Abstract

Abstract Ozone (O₃) generated during LINAC operation can accumulate indoors and pose respiratory risks, yet many facilities lack continuous monitoring. We designed and validated a low-cost, electrochemical sensor platform—ZE25A-O₃ integrated with an Arduino Mega, on-board logging, and a Nextion HMI—for real-time surveillance in a LINAC suite. The sensor was calibrated at 24 °C and 40% RH against 0.5–1.5 ppm standards, yielding slope = 1.045, intercept = −0.04067 ppm, R² = 0.99984, and RMSE = 9.39 ppb, supporting reliable low-ppb quantification. Time series were aggregated into 30-min bins with centered 1-h rolling means to extract diurnal structure while suppressing short-term fluctuations. Field measurements showed a 20–30 ppb background with intermittent spikes exceeding 100 ppb (peaks ~150 ppb). A reproducible daily pattern emerged: late-morning minima (~20–21 ppb) followed by evening enhancement (~26–28 ppb), consistent with ventilation and operational schedule. Average conditions were below the Indonesian workplace limit of 100 ppb, but episodic exceedances motivate real-time alerts and ventilation management. This work demonstrates a practical approach for continuous exposure assessment and data-informed environmental control in radiotherapy facilities.

Abstract

The Guided Question Technique (GQT) has recently caught the interest of researchers. Although many studies have explored the effects of GQT on skills like reading and speaking, there are relatively few investigations into its impact on students' writing abilities, specifically in crafting descriptive texts. This paper aims to examine whether the guided question technique (GTQ) can enhance students' writing skills, specifically in composing descriptive texts. To achieve the study's objective, seventy students from SMA Negeri 7 Palu in Indonesia were purposively divided into two groups. One group received treatment from a researcher, while the other did not. The findings demonstrated a notable distinction between the treated and untreated groups. Students who received the treatment performed better in writing descriptive texts than those who did not. The results of this study clearly showed that employing the guided question technique in teaching writing skills was advantageous for intermediate-level students in writing descriptive texts. These findings have implications for teacher and other researchers.

Abstract

Writing is a crucial skill in language learning, yet numerous students still struggle with grammatical accuracy, particularly subject–verb agreement (SVA). Previous studies have exposed students’ errors in SVA but most of them focused on school-level learners, leaving limited research on undergraduate academic writing. Thus, this study aims to identify and analyze SVA errors in the academic writing of English Education students at Tadulako University. Utilizing a descriptive qualitative design, data were obtained from the background and discussion sections of ten undergraduate theses and analyzed through Dulay et al.’s (1982) Surface Strategy Taxonomy, which includes omission, addition, misformation, and misordering. The findings present that omission errors as the most frequent (10 cases), mostly involving the omission of auxiliary verbs be (is, are, was, were) and verb endings such as –s or –ing. Misformation errors (6 cases) appeared when students used incorrect verb forms, particularly in mismatching singular and plural agreement. Next, addition errors (4 cases) occurred when unnecessary auxiliaries or suffixes were inserted into sentences, creating redundancy. The last, misordering errors (1 case) reflected difficulties in arranging subject–verb structures according to English syntax. These results indicate that students’ main difficulties lie in maintaining auxiliaries and singular–plural concord, showing the influence of both interlingual and intralingual factors. Overall, these results emphasize the importance of needs-based grammar instruction and ongoing error analysis to enhance learners’ grammatical accuracy to produce a qualified academic writing

Abstract

This study was motivated by the students' limited vocabulary mastery in learning English. Therefore, the researcher applied interactive games as an instructional tool to support students in expanding their vocabulary. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of interactive games in improving the vocabulary achievement of eighth-grade learners at MTs Alkhairaat Alindau. The study employed a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental one-group pre-test and post-test design. The participants consisted of 24 students from Class VIII A. The data, collected through pre-tests and post-tests, were examined using a normality test and a paired sample t-test in SPSS software. Findings show that the students' mean score increased significantly from 45.67 in the pre-test to 66.58 in the post-test. The statistical analysis yielded a t-value of -15.668 (with a very large effect size, Cohen's d = 1.48) and a significance value (two-tailed) of 0.000. Since this value is less than 0.05, the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected while the alternative hypothesis (H1) is accepted. Therefore, the use of interactive games such as word matching and crossword puzzles proved effective in significantly improving students' vocabulary mastery at MTs Alkhairaat Alindau. This finding suggests that interactive games can serve as effective alternative strategies in EFL vocabulary teaching, particularly in similar junior high school settings.
