Abstract

Abstract

Community service activities at the Integrated Service Post for Teenage Girls in Tabukan Raya Village, Tabukan Subdistrict, involved 10 cadres and 17 teenage girls. The event was opened by the Head of Village together with the managing midwife, village midwife, Family Empowerment and Welfare Organization, and cadres from the Integrated Service Post. The cadre training was conducted with pre-tests and post-tests to assess knowledge about adolescent girls' health, particularly the prevention of anemia, stunting, balanced nutrition, and healthy eating patterns. The results showed an increase in the cadres' knowledge about the risk factors for stunting, anemia, consumption of iron tablets, and nutritious foods. Knowledge plays a vital role in shaping health behavior (Lawrence Green's concept), and education is an effective strategy for changing the knowledge, attitudes, and behavior of adolescents. After the education, all cadres had good knowledge. The cadres are expected to be able to become health promotion agents and sources of information for their peers. The results of the adolescent girls' examination showed that there were still 12% with anemia, 47% underweight, 18% with chronic energy deficiency, and 35% short. Adolescence is a second window of opportunity to improve nutrition, as growth occurs rapidly. Anemia is a risk factor for stunting in early adolescent girls, so preventing anemia plays an important role in reducing stunting. Thus, empowering youth integrated service post cadres is a strategic alternative solution in improving adolescent health, especially in preventing stunting, as well as optimizing adolescent reproductive health.

Abstract

Management of diabetic wounds is crucial to prevent severe complications including the potential of amputation. The conventional treatments often involve antibiotics as resistance frequently arises. Tapak liman (Elephantopus scaber L.) leaf extract, as an antibacterial agent, could be an alternative for treating diabetic wounds. For practical application, the extract is formulated into a gel. The objective of this study is to determine the concentration of the gelling agent HPMC and the humectant propylene glycol that can create the gel optimal formula, meeting the criteria for favorable physical properties. The study commences with the identification and phytochemical screening of tapak liman leaves extract. Subsequently, the extract was formulated in the forms of gels with concentrations of HPMC and propylene glycol. The evaluation included the testing of organoleptic, viscosity, pH, spreadability, and adhesiveness. Data is then subjected to analysis, beginning with normality tests followed by One-way ANOVA, in order to achieve the gel formula exhibiting the most favorable physical properties. This study reveal the following physical properties for F1, F2, and F3, respectively: pH values of 5.86 ± 0.257; 5.60 ± 0.068; and 5.53 ± 0.075, viscosities of 149.4233 ± 42.71002; 1,203.44 ± 154.1854; and 2,283.10 ± 530.2867 (cps), spreadability of 41.365 ± 0.47; 23.225 ± 0.64; and 18.805 ± 0.26 (g.cm/second), as well as adhesiveness of 1.59 ± 0.57; 2.08 ± 0.51; and 7.77 ± 1.14 (seconds). Based on the results above, it can be concluded that F3, with HPMC and propylene glycol concentrations of 3% and 14%, represents the optimal formula, demonstrating the best physical properties for a gel.

Abstract

Wasting is a problem of acute malnutrition that affects growth, development, and increases the risk of morbidity and mortality in toddlers. The prevalence of wasting in the working area of the East Martapura Health Center is 21.4%, higher than the national average. This study aims to determine the relationship between birth weight history, breastfeeding, and infectious diseases in wasting toddlers aged 12-59 months in the working area of the East Martapura Health Center. This type of research is observational analytic with a case control approach. A sample of 96 toddlers consisting of 48 wasting toddlers (cases) and 48 non-wasting toddlers (controls) were taken using cluster random sampling. Data were collected through interviews, anthropometric measurements, and KMS/KIA documentation. Data analysis used the Chi-Square test. The results of the univariate analysis showed that toddlers with a history of LBW were 27%, did not receive exclusive breastfeeding 69.7%, and had a history of infectious diseases 75%. The results of the bivariate analysis showed a significant relationship between birth weight history and wasting (p=0.000; OR=6.689), breastfeeding with wasting (p=0.001; OR=4.956), and infectious diseases with wasting (p=0.018; OR=3.212). Toddlers with a history of LBW, not receiving exclusive breastfeeding, and having a history of infectious diseases have a higher risk of wasting. It is recommended that health centers improve education about exclusive breastfeeding and preventing infectious diseases in toddlers
