Abstract

Early dental treatment on caries lesions of primary tooth is important as an attempt to maintain child’s oral health. But until recently the prevalence of dental caries among children still show a pretty high number. One reason for this is because it is still a lack of knowledge of dental health maintenance at home and also the presence of fear or anxiety towards dental treatments. Motivate a child to get the dental treatment requires efforts that can reduce the fear or increase the child’s interest in dental treatment. One of these efforts is to use a colored filling material. Children’s involvement in choosing the desired color can make dental filling as an exciting procedure without reducing the effectiveness of the treatment. This paper will discuss about the compomer as a filling material, which available in several color options.

Abstract

ABSTRACTIntroduction: Stunting is one of the growth and development problems that causes a child's body to become shorter or very short in accordance with his/her age and exceeds the Standard Deviation (SD) set by the World Health Organization (WHO), namely < -2 SD. The condition of stunting also inhibits the development of the oral cavity which causes children suffering from stunting to be more susceptible to caries. Caries experienced by children will have a negative impact on a child's daily life and can affect the quality of his/her life. This research aimed to analyze the relationship between caries status of a child with stunting and his quality of life. Methods: The type of research used was a quantitative the descriptive research with correlational research method using correlational survey method with questionnaires conducted in Ciapus Village, Banjaran District, Bandung Regency. Samples were taken using purposive sampling technique with a sample size of 60 people. The time range used in this research was December 2023 – January 2024. The questionnaire used was The Early Childhood Oral Health Questionnaire. The Impact Scale (ECOHIS) was used to measure quality of life and the def-t index was used to measure the child's caries status. Results: The def-t index of stunted children in Ciapus Village was 6.46 which was considered as high in the category. Total percentage of ECOHIS questionnaire answers showed a value of 46.41% and was in the category of quite impactful. The results of the Spearman rank correlation calculation = 0.475, which meant that there was a fairly significant relationship. Conclusion: There is a weak relationship between oral health related quality of life and caries conditions in the oral cavity of stunted children, because poor quality of the child's oral cavity does not have a direct impact on the occurrence of caries.KEYWORDS: stunting, caries, children's quality of life, children's oral healthHubungan Oral Health Related Quality of Life dengan Karies pada Anak Stunting: studi deskriptif ABSTRAKPendahuluan: Stunting adalah salah satu permasalahan tumbuh kembang yang menyebabkan tubuh anak menjadi lebih pendek atau sangat pendek tidak sesuai dengan usia nya dan melewati Standar Deviasi (SD) yang ditetapkan World Health Organization (WHO) yaitu < -2 SD. Abstract

Background: Adolescents are considered good cadres to be able to socialize with this healthy dental behavior. Therefore, designing a dental health education program is necessary to prepare adolescents to socialize with dental health behavior. Purpose: This study evaluates the pilot training for trainers using persuasive communication to socialize dental health behavior. Methods: Thirty-five participants (13-16 years old) are trained by a persuasive communication coach and practice the skills with a simulated client”this one-day training has a two-phase structure; lectures and practicum. The evaluation is done through three out of four-level methods from Kirkpatrick (1959). The data analysis used for the reaction evaluation is descriptive statistics, calculating the average score per category of training support assessment items (curriculum, facilitator, accommodation, and overall score). The learning outcome analysis resulted from an analysis of the pre-post test results using the N-Gain value and paired T-test. Behavior outcomes were also analyzed descriptively by calculating the average score of all participants in every timeline (baseline and two weeks after the training). Results: evaluation of this training revealed that "reaction” has an average total score was 4.02, which shows that the participants were satisfied with the training, "learning” has an N-Gain acquisition of 48.28%, and "behavior” level shows a good outcome as an increased in points from 3.4 to 4.2. Conclusion: The training program produced thirty cadres ready to implement the program in the community.

Abstract

Dental caries is a common oral disease in children, influenced by environmental, psychological, behavioral, and biological factors. The American academy of pediatric dentistry recommends screening from the time the first tooth erupts or at one year of age to prevent caries, which mostly affects children from racial and ethnic minorities. In Indonesia, the 2023 health survey reported a caries prevalence of 84.8% in children aged 5-9 years. This research introduces early caries detection using three deep learning models: faster-RCNN, you only look once (YOLO) V8, and detection transformer (DETR), using Indonesian dental caries characteristic datasets (IDCCD) focused on Indonesian data with international caries detection and assessment system (ICDAS) classification D0 to D6. The results showed that YOLO V8-s and DETR gave good results, with mean average precision (mAP) of 41.8% and 41.3% for intersection over union (IoU) 50, and 24.3% and 26.2% for IoU 50:90. Precision-recall (PR) curves show that both models have high precision at low recall (0 to 0.2), but precision decreases sharply as recall increases. YOLO V8-s showed a slower and more regular decrease in precision, indicating a more stable performance compared to DETR.
