Abstract

The development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in education has opened up opportunities for strengthening AI digital literacy and creative thinking skills among students. AI digital literacy includes understanding how AI works, the ethics of use, and utilization in various contexts, while creative thinking refers to the ability to generate innovative and original ideas. This study aims to explore the level of AI digital literacy and creative thinking skills among Xth grade high school students, using a descriptive method with proficiency tests and self-assessment questionnaires. The results showed that students' AI digital literacy level was low, with an average score of 56.94%, where students had difficulty in critically digesting information, recognizing the social impact of AI, using AI technology, and considering the ethical aspects of its use. In addition, students' creative thinking skills were also low, with an average score of 55.14%, especially in the aspects of originality of ideas, flexibility of thinking, and conceptual mapping. These findings highlight the need for the integration of an AI curriculum in education, the use of interactive AI tools, and the implementation of project-based learning models to improve students' AI digital literacy and creativity. In addition, learning environments that support exploration and positive feedback from teachers play an important role in creating optimal synergy between these two skills. Further research is needed to explore the limitations of AI in supporting creativity as well as the risks of technology dependency in the innovative thinking process.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of implementing PjBL combined with DS in enhancing botanical literacy among biology students. This research follows a quasi-experimental non-equivalent control group design. The botanical literacy scores of students are normally distributed, and the data variance is homogeneous (sig>0.05). The findings indicate that the implementation of Project-Based Learning (PjBL) supported by digital storytelling can improve students' botanical literacy. The results of the LSD (Least Significant Difference) post-hoc test show no significant difference between the experimental group using PjBL with digital storytelling and the control group using PjBL without digital storytelling. There is an indication that the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in answering post-test questions may have influenced the research results. Nonetheless, digital storytelling remains a promising innovative approach in botany education. Its advantages during the learning process are evident in students' higher engagement, increased creativity in presenting material, and its ability to visualize complex botanical concepts effectively. Further integration of other technologies in learning is necessary, along with stricter control over AI usage during assessments.

Abstract

This research trains the students’ ethnomedicine literacy by using project-based learning and augmented reality assistance and evaluating the learning effectiveness. The research method used was a non-randomized control group pretest-posttest design, and a problem-based learning model was used as a control class. This research evaluates students' ethnomedicine literacy using descriptive statistical data analysis, n-gain scores, and ANCOVA tests. The research results showed differences in ethnomedicine literacy with an ANCOVA significance value of 0.08 between the experimental and control classes. Both classes showed increased ethnomedicine literacy, but the n-gain score for the experimental class was greater than that of the control class. Students' ethnomedicine literacy is higher in the experimental class because there are learning activities that empower ethnomedicine literacy, such as students are trained to be broad-minded, have positive attitudes and behavior related to ethnomedicine studies, working on simple manufacturing projects based on student research to get closer to the environment and society, and using AR as a simulation for testing the antibacterial power of medicinal plants. This research concludes that AR-assisted project-based ethnobotany learning is proven to be able to increase students' ethnomedicine literacy. This research can be helpful as a learning design reference to empower ethnomedicine or other literacy in biology.

Abstract

Botanical education in higher education often faces challenges in contextualizing abstract plant concepts and fostering student engagement. Integrating local wisdom into botanical education through Project-Based Learning (PjBL) enhances students’ learning experiences by connecting traditional ecological knowledge with scientific concepts. Brakseng, Batu Malang, provides an ideal setting for this approach, yet research on students' perceptions remains limited. This study aims to examine students’ perceptions of local wisdom-integrated PjBL in botanical education by analyzing its influence on conceptual understanding, learning motivation, and perceived implementation challenges. A cross-sectional survey was conducted from August to November 2024 with 63 undergraduate biology students at Universitas Negeri Malang. Data were collected through a Likert-scale questionnaire assessing learning experience, motivation, and performance, supplemented by qualitative responses. Quantitative data were analyzed using statistical software SPSS, while qualitative data were examined through thematic analysis. Results indicate that PjBL integrated with local wisdom received a positive responses regarding student learning, motivation, and student performance skill. The majority of students agreed that project assignments improved their grasp of concepts, boosted motivation, and enhanced teamwork. Students also reported increased problem-solving abilities and engagement with environmental conservation efforts. The study confirms that PjBL incorporating local wisdom positively influences botanical education by fostering deeper learning and real-world application. These findings offer valuable insights for developing culturally responsive and sustainable educational strategies.
