Abstract

The purpose of this study was to describe the effect of dietary protein levels enriched with rGH on the ratio of length of the intestine to body weight of giant gourami. The diet with different protein levels (i.e. 21%, 28%, 34%; isoenergy) coated with egg yolk containing rGH. Each treatment has a control without rGH addition. Juveniles of giant gourami (body weight15.83 ± 0.13 g) were fed with a diet containing rGH twice a week. Fish were reared in 100 L glass aquaria with density of 10 fish per aquaria for 42 days. At the end of the treatment, body weight and length of the intestine were measured to determine the effect of treatment on the ratio of these two parameters. The result of research showed that at each level of treatment, the dietary protein levels and rGH supplementation gave a significant effect to increase the ratio of intestinal length to body weight (p <0,05). Ratio of intestinal length to body weight of fish was increase by decre-asing protein level in dietary (p <0,05). No interaction between protein levels and rGH additon on the ratio of intestinal length to body weight (p> 0,05).

Abstract

Fluctuating asymmetry of the bilateral meristic characteristic is one of the simple methods that can be used to determine the stability of an individual fish development. This study aims to provide quantitative information about the level of asymmetry of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) in Dunia Air Independent Training Center Marine and Fisheries, Banyuwangi through bilateral meristic characteristic observation.  A total of 120 fish samples (5-7 cm) were measured in this study. Four bilateral meristic characters were calculated i.e. the number of soft pectoral fins, number of soft ventral fins, number of scales on the lateral line up and down. The results show that the highest value of the fluctuating asymmetry of magnitude (FAm) and fluctuating asymmetry of number (FAn) was obtained at the number of scales on the lateral line up those are 2.14 and 0.78, respectively. Meanwhile, the lowest FAm and FAn values obtained from the soft ventral fins which were 1.69 and 0.78, respectively. The sum of the total value of fluctuating asymmetry of each bilateral meristic characteristic was observed. The overall FAm value was 7.83 and the overall FAn value was 2.99.Keywords: fluctuating asymmetry, Nile tilapia, PMKP Dunia Air

Abstract

Detriment caused by ectoparasitic infestation was not as big detriment caused by infestation of other organisms such as viruses and bacteria, but it could be a predisposing factor for the infection of more dangerous pathogenic in fish. The aims of this study was to inventory ectoparasites that infecting freshwater fish cultivated in several districts in the Banyuwangi, in which the results were expected to be used as a reference in an effort to prevent the spread of disease in fish culture. The sample of research consisted of tilapia fish, carp and catfish which were obtained from six sub districts in Banyuwangi, those were Kota, Kabat, Licin, Kalipuro, Giri, and Glagah. The ectoparasite examination method was performed naturally by scraping the surface of the body, fins and gills of the fish, then observed under a microscope with magnification ranging from 40 to 400x. The results of further observations were documented and identified by key identification. Ectoparasites which were found infesting freshwater fish in the city of Banyuwangi consisted of 4 genuses: namely Argulus, Lernaea, Chonopeltis and Trichodina. Further research is needed to determine the prevalence and intensity of ectoparasites in order to prevent the spread of ectoparasites in other regions. Keywords: Inventarisation, ectoparasites, freshwater fish, Banyuwangi

Abstract

Asymmetric fluctuations function as a measure of organ stability in pairs in an individual. This study aims to determine the value of asymmetric fluctuations in hybrid grouper hybrid fish from Situbondo and Bali. The study was conducted for 3 months, starting from July-September 2018. The grouper used in this study was 100 individuals from each region, with a size of 7-9 cm. Bilateral meristic characters measured include the pectoral fin, ventral fin and lateral line. The results showed that the ventral fin character of the grouper fish from Situbondo and Bali had a higher FA value of 0.6-0.7, while the lateral linea organ had a higher FAm value, 1.1 to 1.9. The FAgb value of the grouper originating from Situbondo has a high value compared to the grouper from Bali, which is 1.5-2.4.

Abstract

Pacific white shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) is one of the leading fisheries commodities that have important economic value and are in great demand by consumers in the market. Pacific white shrimp has several advantages, namely rapid growth, able to adapt to a high range of salinity, and can be cultured with a super intensive system, but in recent years the total shrimp production in Indonesia has decreased. In 2012 the total shrimp production decreased from 1.900 tons to 1.025 tons, the virus is thought to be a pathogen that triggers disease in shrimp and causes high mortality. The type of virus that causes disease in pacific white shrimp cultivation is Taura Syndrome Virus (TSV), Infectious Myonecrosis Virus (IMNV), and White Spot Syndrome Virus (WSSV). The purpose of this study is to detect viruses that infected and determine the prevalence of viruses that attack pacific white shrimp. The research was conducted in December 2018 to January 2019 at Fish Quarantine Center, Quality Control and Security of Fishery Product Surabaya I. The material used in the study was 37 post larval samples. Samples extracted using Silica Extraction Kit, then detected molecularly using PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction). This research was observational, then the data obtained were analyzed descriptively. The results showed that there were 3 positive samples of IMNV and 2 positive samples of WSSV with prevalence values of 8.10% and 5.40%. High and low prevalence values are influenced by the level of virus spread and inappropriate environmental conditions. Keywords : Pacific white shrimp, PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction), prevalence, virus.

Abstract

Catfish (Clarias sp.) is one of Indonesia's leading fishery commodities whose production continues to be increased. Humic acid is known to help increase growth in several types of fish and is expected to be applied to catfish. This study aims to determine the effect of humic acid in commercial feed on the growth and total number of bacteria in the digestive tract of catfish (Clarias sp.). A total of 300 catfish with an average length of 5.76 ± 0.21 cm and an average weight of 27.92 ± 0.39 g were used in 5 treatments (4 replicates/treatments) of humic acid supplementation in feed with different doses, namely P1 (without humic acid/control), P2 (0.5 %), P3 (1.0%), P4 (1.5 %), and P5 (2.0 %). Maintenance was carried out for 40 days by feeding treatment 3 times a day as much as 5% of body weight. Parameters observed were absolute length growth (cm), absolute weight growth (g), specific growth rate (%), and total bacteria in the digestive tract (colonies/g). Based on the results of the study, it was found that the treatment had a significant effect on the growth and number of bacterial colonies with the optimal dose of humic acid of 0.5.Keyword : Behavior, Doses, Control, Colony

Abstract

High production costs in grouper nursery can be caused by the use of large fingerlings size and long rearing times. The purposes of this study were to evaluate the culture performance and economic profitability of “cantang” hybrid grouper juveniles reared at different initial stocking sizes and nursery periods. This research lasted from September to December 2017 in one of small scale hatcheries in Buleleng, Bali, Indonesia. This study consisted of two experimental treatments; the first treatment was different initial stocking sizes (body weight and total length) of 0.50 ± 0.07 g and 3.0 ± 2.1 cm; 3.50 ± 0.67 g and 5.0 ± 1.9 cm; and 6.10 ± 0.91 g and 7.0 ± 2.3 cm. The second treatment was different nursery periods with the following arrangement: 15, 30, and 45 days (initial body weight and length of 0.54 ± 0.067 g and 3.0 ± 0.09 cm, respectively). The stocking density in all treatments was 1,000 fish reared in a 2 m x 2 m x 1 m concrete tank. The observed culture performance parameters consisted of survival rate (SR, %), daily growth rate (DGR, g/day), and feed conversion ratio (FCR). The calculated economic profitability parameters were net profit, return-on-investment (ROI, %), and return cost ratio (R/C). The highest culture performance was achieved by the juveniles reared using the largest initial stocking size and longest nursery period. This was in contrast with the economic profitability, in which smaller initial stocking size and middle nursery period had resulted in the highest profit. Based on the culture performance and profitability considerations, the suggested combination of initial stocking size and nursery period for cantang fingerlings is 3.0 ± 2.1 cm initial stocking size and 30 days rearing times.
