Abstract

Nutrition in pregnancy is needed for fetal growth and development. Insufficient nutrition has the risk of causing Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED). The CED rate among pregnant women in Indonesia is 17.3% and in Lampung Province it is 13.6%. Nutritional status is influenced by nutritional intake and helminthiasis infection. Apart from that, there are other factors such as social determinants of health, namely economics, education, employment and age. This research uses a cross-sectional research design. The research sample was 86 pregnant women. Data collection was carried out using a questionnaire, measurement of Upper Arm Circumference (MUAC), and examination of feces using the formol ether sedimentation method. Bivariate analysis used chi square, Fisher, and Mann Whitney. The results of the study showed that there was a significant relationship between helminthiasis (p = 0.009), education (p = 0.023), and per capita income (p < 0.001) with the nutritional status of pregnant women. Meanwhile, for other variables (knowledge about helminthiasis, preventive behavior, age, and occupation) there was no significant relationship (p > 0.05). Helminthiasis is related to the nutritional status of pregnant women, so active screening is needed for the incidence of helminthiasis in pregnant women in the working area of the Karang Anyar Community Health Center, Jati Agung District, South Lampung Regency.

Abstract

Background: The Annual Parasite Incidence (API) malaria 2014 in Hanura Public Health Center, Pesawaran Regency was 48,75‰ which is classified as high endemisity meanwhile API malaria in Rajabasa Indah Public Health Center, Bandar Lampung City was 0,00‰ which is classified as non-endemic. Malaria in pregnant women can directly causes anemia maternal because of the destruction of erythrocytes that contain parasites and which are not, reduction of survival time, and dyseritropoiesis. The highest prevalence of anemia materna in Sumatra is Lampung Province with 25,9%. The aim: aim of this study is to differ mean hemoglobin level of pregnant women in endemic and non-endemic malaria in 2016. The method: Method which used in this study is an comparative with cross-sectional which included 104 pregnant women in Hanura and Rajabasa Indah Public Health Center in 2016. This study uses primary data which taken from pregnant women‘s peripheral blood. Research findings: Results of the study showed pregnant women with low hemoglobin level are more happening in endemic malaria with 67,3% women than in non-endemic malaria with 34,6% women. The result with Mann-Whitney test shows there has diverication between mean haemoglobin level of pregnant women (p=0,014) who are living in endemic and non-endemic malaria. The conclusion: Shows a diverication of mean hemoglobin levels of pregnant women in endemic and non-endemic malaria in Lampung Province.

Abstract

Land cover change is one of the major contributors to environmental degradation and can significantly alter the physical environment. These alterations in the physical environment may have substantial implications for human health. One of the notable health impacts associated with such changes is the increased incidence of tuberculosis. Tuberculosis cases are linked to the proliferation of Mycobacterium tuberculosis, which thrives in environments with high humidity levels. This study employs linear regression analysis to examine the influence of various types of land cover—namely, plantation areas, mixed agriculture, residential zones, and rice fields—on tuberculosis incidence. Additionally, the study incorporates Human Development Index (HDI) and economic growth rate as proxies for human development in Lampung Province. The findings, based on t-test statistical analysis, reveal that plantation land cover (P-value = 0.045) and the rate of economic growth (P-value = 0.001) have a statistically significant effect on tuberculosis incidence in the region. In contrast, other land use types and the Human Development Index do not exhibit a significant relationship with the number of tuberculosis cases. Based on these results, it is recommended that the government formulate credible and evidence-based regulations concerning future land use planning.

Abstract

Intestinal parasitic infections remain a health problem in communities. Surveys of intestinal protozoan infections in Lampung Province are limited. The transmission of intestinal protozoan infections is generally through the oro-faecal route, which is related to environmental and behavioral factors. Farmers are one of the communities that are potentially infected. Gisting Sub District is one of the agricultural centers in Lampung Province. Farmers' contact with the environment will increase the risk of intestinal protozoan infection. This study aims to determine the Species of intestinal parasites found in farming communities. The design of this study is a descriptive observational survey. Feces collected were examined for parasitological examination at the Parasitology Laboratory, Faculty of Medicine, University of Indonesia. The results showed, the prevalence is 9.33%, consisting of Blastocystis sp. protozoa (6.67%), Entamoeba histolytica/dispar protozoa (1.33%), and a mixture of Blastocystis sp. and Endolimax nana (1.33%) among the research subjects.
