Abstract

Aim: The present research to formulate ethanol extract of Moringa oleifera leaf as a stable hand wash with required characteristics and evaluate it is effectivity against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. Method: Moringa oleifera was extracted using 96% of ethanol. The obtained extract was formulated into hand wash in concentration 2.5; 5; and 7.5% w/v using surfactant sodium dodecyl sulfate and cocamide DEA. Obtained hand wash then evaluated the physical characteristics including organoleptic, pH, viscosity, relative mass, and foaming level. Hand wash effectivity evaluated against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus using diffusion method. Result: Hand wash of Moringa oleifera leaf extract fulfill the physical characteristics requirement and showing strong activity against E. coli. and S. aureus with average inhibition zone 13.1 mm; 13.8 mm; 14.5 mm; 12.9 mm; 15.16 mm; and 15.46 mm respectively for 2.5; 5; and 7.5% each. Conclusion: Overall, the experimental results revealed strong inhibition activity of M. oleifera hand wash to E. coli and S. aureus, but increasing the concentration of the extract has no significant different to inhibition activity.

Abstract

Umbi paku atai merah (Angiopteris ferox Copel) merupakan tumbuhan paku yang berasal dari suku Dayak yang digunakan sebagai obat tradisional yang berpotensi sebagai antioksidan karena memiliki kandungan senyawa metabolit sekunder meliputii alkaloid, steroid, flavanoid, tanin serta saponin. Penggunaan umbi paku atai merah di masyarakat masih menggunakan cara tradisional yaitu diseduh dengan air panas, diminum air rebusannya dan meninggalkan rasa yang tidak enak, sehingga tujuan dari penelitian ini yaitu untuk memformulasi sediaan kapsul ekstrak etanol umbi paku atai merah yang memenuhi karakteristik fisik. Penelitian ini dilakukan pembuatan sediaan kapsul yang berisi granul dengan variasi konsentrasi aerosil FI 5%, FII 7% dan FIII 9%. Granul dibuat dengan metode granulasi basah, lalu dilakukan evaluasi karakteristik fisik granul dan kapsul. Hasil yang diperoleh dari ketiga granul tersebut memenuhi karakteristik fisik granul dengan parameter uji organoleptik, kandungan lembab, susut pengeringan, kecepatan alir, sudut istirahat, Bj sejati, Bj nyata, Bj mampat dan porositas. Sedangkan untuk kapsul FI dan FII merupakan sediaan yang memenuhi karakteristik fisik kapsul dengan parameter uji keseragaman bobot, waktu hancur dan higroskopis.

Abstract

Effectiveness of Moringa Leaf Extract (Moringa oleifera L.) for Peptic Ulcuses In Aspirine-Induced White Rats (Rattus norvegicus)Moringa (Moringa oleifera L). is a plant that is known for its multipurpose, nutrient-dense, and medicinal properties. Moringa leaves contain flavonoid compounds, namely β-sitosterol which can reduce ulcers in the stomach. This research used 15 male white rats divided into 5 groups, namely the normal group, CMC Na (Negative), ranitidine (Positive), and treatment with extract doses of 100 and 300 mg/kg BW. Test animals were induced by aspirin at a dose of 500 mg/kg for 7 days, then given treatment for 7 days, except for the normal group. On the 15th day, all groups were sacrificed, then the gastric organs were visually observed, and the ulcer index was measured. the observations it was found that the administration of the extract at a dose of 300 mg/kgBB decreased the number of ulcers compared to the positive control group (p>0.05). The extract dose of 300 mg/kg BW reduces the number of aspirin-induced ulcer diameters. The results of statistics with Kruskall-Wallis, there was a significant difference after treatment (p<0.05), but there was no significant difference between groups (p>0.05). Ethanol extract of Moringa leaves at a dose of 300 mg/kgBB can be gastroprotective in aspirin-induced male white rats.Keyword: Moringa leaves, gastroprotective, gastric ulcer, aspirinKelor (Moringa oleifera L).merupakan tanaman yang dikenal multi guna, padat akan nutrisi dan bermanfaat sebagai obat. Daun kelor mengandung senyawa flavonoid, yakni β-sitosterol yang dapat mengurangi tukak pada lambung. Penelitian ini menggunakan tikus putih jantan sebanyak 15 ekor yang dibagi dalam 5 kelompok yaitu kelompok normal, Na CMC (Negatif), ranitidine (Positif), dan perlakuan dengan dosis  ekstrak 100 dan 300 mg/kgBB. Hewan uji di induksi aspirin dosis 500 mg/kgBB selama 7 hari, kemudian diberi pengobatan selama 7 hari, kecuali kelompok normal. Pada hari ke-15 semua kelompok dikorbankan kemudian diamati organ lambung secara visual diukur indeks tukak. Dari hasil pengamatan diketahui bahwa pemberian ekstrak dosis 300 mg/kgBB terjadi penurunan jumlah tukak dibandingkan dengan kelompok kontrol positif  (p>0,05). Dosis ekstrak 300 mg/kgBB memberikan efek penurunan jumlah diameter tukak akibat induksi aspirin. Berdasarkan hasil perhitungan dengan Kruskall-Wallis menunjukkan adanya perbedaan yang signifikan setelah perlakuan (p<0,05), namun tidak menunjukkan perbedaan signifikan antar kelompok (p>0,05). Ekstrak etanol daun kelor dengan dosis 300 mg/kgBB memiliki kemampuan sebagai gastroprotektif pada tikus putih  jantan yang diinduksi aspirin.Keyword : Daun kelor, gastroprotektif, tukak lambung, aspirin

Abstract

Scabies Prevention Through Peer Educators At The Entrepreneur School Of Tahfidz Kekasih Al-Aqsha, Gowa, South SulawesiBased on a survey that was carried out, it was found that there were incidents of head lice and scabies infections at the Tahfidz Kekasih Al-Aqsa Entrepreneurial School, in Pattallassang, Kab. Gowa, South Sulawesi. This shows that the student's knowledge of this disease is still low. So it is necessary to carry out outreach to increase students' knowledge of the dangers of scabies and its treatment. 45 students and 5 teachers attended this counseling. The methods used in this service are lecture, question and answer, and scabies examination. The presentation of material about scabies was carried out using PowerPoint media, after which the material continued with a question-and-answer session. At the end of the activity, a health examination was carried out to identify and provide treatment to students and teachers who suffered from scabies. The results of the counseling showed that 2 students were suffering from scabies. The counseling was considered successful because the students answered all the questions (100%).Keywords: Counseling, Peer Education, Scabies Berdasarkan survei yang telah dilakukan ditemukan adanya kejadian infeksi kutu rambut dan skabies (kudis) di Sekolah Enterpreneur Tahfidz Kekasih Al-Aqsha, di Pattallassang, Kab. Gowa, Sulawesi Selatan. Hal ini menunjukkan masih rendahnya pengetahuan para santri terhadap penyakit tersebut. Maka perlu dilakukan sosialisasi untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan santri terhadap bahaya penyakit skabies serta pengobatannya. Penyuluhan ini diikuti oleh 45 orang santri dan 5 orang guru. Metode yang digunakan dalam pengabdian ini adalah metode ceramah, tanya jawab, dan pemeriksaan skabies. Pemaparan materi tentang skabies dilakukan menggunakan media PowerPoint, setelah pemaparan materi dilanjutkan dengan sesi tanya jawab. Di akhir kegiatan, dilakukan pemeriksaan kesehatan untuk mengetahui dan memberikan pengobatan kepada santri maupun guru yang menderita skabies. Hasil penyuluhan menunjukkan bahwa ada 2 orang santri yang menderita skabies. Penyuluhan dinilai berhasil karena semua pertanyaan yang diberikan berhasil dijawab oleh santri (100%).Kata kunci : Penyuluhan, Peer Education, Skabies

Abstract

Acne is one of the skin damages caused by acne-causing bacteria. Flavonoids, saponins, and tannins in taro tubers can potentially have activity against acne-causing bacteria. This study aims to determine the formulation of extract transparent solid soap preparation that meets the characteristics and assess the activity of soap preparation as anti-acne against acne-causing bacteria. Taro tubers were extracted by maceration method. The extract was formulated as transparent solid soap preparations with variations in extract concentration, namely F0 0%, F1 2%, F2 4%, and F3 8%. The soap was evaluated for characteristics including organoleptic test, pH, moisture content, free fatty acids and alkali, mineral oil test, and foam stability test. Antibacterial activity testing of transparent soap extracts was carried out against acne-causing bacteria. The extraction results obtained an extract yield of 10.86%, the three extract formulas have transparent solid soap characteristics that meet the requirements. Soap preparation formula 1 has an inhibition zone of 21.66 ± 0.31 mm against P. acnes bacteria, 19.11±0.53 mm against S. epidermidis, 21.74±0.34 mm against S. aureus. Soap preparation formula 2 has an inhibition zone of 18.53±0.26 mm against P. acnes bacteria, 18.71±0.49 mm against S. epidermidis, 20.16±0.34 mm against S.aureus and soap preparation formula 3 has an inhibition zone of 19.03±0.68 mm against P. acnes bacteria, 19.93±0.86 mm against S. epidermidis, 22.75±0.59 mm against S.aureus. In conclusion, formula 2 with 2% extract concentration has the best soap characteristics and has the most optimal inhibition zone.

Abstract

Potential for Improving Memory in White Rats (Rattus norvegicus) Using Moringa Leaf Extract (Moringa oleifera) Using the Y Maze Method Memory decline is a disease of impaired brain function and cognitive decline characterized by changes in behavior, decreased memory, and difficulty in communicating. One of the causative factors is oxidative stress where the imbalance between the production of Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) and the body's antioxidant defense system, causes lipid peroxidation, protein oxidation, and changes in ROS that cause the death of brain neurons. Moringa leaf (Moringa oleifera) is a plant that contains high antioxidants, namely flavonoids. These compounds provide neuroprotective effects on the brain due to oxidative stress that causes memory decline. The purpose of this study was to determine the activity of Moringa leaf extract on memory improvement in white rats (Rattus norvegicus) using the Y-Maze Labyrinth method. Experimental animals were divided into 5 groups, namely negative control (Na-CMC), Gingko Biloba, and treatment groups given moringa leaf extract at a dose of 50 mg / kgBB, 100 mg / kgBB and 200 mg / kgBB. The rats were first induced with Hyosin-Butylbrimide at a dose of 1.5 mg/KgBB in ip for 10 days. The administration of the extract was carried out for 18 days with the observed parameters including the time required for rats to find food in the Y-maze maze tool.  The observation data obtained were then analyzed using the Mann Whitney test. The results showed that the ethanol extract of moringa leaves has a memory enhancing activity. Memory enhancing activity was shown at a dose of 200 mg/kgBB. ABSTRAK Penurunan daya ingat merupakan penyakit gangguan fungsi otak dan penurunan kognitif yang ditandai dengan perubahan perilaku, penurunan memori, serta kesulitan dalam berkomunikasi. Salah satu faktor penyebabnya adalah stress oksidatif dimana ketidakseimbangan antara produksi Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) dengan sistem pertahanan antioksidan tubuh, sehingga menyebabkan peroksidasi lipid, oksidasi protein, perubahan ROS yang menyebabkan kematian neuron otak. Daun Kelor (Moringa oleifera) merupakan tanaman yang mengandung antioksidan tinggi yaitu flavonoid. Senyawa tersebut memberikan efek neuroprotektif pada otak akibat stres oksidatif yang menyebabkan penurunan daya ingat. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui aktivitas ekstrak Daun Kelor terhadap peningkatan daya ingat pada tikus putih (Rattus norvegicus) menggunakan metode Labirin Y-Maze. Hewan coba dibagi menjadi 5 kelompok yaitu kontrol negatif (Na-CMC), Gingko Biloba, kelompok perlakuan yang diberikan ekstrak Daun Kelor dengan dosis 50 mg/KgBB, 100 mg/KgBB dan 200 mg/KgBB. Terlebih dahulu tikus diinduksi dengan Hyosin-Butylbrimide dengan dosis 1,5 mg/KgBB secara ip selama 10 hari. Pemberian ekstrak dilakukan selama 18 hari dengan parameter yang diamati meliputi waktu yang dibutuhkan tikus untuk menemukan makanan pada alat labirin Y-maze.  Data hasil pengamatan yang diperoleh kemudian dianalisis menggunakan uji Mann Whitney. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak etanol Daun Kelor mempunyai aktivitas peningkat daya ingat. Aktivitas peningkat daya ingat ditunjukkan pada dosis 200 mg/kgBB.

Abstract

Introduction: Edema is a common sign of inflammation characterized by increased tissue volume. Tithonia diversifolia leaves have traditionally been used as anti-inflammatory agents because they contain active compounds such as flavonoids, alkaloids, steroids, terpenoids, tannins, sesquiterpenoids, phenolic acids, and saponins. Aims: Determine the anti-inflammatory effects of ethanol extract of Tithonia diversifolia leaves on rats (Mus musculus) induced by carrageenan. Method: Extraction was carried out using maceration. The experimental design was pre- and post-test with five groups: healthy controls, positive controls (sodium diclofenac), and three treatment groups receiving 12.5 mg/30 gBW, 25 mg/30 gBW, and 37.5 mg/30 gBW of Tithonia diversifolia leaf extract. Edema was induced with carrageenan and measured using a plethysmometer at certain intervals. Result: The results showed that a dose of 37.5 mg/30 gBW significantly decreased edema volume, comparable to the diclofenac group (p>0.05). Conclusion: The ethanol extract of paitan leaves at this dose can function as an effective anti-inflammatory agent.

Abstract

Paparan sinar ultraviolet (UV) yang berlebihan berpotensi menimbulkan kerusakan jaringan kulit, mempercepat penuaan, hingga meningkatkan risiko kanker kulit. Upaya pencegahan dilakukan melalui penggunaan tabir surya untuk membatasi penetrasi UV ke kulit. Dua sumber bahan aktif alami yang prospektif digunakan yaitu buah mahkota dewa dan rimpang kencur, buah mahkota dewa mengandung senyawa glukosida benzofenon yaitu phalerin dan rimpang kencur mengandung etil-parametoksisinamat yang merupakan senyawa turunan sinamat. Tujuan penelitian untuk menemukan konsentrasi emulgator yang optimal yang dapat meningkatkan stabilitas produk serta memperbaiki kinerja perlindungan terhadap sinar UV. Ekstrak diperoleh melalui proses maserasi menggunakan etanol96%, selanjutnya diformulasi dalam bentuk sediaan krim sebanyak 9 formula dengan variasi konsentrasi berbagai emulgator yaitu novemer, viscolam dan  tween 80-span 80 lalu dilakukan pengujian efektivitas tabir surya dari krim ekstrak dengan menghitung nilai %Te, %Tp, dan SPF. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan emulgator viscolam dengan konsentrasi 4% (formula VI) merupakan formula krim yang paling stabil berdasarkan parameter organoleptis, homogenitas, pH, tipe emulsi, viskositas, daya sebar serta daya lekat dan hasil pengujian tabir surya  dikategorikan sebagai proteksi ekstra dengan nilai %Te 3,83854 dan sunblock dengan nilai %Tp 2,703703 sedangkan nilai SPF 74,4323 yang memberikan efek proteksi ultra. Kata kunci: Ekstrak, Mahkota Dewa, Kencur, Emulgator, Tabir surya.

Abstract

Buni is a plant that is widespread in Asia, especially Indonesia. Buni fruit has been reported to contain anthocyanins which have activity as flavonoids, antiocyanins, saponins, alkaloids and as high antioxidant agents, but because Buni fruit is seasonal so raw materials depend on the season, therefore to increase availability it needs to be extracted and formulated in a form preparations. The purpose of this study was to obtain an instant granule formula that meets the physical characteristics and to determine the IC50 value of the antioxidant activity of the instant granule preparation of buni fruit extract (Antidesma bunius L.). The extract was prepared by extraction method using 70% ethanol solvent with the addition of 3% citric acid for 3x24 hours. Instant granules were prepared using the wet granulation method using varying concentrations of PVP as a binder, namely 1%, 3% and 5%. Furthermore, the physical characteristics were evaluated including flow properties, moisture content, soluble time, then antioxidant activity was determined based on the IC50 value using the DPPH method. The results showed that F1 and F2 had good flow properties and F3 had very good flow properties, the moisture content was around 2-4% and the dissolution time was 2-3 minutes. Based on the test results obtained formula 3 with a PVP concentration of 5% is a formula that meets the physical requirements of granules and an IC50 value of 65.94 µg/mL is included in the strong antioxidant category.

Abstract

The demand for natural ingredients in cosmetic and medical applications is steadily increasing, particularly for anti-aging and skin-lightening products. Sterculia populifolia DC, a member of the Sterculia genus, is known to contain diverse bioactive compounds such as flavonoids, phenolics, and terpenoids, which may offer pharmacological benefits. The aim of this study was to evaluate the anti-aging potential of S. populifolia stem bark extract and its solvent-partitioned fractions through enzyme inhibition assays coupled with phytochemical profiling. The stem bark was extracted using 96% ethanol via maceration, followed by sequential liquid-liquid partitioning with n-hexane, ethyl acetate, n-butanol, and water. Phytochemical constituents were characterized using liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). The inhibitory activities of the extract and fractions against tyrosinase and elastase enzymes were evaluated using spectrophotometric assays, with kojic acid and quercetin as positive controls, respectively. IC₅₀ values were calculated to quantify enzyme inhibition potency. LC-MS/MS analysis revealed key bioactive compounds, including 4-[(E)-(3,5-diamino-1H-pyrazol-4-yl)diazenyl]phenol, isofraxidin, and (22E)-ergosta-4,6,8(14),22-tetraen-3-one. Among the tested samples, the ethanol extract exhibited the most potent activity, with an IC₅₀ of 93.35 µg/mL for elastase inhibition and 133.15 µg/mL for tyrosinase inhibition—classified as strong and moderate activity, respectively. Collectively, these findings demonstrate that S. populifolia stem bark extract possesses promising anti-aging and depigmenting properties, supporting its potential development as a natural bioactive ingredient in cosmetic and skincare formulations.
