social media use significantly affected students' politeness character (t = 2.518; Sig. = 0.014 < 0.05). However, the coefficient of determination (R² = 0.075) revealed that TikTok social media use contributed 7.5% to students' politeness character, while the remaining 92.5% was influenced by other factors outside this study. This study contributes to strengthening empirical evidence regarding the relationship between social media use and character education in the digital era, while providing practical recommendations for schools, teachers, and parents to improve students' digital literacy and character development.
