Abstract

The old town of Ampenan is a strategic area. This can be seen from the point of view of socio-cultural interests where this area has become a cultural heritage of Mataram City based on the Building and Environmental Planning (RTBL). And this is in accordance with the Regional Long and Medium Term Development Plan (RPJMD) of Mataram City, namely in 2016-2021 regarding Ampenan Old Town which has historical values, preservation of local customs and culture which is one of the identities of the local community's local wisdom. This research aims to explore the history and social dynamics of the Bugis community who settled in the Old Town of Ampenan Mataram. The approach used in this research is through a socio-historical study approach, meaning that data collected through interviews, observations, and literature studies to produce an in-depth understanding of the adaptation and contribution of the Bugis community to city life. Based on the results of observations and interviews that have been conducted, it can be formulated the problem studied, namely exploring the development of the Bugis community in the context of urban history, social transformation, and interaction with the surrounding community.

Abstract

This ethnographic study delves into the Mbelu’ Pandang tradition, a unique cultural practice held in Labuan Kertasari Village, West Sumbawa, Indonesia. This tradition, which originated from the Selayar tribe, involves intricate rituals such as the rolling of pandan leaves and the slicing of pandanus, performed during the commemoration of the Prophet Muhammad’s birthday. The study aimed to explore the historical roots, philosophical meanings, and contemporary significance of the Mbelu’ Pandang tradition, emphasizing its socio-cultural and religious values. Data was collected over three months using participant observation, in-depth interviews with 13 key informants, including village elders, religious, and community leaders, and qualitative content analysis was employed to interpret the findings. Results indicate that the tradition serves multiple functions: fostering community cohesion, acting as a conduit for religious expression, and reinforcing cultural identity among the villagers. It also highlights the efforts to preserve this tradition through local festivals and community-based initiatives, which sustain cultural heritage and promote regional tourism. The study contributes to understanding the dynamics of cultural preservation within minority tribes and offers insights into the complex interplay between tradition, religion, and modernity in rural Indonesia.

Abstract

This community service activity was motivated by the low reading literacy culture at Madrasah Aliyah NW Suwangi, as evidenced by the lack of reading facilities and the absence of regular reading activities. A literacy corner is considered an effective approach to increase reading interest if implemented in a participatory manner. This activity applies a collaborative-participatory approach based on service learning in the context of Participatory Action Research (PAR), involving PLP2/KKN students as facilitators, teachers as supporters, and students as the main focus. Information was collected through participatory observation, semi-structured interviews, focus group discussions (FGD), and documentation, then analyzed using descriptive qualitative methods. The data showed a significant increase in students' reading literacy, as evidenced by increased visits to the literacy corner, reading time, and active participation in literacy discussions. Thus, the literacy corner program in the context of PLP2 integrated with KKN Education has proven successful in improving literacy culture in secondary schools, although the sustainability of the program requires strengthening cooperation between teachers, students, and the school.

Abstract

ABSTRAK                                                                            Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk menanamkan dan memperkuat nilai-nilai kebangsaan pada generasi muda melalui edukasi sejarah di MTs dan MA Darul Mujahidin NW Suwangi. Program ini dilatarbelakangi oleh melemahnya semangat nasionalisme di kalangan siswa akibat pengaruh globalisasi, perkembangan media digital, serta rendahnya pemahaman terhadap sejarah perjuangan bangsa. Metode pelaksanaan menggunakan pendekatan partisipatif yang dilaksanakan melalui empat tahapan kegiatan, yaitu diskusi tematik, pemutaran film sejarah, permainan edukatif, dan kunjungan ke tempat bersejarah. Evaluasi kegiatan dilakukan menggunakan angket sikap nasionalisme, lembar observasi partisipasi siswa, refleksi tertulis, serta pre-test dan post-test untuk mengukur pemahaman sejarah. Hasil evaluasi menunjukkan adanya peningkatan skor rata-rata pemahaman sejarah siswa dari 61,4 pada pre-test menjadi 82,7 pada post-test, dengan persentase peningkatan sebesar 34,7%. Selain itu, hasil observasi menunjukkan peningkatan partisipasi aktif siswa dari kategori sedang menjadi tinggi, serta penguatan sikap nasionalisme berdasarkan angket dan refleksi tertulis siswa. Kegiatan ini juga memperkuat kerja sama antara perguruan tinggi dan lembaga pendidikan Islam dalam mendukung pelaksanaan Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi. Edukasi sejarah terbukti efektif sebagai sarana pembentukan karakter generasi muda yang beridentitas nasional, religius, dan berwawasan sejarah. Kegiatan ini diharapkan dapat dikembangkan secara berkelanjutan di berbagai lembaga pendidikan untuk memperkuat karakter kebangsaan di tengah tantangan era digital. Kata kunci: Nilai kebangsaan, Edukasi sejarah, Generasi muda, Madrasah, Nasionalisme. ABSTRACTThis community service activity aims to instill and strengthen national values in the younger generation through historical education at MTs and MA Darul Mujahidin NW Suwangi. This program was motivated by the weakening spirit of nationalism among students due to the influence of globalization, the development of digital media, and a low understanding of the nation's history. The implementation method uses a participatory approach carried out through four stages of activities, namely thematic discussions, historical film screenings, educational games, and visits to historical sites. The evaluation of activities was carried out using a nationalism attitude questionnaire, student participation observation sheets, written reflections, as well as pre-tests and post-tests to measure historical understanding. The evaluation results showed an increase in the average score of students' historical understanding from 61.4 on the pre-test to 82.7 on the post-test, with an increase of 34.7%. In addition, the observation results showed an increase in student active participation from moderate to high, as well as a strengthening of nationalism based on student questionnaires and written reflections. This activity also strengthened cooperation between universities and Islamic educational institutions in supporting the implementation of the Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi (Three Pillars of Higher Education). History education has proven to be effective as a means of shaping the character of the younger generation with a national identity, religious values, and historical insight. Abstract

Purpose-This article analyzes the role of Citizenship Education in shaping intelligent, responsible, and nationally committed citizens. It examines how Civics develops civic literacy, strengthens awareness of rights and obligations, and embeds Pancasila values as the moral foundation for constructive participation in society. Research Methodology/Design/Approach- literature review was conducted by examining scholarly articles, books, curriculum documents, and official publications related to Citizenship Education and character development. This approach enabled a focused synthesis of key concepts, learning objectives, and pedagogical challenges within Civics instruction. Findings-The study finds that Citizenship Education significantly contributes to developing civic knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors aligned with democratic and national values. However, its implementation is often limited by insufficient teacher competence, lack of contextual and innovative teaching methods, and weak integration of Pancasila values into classroom practices. Strengthening teacher roles as facilitators and role models is essential to enhance the effectiveness of Civics learning. Originality/Value-This article provides a concise conceptual understanding of how Citizenship Education can be optimized to foster a generation with strong civic responsibility and national identity, offering insights for improving pedagogical practice and curriculum development.
